This is ok as a beginner's kit or a kid's play kit. Note that I had to sand it as the wood was rough and splinters were all over. I then stained it. The palette had paint stains on back and the knives set packing was open. That being said, it has 6 flat canvas 2 of each size. The paint set is nice with variety of colors. Colors are not bright. The paint brushes are dollar quality, but do the job. The palette knives have a good size variation. Quality ok for the price. I would suggest you inspect before gifting.
