The hatchet itself is very well made, with good steel in the head, but I wish it came with a sheath I could feel comfortable carrying it on my belt. The hatchet matches the description, and good sheaths for it are easy to find, I just wish it came with one made for it. Maybe it was an option I didn't see, but IMO that was the only thing lacking. Even in a pack, it should have a good sheath to protect whatever it is packed with, because if you want to, you can really get it sharp. The rear head of the axe is too wide and keeps getting stuck and twisting in medium sized logs that need a second hit. It’s really only good for making small kindling smaller

I own probably 12+ Estwing hammers, from engineer's to masonry to deadblow to framers to tack to, you get the idea. Huge Estwing fan. This thing is fine, for a cheap crappy hatchet, but the quality is not what I want in an Estwing tool.

So, this is not US made old Estwing quality. Made in India. Poor quality control. I understand that for this price I can not get US made tool but I wait from manufacturer the same quality control. Sad...... Have to return.

Wanted a little hatchet to keep near the log splitter for those stringy pieces. Perfect size, handy. Sharp enough right out of the box. Price was right and looks to be of pretty good quality. Good balance.
