My skin is a veritable oil slick. If human oiliness could power cars or lubricate squeaky hinges, I honestly think I could supply enough for the entire world. Because of this, I am always on the lookout for a decent primer. And this one delivers. I use the essence Jelly Grip Hydrating Primer in tandem with a mattifying primer, and together they do a great job of holding my makeup in place. I haven't tried this one by itself, so I can't really speak to how well it controls oil on its own. Honestly, though, I bought it primarily because I wanted something that would grip my makeup and keep it from wandering off halfway through the day. It feels really cooling when you apply it, which is a nice bonus, and it doesn't smell horrendous like some primers I've encountered. I also feel like it makes my skin feel a little tighter and seems to blur my pores somewhat. Even better, I've noticed fewer breakouts since using it. I've been pairing it with MAC foundation, and so far, so good. My makeup blends easily over it, whether I'm applying foundation or concealer. I've also started dabbing a tiny bit on my eyelids over my regular eyeshadow primer, and that has been a pleasant surprise. My eyeshadow really grips, stays where I put it, and I've noticed less fallout ending up underneath my eyes. Because apparently my face was not already producing enough drama on its own. Overall, I have been really happy with this primer. It grips my makeup, feels nice going on, blends beautifully with everything I've put over it, and doesn't smell like a chemical accident. For someone whose face apparently believes it is an offshore drilling operation, that's a win.

This is a great product and I highly recommend it. However, I am unsure as to why mine was sent without it's cap.. My skin doesn't break out with this formula and my makeup stays put very nicely throughout the day. The gel is nice and light and has a nice feeling on the skin. Very refreshing to use. I feel like this product will work nicely over this summer!

For the price, this is such an amazing makeup primer! I especially love using it during the winter when my skin gets really dry and foundation can start looking flaky or uneven. This primer makes such a difference — my makeup applies much more smoothly and my skin feels hydrated underneath. I also use it during the summer, so it has definitely become a year-round product for me. I actually use it as my makeup base instead of a moisturizer, and it works perfectly for my skin. Such a great affordable product and honestly one of my favorites from Essence. Definitely recommend!

This is the best primer I’ve ever used for a really great price. It’s very hydrating and keeps that makeup in place. Purchasing my second one now. It lasted me 3 months. I only wear makeup once a week.

It’s affordable, and it is such a clean makeup product to use! It smells fresh, almost soapy clean, it’s lightly hydrating, meaning it plumps the skin and primes it for makeup without making it oily. It is amazing how it grips the product. I use it under foundation, even under tinted moisturizer and it grips the same. Works very well with powders as well. I find myself using two pumps an application for coverage of my face and neck. It’s wonderful! Selfie is to showcase the makeup after 5 hrs of wear/ no touch up, no filter. It works on filling pores ❤️❤️❤️
