First, stay away from the Epiphone glittering goldtop ‘56 reissue Les Pauls that look like hell and sound pathetic. However, this worn gold top finish Les Paul with the split coil pickups giving you both single coil and humbucker options for each pickup is not so terribly different than its 6-9K Gibsons-but I’m no expert and maybe half of similar level guitar players could tell the difference. I don’t like the Zebra humbucker appearance so I put on some nickel pickup covers and made a slight change to the volume and tone knobs and lowered the action just a smidge. Plugged it into my combination Orange 35rt solid state /Silvertone1482 tube amplifiers and for $491 including tax and free Prime shipping this is a no guilt no remorse real Les Paul that doesn’t make me cringe every time I look at it! Outside of some grain poking through the worn gold finish, this guitar feels solid and dependable for any and all occasions. I have to say that the difference between the single coils and the humbuckers is much more noticeable which is fine with me. In the end analysis this $450 guitar is worth checking out and you can always say it doesn’t work for you and by a Gibson. Be careful because there are a lot of very attractive copies all over the web ... show more

The pictures just do not do this beautiful guitar justice and must be seen in person to appreciate it! The "worn look" is spot on & feels much smoother (not as tacky feeling) than high gloss finishes. The color contrast between the gold color & the mahogany back is awesome looking. A little oil on the fretboard will really brighten it up for you as well. The pots & pickups are really nice as well with the 3way switch & the push/pull coil splitters on the knobs. It sounds/plays great & has stayed in tune for me. An for the price, it's a good deal. I know they're going by Epiphone standards but I'm pretty impressed that the Chinese were able to handcraft something so nice; since that's not always the case. This is an excellent electric for beginners, for those who play a little & for those who are rock stars. You can't go wrong with this guitar. Sometimes beginners will buy the cheapest guitar to start playing on. Don't Do That! There is a huge difference between a $100-$300 & this one. Invest a little bit in yourself & your equipment, because going cheap is only going to frustrate you, probably give you a way to just quit on yourself or will force you to spend more money later because the $100-$309 guitar just isn't going to sound very nice and you'll end up buying a slightly more expensive guitar anyway; especially if you enjoy playing. An trust me, when you unpack this guitar for the 1st time, you're going to FEEL LIKE A ROCK STAR!! May as well look like one too! ... show more

I took a while to write this review as I have been playing the guitar as much as possible! Solid build, good pickups, and great eye appeal. It was in the case I bought just to be sure it fit.

I read the reviews on this guitar. Most were pretty positive. Honestly for the price point it's ok. However when it arrived, it was not even close to set up. The neck relief was about .020 mm (too much relief). Had to adjust the neck, about 3/4 of a turn tighter...the plastic nut slots are a bit too deep. Both the strings were a couple thousandths too close to the first fret, and the top of each string is about flush with the top of the nut. About half of the string should protrude above the nut. I will replace the nut with cattle bone soon. Had to set the action, intonation, and pickups were way too high. They do not sound good. Clarity is low, and they break up very quickly. I'll be putting in some Duncan's. Lastly, the "Worn Finish", just means no clear coat finish, so the neck has a lot of texture. The tuners look like Grovers, but they say Wilkinson. I own several Epiphones, and this one is not as good as those. ... show more

Solid and heavy like a standard but make sure you have fretboard oil or some sort of oil like mineral oil dunlop 65 for the fretboard shes dry as a bone. Make sure you have super glue because the nut wasn't seated and was just floating around in its channel. Does have some ruff spots tord the heel like if you shave then wait a day n a half burrs not something that can't be taken out with fine steelwool I wouldn't recommend sand paper unless 400 grit then do it lightly. Fret ends were a bit sharp ive felt way way worse wasn't set up all the good had high action when it came in i can't say much about electronics I'm putting different ones in. All n all a good solid guitar may not be for a beginner but if you understand at minimum basic wood understanding and know how to use super glue and youtube but will need a look over here n there im content with spending the 484 with tax I payed for it not rich just a guitar player. ... show more
