  • great alternative to the Apple keyboard
Size: iPad Pro12.9 Color: Black
I’ve been using this for several months now, and I can definitely say that I am very pleased with this. I love so much about this. My first keyboard was the official Apple version, which was extremely expensive. However, I did like it and its functionality so I was very skeptical about getting an offbrand keyboard. Overall, I would almost call this keyboard and upgrade over the Apple model with the exception of one or two details. First, the pros. This keyboard lights up! I absolutely love that there is an additional role button specifically for functions like playing or pausing music, adjusting the volume or the brightness as well as turning on the microphone. If I went back to my Apple keyboard, I would be missing these features considerably. I also love that I can choose which color to have the keyboard be I wish my eyes could handle the different colors better (I suffered a concussion couple years ago and have not been able to handle certain LED colors since but that’s on me). I also love the fact that there is an additional case that the iPad sits into. It gives me that peace of mind that my iPad is protected even when I disconnect it from the keyboard. The other super bonus, is the fact that I can turn the iPad into the portrait position and still be able to type. That feature alone, was a big selling point for me since one of the apps that I have to use for my business, only comes in portrait mode, and having to type those interactions on my phone before I got this keyboard was an absolute pain. Knowing that I can do that with this keyboard is such a thrill. you have a positive selling point for me was the fact that there is magnetic eye pencil shield that protects my pencil from being knocked off. Before I had to keep my pencil in my purse away from my iPad, which meant that it was never charged when I needed it. Thanks to this case, I can keep my iPencil on the case all the time and rest assured that it is always charged and where I need it. Now for the cons. The back of the attaches to the iPad is not as sturdy as the Apple model. It did take me a while to get used to that and to stop worrying about it, but now that I have gotten used to it and used it for several months without any issues with it, dropping my iPad or things like that, I can definitely say that while it isn’t as sturdy as the Apple model, it is more than sufficient. One other nitpick is the connectability. It connects decently enough via bluetooth, but I do have to tap my keyboard and wait a few seconds while it wakes up and connects. After having the Apple keyboard working instantly, it did take a while to get used to this. However, it does always connect, and I don’t have any issues with it. it never disconnects itself, unless I have left it alone for a while, and at that point, I’m glad it shut itself off because it’s saving the battery. Speaking of which, that is one other downside. I really miss how the Apple model would charge through the iPad itself with this model. I have to plug it in every week or so, but it does give me a warning when it’s getting low and it doesn’t take too long to charge. I’ve also found that I can see it’s battery level on the homepage if I put the battery widget on the homepage of my iPad. Overall, would I buy this keyboard again? Absolutely. Especially for the price. Its features outweigh the Apple keyboard, even if there are other features that it does not have the Apple keyboard specialized in. I’d say it was a good trade off. ... show more

  • This is a very versatile iPad case with a keyboard
Size: iPad Pro12.9 Color: Black
This case offers great protection for the iPad and the magnet which holds the ipad case to the keyboard structure is very strong and secure. Pros: 1) The case allows the iPad pen to stay in place to remain charged when not in use, and the case itself has a flap which securely fastens magnetically over the pen to keep it safely in place when the case is closed. 2) The keyboard is excellent to type on and the backlights make it easy to use in dimly-lit places. 3) the ipad is held in its own case which can be pulled away from the magnet back of the keyboard case for those times when you want to use it as a handheld tablet. 4) since the ipad case itself can be removed, it can also be rotated so that you can type on it in portrait mode as well as landscape mode. Cons: 1) it is kind of heavy, so it's not ideal when you're trying to keep the weight of what you carry to a minimum 2) when the ipad is rotated to portrait mode if you don't place it properly it's hard to reach the top row of keys. ... show more

  • Great typing experience and protection for a 12.9" iPad Pro
Size: iPad Pro12.9 Color: Black
This is a great case. Typing experience is really nice - like an old laptop full-size key experience. I have an iPad AIr 4th Gen with Apple's Magic Keyboard and this case is 95% of that experience...plus the iPad (I bought the 12.9" version of this keyboard case for an M1 Pro 12.9") is protected, unlike with the Magic Keyboard. Only ding is that the hinge, while stable (device is great on your lap or on unstable surfaces), isn't smoothly adjustable. It kind of flops between two places. The upside is, unlike Apple's case, you can actually place the iPad higher on the magnet OR in landscape. So it isn't a functional complaint, really, but more of a smooth usability issue. The trackpad works very well although it's weird being back to a physical click vs. haptic. The case wraps around the pencil, if you have one. Unlike a lot of cases, the little strap is generous and fits over a pencil with a silicon case on it - which is nice. The case into which you place your iPad, however, does not support charging of a pencil with a case. I have another EST case with the same design (no keyboard) with the same issue. It's a shame - they could easily include a cutout to allow the pencil to sit against the iPad's metal frame to assure charge. I've just cut away the plastic on both cases across the charging area. It was easy to do, does not mess with the case's structural integrity, and isn't noticable. Case is heavy, with an iPad 12.9" M1, but I'm not using the device as a portable device and so it's nice to be able to quickly move from keyboard to standalone iPad without wrestling with a case OR leaving your iPad naked and vulernable. Can't have nake iPad Pros! Nice work ESR. ... show more

  • Versatile, works great. Excellent iPad accessory
Size: iPad Pro12.9 Color: Black
After receiving this case and using it for a few days, I have to think hard about which I like better: this case or the Apple Magic Keyboard case. My 3rd generation iPad Pro 12.9” was acting strange with the Apple case, so I replaced it with this case. With this one being able to be placed either landscape or portrait, which the Apple case couldn’t do, that makes it much more convenient to use apps that are made for portrait. The keyboard has a great feel for me, but I realize that’s a personal preference thing. The Apple keyboard would turn on when opening the case; this case has a power switch, which I prefer. The Apple keyboard had a port for charging the attached iPad, which I don’t really see as a big advantage, because when the iPad was in the case, it was easy enough to charge the iPad through its own charging port. This case has a charging port; the case doesn’t charge the iPad, and the iPad doesn’t charge the case. Not the slightest problem. This case has a separate removable protective case that helps protect the iPad when you remove it from the keyboard case. The iPad will work in the keyboard case with or without the protective cover on the iPad. The Apple case didn’t have this, so when I was removing the iPad from the keyboard case, I was handling a bare, unprotected iPad. The cantilever action is stiff enough to not move on its own, but easy enough to move when you have to. But one of the best things about this case isn’t part of the case at all. It’s the fabulous customer service by ESR. They were prompt and more than helpful when I bought an iPad screen protector a while ago. When I got this case, I wrote to them with what I thought was an issue with the case. They responded very quickly with a suggestion and helpful information. As it turns out, the issue is with the iPad, not the case. But they were eager to help, and I don’t have to remind anybody that that’s something becoming more and more rare. I’m very happy with this case, more so than I was with the Apple case. And at a significantly lower price. ... show more

  • Heavy but solid Heavy but solid
Size: iPad Pro12.9 Color: Black
If you need a Magic Keyboard at a better price, this is the way to do it. It comes with a case so you can remove it easily then it sticks with strong magnets in either the portrait OR the landscape position which is something a lot of keyboard cases do not do. Very solid and well built. The keyboard is pleasing to the touch and types very well. Once your iPad is in, it is secure and well protected. Be warned, it is heavier and thicker than other cases out there. That doesn’t bother me particularly but you may feel differently. A quality and functional case. ... show more

  • A fantastic keyboard case at an equally fantastic price A fantastic keyboard case at an equally fantastic price
Size: iPad Pro12.9 Color: Black
The summary of this review can be found in the title: this is a great keyboard case! Let me walk you through my experience: I’d been in the market for a keyboard case, but wasn’t crazy about the price of the Apple Magic Keyboard Folio Case thingy. My son has one for his 12.9” iPad Pro, but I was willing to do without due to the cost. Having purchased (and been very happy with) ESR gear in the past, I saw an advertisement for this and wanted to give it a try. At best, I’d have found an amazing product; at worse, I could find someone to pawn it off on…er, purchase it from me. So the order was placed, and it arrived quickly. Upon opening the Amazon packaging, I found a very professional-looking ESR packaging which was easy to open and had clear instructions on how to do a quick set-up, along with a QR code for further information and such (see photos above). The case was quite sturdy and well-built upon first glance. The iPad device-specific portion of the “case” felt nice, though it’s more or less just the means to holding the iPad to the keyboard. If you’re looking for a more protective case, sans keyboard, I encourage you to check out some of ESR’s other fantastic products. Anyway, my iPad went very easily into the shell. There are kind of three ways you can use this: portrait-style, landscape style 1 (where you just open the device and go), or landscape style 2 (where you lift or slide the iPad up an inch or two to allow for a little different placement and angle; I prefer this way myself). The magnets hold the iPad incredibly well, and the hinge of the keyboard is very sturdy. Do be aware that this is a chonky piece of kit, so it’s going to add some bulk as well as considerable heft. In fact, the keyboard and iPad together weigh probably as much or just a smidgen more than my MacBook Air M2, and is thicker. However, if you’re looking to consolidate or just want to have laptop-type features with your iPad, then these things can be easily handled. But allow me to say that the MAGNETIC FLAP that helps hold the case closed (doesn’t really need it but it’s a great touch!) also holds the Apple Pencil securely! This feature alone was enough to tempt my son to ditch his Apple Magic Keyboard Case because his pencil is constantly falling off due to not having a secure way to hold it! Almost worth the price itself just for that! Connection is via Bluetooth and was very fast in connecting to the iPad. The battery came in at 96% straight out of the box. The USB-C charging port is on the side of the keyboard. Something to note is that the keyboard does not charge the iPad while in the case. But as a quick test, I used a charging cable to connect the iPad to the keyboard port and found that the iPad began charging the keyboard. So, should you ever run low on juice in your keyboard, you can charge it from the iPad. Still, I suppose if you have a cable to charge the iPad, you kind of have a cable to charge the keyboard directly. At any rate, I enjoyed that little discovery. On the the keyboard itself. It feels great. The keys are really responsive and have just the right amount of that satisfying resistance. It’s quiet when you use it, perhaps just ever-so-slightly louder than my MacBook Air keyboard, but with comparable feel. The backlights for the keyboard are a very nice touch. Light blue, dark blue, green, purple, magenta, red, orange, and white seem to round out the available colors, and there are four levels of brightness (including off entirely). All this can be changed by the touch of two buttons on the function row at the top of the keyboard. I wanted to specifically mention the touchpad. Due to the size of the keyboard itself being pretty much determined by the size of the iPad, the touchpad is somewhat small. I also find that it’s INCREDIBLY sensitive. Pressing the touchpad for mouse clicks makes a nice sound, but it’s very easy to push it more than you wanted or accidentally. Using the iPadOS multi-touch gestures is a little harder at times due to these issues (sensitivity and size) but it is responsive to be sure. It is possible to go into the iPad settings and adjust the scroll speed and such, but I use an external Apple Magic Trackpad which is much more suited to my workflows. Still, if you don’t want to carry another device, the touchpad on the keyboard will more than meet your needs. And as you can see in one of the accompanying photos, I used the keyboard to write my initial thoughts and it worked great. In the week I’ve had the device I’ve been very well pleased, and have written this review using the ESR keyboard. A Quick Summary: Pros - Feel/look, sturdiness, convenience, responsiveness, secure holding of Apple Pencil when it’s not being used, battery life, ease of setup and use, and GREAT PRICE! Cons - A bit heavy, sensitivity and size of the trackpad (but you quickly get accustomed to these things so they’re not problems at all). So basically, if you want a great keyboard that is great on battery, relatively inexpensive when compared to Apple-branded keyboards, sturdy, and gives your iPad the features of a laptop, do not sleep on this ESR Keyboard Case. You’ll be really glad you got it! And I will most definitely be recommending this to my friends and will be very willing to purchase more products from the ESR family! ... show more

Quickly became unusable. I purchased this in 2024 and within 3 months the keyboard stopped working. It still illuminates - but does not work. I am gathering items for an electronics recycling event and came across this product. I figured since it was still being sold, I would write a review. I tried the keyboard again a few times in the past week (expensive item to get little use out of) - still not working. Bummer because it was a great product until it wasn't! ... show more

  • When the reality is too low to justify even the lower price point, Major disappointment... When the reality is too low to justify even the lower price point, Major disappointment...
Size: iPad Pro12.9 Color: Black
I really wanted to like this keyboard case, but the biggest elephant in the room is impossible to ignore: the weight and thickness. It is extremely heavy and thick, even heavier than my MacBook Pro M1, and when you hold it, the bulk feels like carrying a notebook from the 90s. As you see from the picture, it is thicker than a pen and pencil stacked together, and that is no exaggeration. It is honestly shocking, and it becomes even more noticeable when paired with an iPad Pro 12.9. I thought I could get used to it, but two days in, I am already looking at alternatives and will likely go back to the Magic Keyboard. Bluetooth connection is fine with no lag, but if the iPad sits for a few hours, you have to tap and wait a few seconds for it to reconnect. Is it usable? Yes. Is it convenient? Not really. The hinge also feels flimsy, as if it is struggling to support the weight of the 12.9 inch iPad. Every time you touch the screen, the entire top portion shakes. The video clearly shows that even a simple tap makes the whole upper part wobble. The case that holds the iPad is not well built either. When opening it from the edge, the thin plastic around the cutouts such as the speaker area visibly moves. Overall, this was a major disappointment. I knew the lower price point meant I should lower my expectations, but when the reality is too low to justify even the lower price point, that becomes a real problem. ... show more
