I placed on TOP of freezer in such a way that my fingers have to curve over the top part to unlock the hinge. I believe it's the same way that this photo shows. I used it for an unconventional thing: making sure the fridge stay shut and sealed. I have a fridge that stopped being made and the seal in one corner was a bit indented, so there was a slight gap and that made the freezer part start collecting ice. With this, I was able to make sure that part stays sealed real shut and ice doesn't seem to be forming now. It has a tight grip so it doesn't open at all even with a good tug.

I was worried when I bought it because the pictures did not really show me what it was. I was worried it would not be what we needed. Fast forward. I love it. It is easy to use. Easy to install and easy to lock up. If you do not want to baby proof just push the buttons in and it unlocks for you. It is small and fits the fridge nicely. My son has some muscle behind him for a little guy and the durability of this little product is amazing! It has not given away to his constant pulls and tugs. Overall the product is great and worth it to get. I would recommend again and again.
