  • Dependable quality.?
This soil can be used for any planting need. No odor, mold or bugs. It is a large bag but easy to carry for my husband. Good price.

  • Great mix
This is my go to soil, has been for a while now.. it’s rich and full of organic mix and my plants thrive in it…

  • It's a bag of dirt.
As expected, this was a bag of dirt. My plants grew in it successfully. What else can you ask for of a bag of dirt?

  • This Review Is For Right Now
How do you really know how to judge whether a soil you purchase is going to turn out? This is something that takes time. I had two hydrangeas that didn't make it past the first Winter. Was the pot too big? Was it the soil? This time, I went searching for the best soil for this type of plant and Espoma Organic was the suggestion. I also went for a smaller pot. For right now, the plants are happy. But only time, and the next Winter, will let me know for sure. Anything that says "organic" can tend to be expensive but I thought the price I paid (in order to make my plants happy) was worth it. I would use it for any plant and wondered why I never purchased before in the first place. If my plants make it, and they're happy, then this would be on my to purchase list. ... show more

  • BUYER BEWARE: FUNGUS GNATS
NEVER AGAIN!!!! After repotting a few plants with this soil, I had a fungus gnat outbreak. I treated in the usual way, with yellow sticky traps. No dice. I upped the ante with BTI and watered per instructions. A little bit better but the gnats still persisted to flourish. I wondered why as this had always worked. EEEEEK******I was cleaning my plant supplies and lifted the bag of soil!!! A cloud of of gnats buzzed out from where I had the bag stored. The bag itself had been incubating a monstrous gnat infestation. It had regular perforations where flurries of gnats had hatched and escaped into my home. I had to clean the whole area out with PEROXIDE and throw out the soil. All the items stored in the area at the were covered with little black specks of dead gnats that had come from the bag. The BAG OF SOIL was the source of the gnats!!!!!!! NOT MY PLANTS. EEEEEEEE again. gnats. I had to used hydrogen peroxide for cleaning and spray my plants with neem oil. Then had to treat them again with BTI. This took days. IT WAS NOT WORTH THIS AGONY. NEVER AGAIN. FOLLOW UP: BY THROWING OUT THE ESPOMA SOIL, MY GNATS DISSAPPEARED ALMOST ENTIRELY ... show more

  • Very pleased
I was hesitant to purchase potting soil online because last time it was infested with fungus gnats. I gave this a try because I've had so much success with other Espoma products. Mix was very nice, no fungus gnats and seedlings have been growing very well. Has good moisture retention so I haven't had to water very frequently. A few twigs and large pieces but nothing compared to other organic potting mixes I've used in the past. Also no off smells. Very high quality organic potting mix. ... show more

  • Works great!
Works great! The mix seems to be retaining water when I water it, but not enough to make anything rot. I've been mixing it with grass clippings (just because I had a pile of them and it's a good filler) and my plants seem to be doing great so far. It's been 80 degrees here for the past couple weeks, and I'm surprised at how little I've had to water, and the plants are growing wonderfully. ... show more

  • Fungus gnat infestation!
Be careful of where you unpackage this! I keep my gardening supplies in my garage, and that’s where I opened this box. Big mistake. The inside was teeming with fungus gnats—they were all over the product bag and everywhere else. They emerged and the rest is history; now I have the misfortune of a fungus gnat problem in my garage. Giving three stars anyway because it seems to be a decent potting medium and so far hasn’t be prone to getting overly heavy or water logged. ... show more
