Animals are great. Little booklet about each one complex enough for older children and easy to simplify for younger children. It’s hard to imagine getting too many years from the doors, but are easy to open (probably too easy for any longevity). This calendar is amazingly cute and well thought out. The box stands and the fold out front makes for an engaging play mat for all of the animals. The wooden figures are sanded smooth and painted beautifully. They are all different sizes and shapes, while each is thick enough to stand without falling over. Each day you open the box to remove the figure and read the days chapter from the adorable story. At the end of each chapter it has you search the box picture to answer a simple question. The stories are engaging and sweet. On day 16 you open Heiko the rabbit who is looking for his friend Hannes (you opened Hannes on day 13). Advent calendars have been a part of my family for as long as I can remember. I did them with my own children until they each went off to college. I love giving Advent calendars to my grandchildren every Christmas. It helps with their Christmas anticipation. For the younger grands, this is the perfect calendar! The little doors open up to reveal the cutest little wooden animals! After opening each door, there is a page in the included story book to read about all the animals! The wooden animals are fun to play with and brightly decorated. You can keep them for every day play, or replace them back into the calender for the next year. This seemed perfect for a 1 year old. Cute and colorful animals, no chocking hazard. A story to share each night. Unfortunately, the pieces corresponding to each story are not behind the correct date. It’s all out of order. Also, the crow (the main character) is painted upside down.
