  • It works, but it makes me a bit nervous.
Style: PC06P red power cage
Quality (1-5): 4 Price (1-5): 5 Value (1-5): 5 Satisfaction (1-5): 4 Overall (1-5): 4 TLDR: It works in a pinch, but don’t expect to become the next Mr. Olympia using it. The entire (long winded) experience: Overall, I’m not upset with this cage, but I do think one should really consider their options before committing to purchasing this. As advertised, the cage was delivered in two boxes. The first package delivered was the upright beams of the cage. At the time of delivery, I wasn’t home, and it required signature, so I missed that one—no big deal, I was willing to wait. The next day comes, and the second package is delivered while I was out of the house without signature required (a bit strange, but weirder things have happened). This box had an entire corner ripped open, with plastic packaging, foam, and some of the attachment bars/handles hanging out. I assume this must have been due to poor handling by the shipping company (whatever, it happens). The following day, I go to a pickup location to obtain the upright beams; this box too has substantial damage in a similar manner, and I can see one of the end plates is bent pretty substantially through the opening. I get it everything home and start the assembly process. As I’m opening what’s left of the boxes, I find many different (mostly cosmetic, admittedly) flaws, most of the internal packaging ripped and torn to shreds, the packages of screws and bolts were half empty and scattered across the box (This didn’t leave me with high hopes, though in the end, everything but one bolt was still there—lucky I guess). Assembly took about an hour and a half by myself (the instruction manual was quite a pain to read). I was able to bend the upright beam and pull-up bar brackets back into shape without cracking or breaking anything thankfully. Again, lots of dings, nicks and scratches through the finish of the materials. (I’m going to place the blame on shipping company as everything looked like it probably once was packaged quite well—must have just had a few grumpy handlers that had to deal with a heavy package or two) I’ve had this cage for approximately a month now in my garage in Florida and have used it 3-4x a week since assembly. My intent with this cage was never to lift incredibly heavy, but I start to get nervous with weights above 225 lbs and this cage’s ability to support it. The way the j-hooks are designed leaves the ability for a barbell to catch against the frame unless focusing on gently re-racking the bar. Additionally, the cage shakes quite a bit even when carefully racking weight, almost like there aren’t enough upright beams to prevent movement (I would also consider anchoring the cage to the floor if you have the ability). The cable system makes me very uneasy. While I am sure the cables themselves can support a decent weight, the ball catch, clip, and pulley system seem lacking. The only thing retaining the cable with the weight is a small slotted U-bracket with a bolt in which you hook your carabiner clips to. This U-bracket is only retained on the cable by the ball-end of the cable that is just a fraction wider than the slot (pictured above). This system seems not very well thought out, and I am already trying to plan out a replacement for when this inevitably catastrophically fails and allows the weight to smash down to the ground. Additionally, the roller carriage that holds the weight for the pulley system has quite a lot of friction against the stainless steel beam, resulting in somewhat jagged and uncontrolled motion during use—be sure to load weights evenly across both sides. The included carabiner clips for the pulley system are also a pain to use and don’t give me the impression that they were meant to support the loads they are sustaining during use. The advertised 1500 lb weight capacity of the cage seems downright unrealistic and made up. I don’t understand how the manufacturer or seller came up with this number, so please don’t consider that as a selling point. I have not loaded anything over 315 lbs on a barbell supported by the j-hooks, and don’t think I plan to either—something is bound to fail, likely resulting in injury. Finally, this package includes a number of different attachments, though I plan to replace most of them as the grip options are limited and offer very little actual grip as they slide/rotate during use. In the end, I suppose this cage isn’t necessarily a poor value for what’s included, especially considering the versatility of movements one can do. Would I recommend it to someone else? Maybe; if they are just starting to get into fitness and they have a need for a beginner-tier home gym. Also, about a week after delivery, I received a postcard in the mail from the seller offering a $50 Amazon gift card if I wrote a 5-star review with included video. I have received these from a few different companies with other products I’ve ordered through Amazon, and the practice seems shady and and disingenuous. I don’t appreciate bought reviews. ... show more

  • Great product for the price
For starters, I haven't actually used it yet. I just got it yesterday and got it assembled last night. By the time I was done it was quite a bit later than I realized and therefore I didn't get up this morning to use it. That said, these are my observations so far (some of these are more just what I think would be good or personal preference): 1. It would be cool if they could send it in three packages like some do. I wasn't home when it was delivered, my MIL was. I had already passed on word to just tell the delivery driver to just drop it where they can, I don't want anyone getting hurt. The poor driver was apparently a tiny, maybe 5'5" tall (if not shorter) woman who, the packages probably weighed almost as much as she did. She was apparently VERY appreciative. The long package with all the uprights; I had no problem picking that up. The second package I don't think weighed any more but I couldn't really get a grip on it to move it. 2. I've seen complaints about the instructions; that they're hard to follow. They're not 100% clear but... its not brain surgery either. Most of it is pretty self-explanatory; the guidance on where some of the longer vs shorter bolts go is helpful. Otherwise ... not that complicated. HOWEVER: I only finger tightened the nuts until it was all together because I am aware that one should not tight the nuts fully until it is all together or things might not line up right. Its kind of like alternating which lugnuts to tighten on a tire. That said, only complaint I have on the instructions is that I didn't see any place that actually tells you to fully assemble then tighten which, for me wasn't an issue but for someone who doesn't know, it could be. Further, all the pulleys needed to be tightened, which is fine, but there was no specification given on how tight they should be so I'm just hoping I got it tightened to the proper extent (too much and it binds the pulleys, too little and they wobble). 3. That said, it took me a few hours to put it all together. Now, that included dismantling and moving my old rack, unpackaging took forever, I then put it together and finger tightened, and after went through the instructions step by step to tighten each nut so I could make sure I didn't miss any. I did most of it myself. My wife did help stabilize the uprights so I could put the top parts on because you cannot get them even remotely tight with the lock nuts using fingers. I did not use the included wrenches. I used my own 17mm socket with an adjustable crescent wrench. When all was said and done there were two bars (both of the rear bars) that I had put on incorrectly. The instructions were not 100% clear on how they should be on but common sense allowed me to recognize my error and fix it (bottom one was backwards ... leave the cushion pad to the rear ... top one was upside down ... hooks need to face up in order to hold things). 4. With it all together I'd say it is pretty sturdy and stable. With my old rack I couldn't use my resistance bands pulling out to the front with much resistance or the rack would tip if I didn't leave a bar loaded up with weight. This one feels like it will be more than stable (partly because I won't be using resistance bands I'll be using the cable system that will have weight on it. 5. I like how it has numbers on the sides so you can get rods and hooks put in the right place consistently. My old one, I had to write numbers with a sharpie. 6. From what I can tell so far, this rack is definitely worth the money and I look forward to trying it out. If I get around to it, I'll update this after I've used it. ... show more

  • Nice value, simple assembly, functions well
Style: PC06P red power cage
The cage is a nice unit. My 14 year old daughter and I assembled it in about 3 hours with interuptions. The parts and hardware were very well packaged and labeled. There were no issues with things not lining up or having to beat bolts through shoddy metal work. The directions were clear and when combined with the assembly video from the website, we had no questions about the steps. It was, honestly, one of the simplest things we've assembled given the quality, clear information and great labels for each step. ... show more

Style: PC06P black power cage
I feel better after only 3 days once I got this thing fully assembled it only took 3 days for me to start feeling better Not that I felt bad before I had free weights when I was younger I'm 63 now And buying this thing was the best decision I ever made I know that sounds so commercial but it's true If you know how to lift weights meaning you know how to do "the exercises" And you never had a power cage before this one ain't a bad start I love it. ... show more
