  • Nice Kayak
Color: Glacier Blue Pattern Name: Kayak
This was my first kayak. I needed something that wasn’t too much for me to carry around myself (5’4”, 130lbs). I’ve been mostly pleased with this purchase. Some pluses - it’s very stable, has storage, place to store other gear up top. I’m a newbie at kayaking but would say it probably tracks well for a short kayak. Biggest downside is the seat. It works ok once you have it fully attached and you’re seated in kayak, but doesn’t want to stay connected in any convenient way for storage and transferring. I find it a real pain. ... show more

  • Great, easy to use boat, gets you out on the water!
Color: Orange Pattern Name: Kayak
For me this is a nice boat. It handles somewhat choppy water just fine, and it tracks pretty well for a sit-on-top. It's comfortable for at least a couple of hours, my typical outing, on lakes that can get a bit choppy with winds and power boats creating wakes. I love sitting on top, easy to get on and off, and it has never come close to tipping. There are various footrest positions so you can vary your posture. You can clip a paddle leash to it, and there are bungees by the side handholds so you can put the paddle alongside if you want to float with it out of the way. You can also clip the seat back down for storing/transport There is a storage compartment with a watertight seal in the hull, though I'm not convinced that the space stays dry, have noticed a little water in there, but I haven't found a use for that yet, since I just keep what I need in a waterproof bag on top in easy reach. Overall, if you want a sturdy boat that is easy to use and will even fit inside a Honda HRV, this one will work. ... show more

  • GREAT NEWS FOR HONDA CIVIC OWNERS - IT FITS ! - And....... It TRACKS Fine !!!
Color: Glacier Blue Pattern Name: Kayak
I purchased this little Kayak to replace my Cobra Tandem (11.6 ft) that fits on top of my VW Westy which I am selling soon. Just got my 1st "Non-VW" in over 30 years - a 2006 Honda Civic LX. Because I won't have my big Transporter anymore, I've had to do some serious re-thinking about outfitting my various hobbies to fit my new wheels. I worried for weeks about what I was going to do about a Kayak, since my Tandem won't fit in the car. As a result of that & also the fact that my new Wife won't go anywhere near the water (unlike my Ex who thought she could paddle but couldn't), I decided to sell the Tandem & finally downsize to a Single. Well, after carefully researching the Internet on this particular Craft (the Emotion Spitfire 8 as well) & getting all the dimensions, I painstakingly measured the dimensions of the Civic's trunk space, as well as the room of the passenger section with the back seat pulled down. After comparing those measurements many times with the dimensions of the Spitfire 8 & 9, I came to the pleasant conclusion that either would fit in my new Civic just fine - especially the Spitfire 8, where it seemed that the "8" would hardly stick out of the back. However, when studying as many reviews of both Crafts (with most reviews on the "8" reporting of terrible Tracking & many on the "9" stating "Bad-to-OK-to Good" Tracking), I decided on the Spitfire 9, since the Tracking was the better of the two & let this longer Kayak stick out the back a little more than the "8" would & also because the "9" had more features ie. the cool & useful Hatch, etc. After ordering the "9" I was afraid that I had made a mistake, thinking it may end up not fitting in my Civic after all, despite my careful measurements & figuring. When I took delivery, I immediately opened my trunk, lowered the back seat, picked the Spitfire 9 & shoved it in the back as if I had practiced it a dozen times. GOOD NEWS #1 - The Craft FIT in my new car as if IT WAS MADE FOR IT ! It clears through the Trunk's "Back Seat" opening with room to spare & I can slide the Boat all the way to where the Bow fits right up between the two front seats (laid a brand new tarp inside all along where the boat lays to keep the interior nice). After doing that, the back of the Kayak only sticks out about 1 1/2 - 2 ft, very manageable ! Tied a flag on the back, hooked two long Bungee cords inside the Trunk lid to the Towing ring underneath the car, threw in all the rest of the gear & was off to the Morro Bay harbor within minutes. Boy was I thrilled to discover all my hard work paid off ! GOOD NEWS #2 - The Spitfire 9 TRACKS JUST FINE ! Honestly, I don't know what those other reviewers are talking about when they say this Craft doesn't track well. Compared to some real sleek, expensive Kayak that has a big fin underneath, well, the "9" may not be anywhere in that class. Or maybe they just don't know how to "Oar" (Paddle) very well yet. However, I can only go by my own experience on this. All I know is, after getting over the anxiety of the Spitfire 9 hopefully fitting in my Civic, I next had to contend with the worry over the "Tracking" Issue. Well, I took my new little Boat in my new little Car down to the Embarcadero, parked it at the MB Cove, slipped the "9" into the water & began paddling in the same normal fashion as I always have done on my Cobra Tandem, expecting the worse. However, to my delight my new little Spitfire 9 paddled & tracked just as straight as my Tandem & just about as fast (not real speedy, but very adequate for a small sit-on-top). Heck, my new "9" paddled so good ( with the Bow "torquing" left & right only about 5-8" during each stroke - fairly normal, just like when on my Tandem & nothing at all like some people are reporting), I took off & paddled the whole half-mile or so all the way next to Morro Rock & right next to the MB Harbor mouth just behind the North Jetty effortlessly (against a very mild Incoming Tide) within minutes, until the huge Dredger working right there chased me well away from the area LOL. Upon "paddling back to port", I was very proud of both myself & my new boat for my patient research & for the Spitfire 9 pulling through for me - in not only Portability but in Performance as well. Summing up - The Emotion Spitfire 9 ROCKS (not "Rocks" like "Tippy-Canoe & Hilliard Too" LOL) !!! Take it from me, all you Honda Civic (or equivalent) owners, etc - I don't know about the Spitfire 8 (which is reported to not Track as well), but the Emotion Spitfire 9 is one excellent, stable, good - Tracking little Kayak (check the sites that show what Fishermen are doing with outfitting these cute little boats - truly amazing !) & it truly FITS LIKE A GLOVE ! Talk about Solutions - PROBLEM SOLVED ! The only reason for only 4 Stars & not 5 is the poor "Hand Well" on each side. Like others have reported, they are not quite deep enough to efficiently hold the boat very well for lifting (although it is a very light Kayak), moving, etc. You kind of have to work around it by using them as an alternative, along with just doing what you would normally do without them. However, this is just one small gripe. With all the positive things about this little Kayak, I just can't help but saying that you will be well-pleased with this one & I'm very glad that I chose the Spitfire 9 over the Spitfire 8 (was well worth the nominal extra money). So all you Honda Civic, etc Owners : "GO DOWN 'N GIT YA ONE" !!! Hope this Helps. ... show more

  • Definitely a great Kayak
Color: Glacier Blue Pattern Name: Kayak
Easy to maneuver, very stable and very stylish. I bought it so I could have my bags and it not worry about a weight limit. This could easily handle all my stuff and I never worried about turning over. Very happy with my purchase.

  • Terrible tracking
Color: Orange Pattern Name: Kayak
Like many of the other reviews mentioned, the tracking on this kayak is terrible! I've done a lot of kayaking (this kayak was meant to be an addition to one I already have) this is more than just the nose pushing with the paddle strokes, it will not stay an a semi straight path! What is concerning (and lead to me returning this) is once it starts to drift, it is extremely difficult to correct, you can't just push out of it. You're only real option is to brake or just accept the spin. As someone else mentioned, I had a friend I frequently kayak with test it just to make sure I want crazy and he had the same problem. Outside of the tracking issue, the side handles are almost useless, they're too shallow to actually carry the kayak. I also agree with the other reviews that the scupper holes should've planned a little better, it's not the end of the world but except a puddle in your kayak, and your butt will get wet from the scuppers under the seat. Lastly, it isn't as stable as I would like to see, it's not unmanageable, but not as stable as some of the other similar kayaks I've used. ... show more

  • My Happy Place
Color: Glacier Blue Pattern Name: Kayak
My Happy Place- After a month, I am very happy with this kayak. I have been out about 4 times a week for 4-6 mile trips and am looking forward to working my way up to longer trips. It is short enough to fit in my mini-van, and light enough that I can handle it by myself. I am 5’4” and wanted something I could take out by myself and this definitely fits the bill. The shorter length makes it easy to maneuver but it takes a little practice to keep straight over long distances as compared to a 10 or 12 foot kayak. The two tank-wells give plenty of storage outside and the hatch is very convenient for inner storage. Overall, a great kayak for the money. ... show more

  • Very satisfied
Color: Orange Pattern Name: Kayak
Very good deal the money. I searched a lot of details on different kayak styles and sizes and brands. We have a lake by our home to utilize and it was perfect. I’m 5’ tall and 105 lbs and it fits perfectly even thought it will hold like 300lbs! My only dislike is the side molded grips are kinda pointless. You really can’t grip it. ... show more
