  • Great for beginners
Lens Color: Turquoise/Blue
This is my first SUP. As in - I have never ridden on before this and it's the first one I've owned. I do own a kayak though, so I've always wanted to try this out. Setup: The setup with this SUP is rather simple. Lay it out flat, connect the pump with a half-twist, and fill it with air. The hand pump takes about 3-5 minutes to fill the board to 12 PSI. That's a lot of pumps, so you may need to take a break if you've got shorter arms or you just get tired since it's a good workout. Once filled to 12psi you can flip the board over and remove the protective foam on the outer fins and attach the main fin in the center. The removable center fin has a small locking piece that looks simple, but works perfectly. The paddle comes in three sections. Two of them clip together with a push clip and the top section slides into the center section and is adjustable for your height. The paddle is pretty basic, but in my outings so far it's done just fine. Construction: Once inflated, the SUP is very firm. I choose to inflate it at home and toss it on my roof rack before heading out so that I can use my air compressor for the majority of the inflation. It travels just fine and I've had it up to 65mph with no issues. The color scheme is really nice with a few shades of blue that look great together. Several people mentioned that they liked it. The standing section of the board has a good texture and I never found it slippery or harsh on my bare feet. The ankle strap has enough slack to help you forget you're wearing it after a little while. The included sippered "cooler" section is nice, but not perfect. By it's design, it will only open a small slit, so you'll not be loading more than one water bottle at a time. I was able to store my flip flops and a large metal water bottle without issue though. If it had a "T" shaped opening you could use it more easily, but it would be harder to keep it dry. Speaking of dry, if you splash water onto the deck of the sup it will likely pool at the zipper. Make sure to clear that away with your hand before you unzip it if you want to keep things dry. Operation: As I said, this was my first time on a SUP. I'm lucky that I have a kayak launch with a handle bar. I was able to load the sup in backwards (fins in the deep water) and then use the bar to help me get used to standing on it. I found the most stable position to be about 2/3rd toward the rear with my feet side by side about a foot apart. I have been able to ride the board without falling off so far (so far!) and I'm happy to say it was more stable than I expected. I've piloted it from my knees and standing. The SUP tracks fairly straight regardless of which side you paddle from so I typically do 3-4 stokes on my right and then switch to 1-2 on the left as I go. To turn sharp I found that paddling backwards on that side works best. Maybe that will be useful for new riders like me. Conclusion: I'm really happy with this board. There's an included carry bag (well made with a long zipper) with backpack straps that holds the board and pump and probably a bit more if you wanted. For the price I couldn't imagine more. Similar inflatable boards are available at my local stores but they typically go for a much higher cost, and it would be hard to beat the quality of this board. Highly Recommended for beginners. ... show more

  • High Quality Materials - Solid Construction - Good Design
Lens Color: Black/Grey
I'm new to paddle-boarding, but have spent years playing with and occasionally repairing my inflatable kayak. I have to say that I'm impressed with the quality of materials and workmanship on this paddleboard. All the joints are expertly fitted and joined, the hardware, such as the valve, the fins, the paddle, the pump, and even the backpack are all of good, solid, quality - at least equal to the parts & materials on my $1200 kayak, and on my new name-brand inflatable surf board. I like the feel and texture of the rubber top-decking where one places their feet; it seems both gripp-ey and durable at the same time. I like the inflation valve and how it works, as well as the two-stage pump with a pressure read-out dial on the top. I'm in reasonably good shape and it only took me a couple of minutes to inflate to the recommended pressure. The instructions were also clear and complete, including a caution not to leave the board fully inflated in the sun when out of the water (I've had seams on my kayak to fail for this reason, so was pleased the manufacturer noted this.) The storage area toward the front is a nice design feature. The space is about 4" deep, and you can feel that there's insulating foam on the top and bottom sides of the space. The zipper initially feels stiff, but the company has included zipper-lube (looks like a stick of lip balm) which allows it to move much more freely. Even with the zipper loosened, the opening is fairly narrow (I would guess that on a hot day when the zipper and surrounding PVC material are hot and flexible, it would open further, perhaps up to 5 or 6" wide). I consider this space mostly good for the smaller items one might want to take like a water bottle, canned drinks, phone, etc., which is quite handy. I also like that the backpack has plenty of space to hold the deflated board and all the accessories without having to squeeze everything in. The only thing in the entire kit that needed work was the tightening mechanism on the paddle handle. When it arrived, even when the plastic clip was closed, it didn't exert enough pressure to keep the handle from sliding up and down. Even though, at first it didn't look like it, the side of the tightening mechanism with the plastic arm can be carefully turned clockwise (mine only needed two turns) to increase the holding pressure, thus allowing the clip to exert the proper amount of pressure. My experience on flat water: I wanted to get a feel for the stability in calm water before taking the board to the ocean, so tried it out on a local lake. I was very pleased with the stability; at first I climbed on the back and shimmied-up up on my belly, then soon realized that it was plenty stable to get on my knees, and then into a standing position. With my higher center of gravity, the board obviously got a little more wobbly, but I quickly found that there were lots of comfortable, stable positions I could place my feet, both to the side, and front to back. I was most comfortable standing with one foot slightly forward of the other, about shoulder-distance apart, somewhere at or just behind the carrying handle (center of the main deck) though I found that I could move forward or backward from that point without adversely affecting the balance of the board. At one point, my partner wanted to ride along, so she sat on the front edge of the main deck area (about 12" forward of the carrying handle) cross legged, and the balance and handling of the board remained very comfortable with me standing and paddling about a foot or so aft of the carrying handle (We are both about 150 lbs. and around 5' 7"). Not only was the paddle board stable, but the decking was very grip-ey; my feet had no tendency to slip at all. On this trip I also discovered a couple of other helpful things. We use an air mattress inflator to inflate our kayak, and found that it also works well to add the bulk of the air to the paddle board (saves lots of hand-pumping if you have one). All I had to do was switch over to the hand pump that was included to finish the high-pressure portion of the inflation. We also discovered that the forward storage area on the paddle board was very convenient for holding water bottles, and our cell phones (in waterproof cases) and other accessories. Additionally, I found that the board was easy to carry underneath my arm, holding onto the handle in the center of the deck. This was helpful to know, because there are places I'd like to take the board that require walking two or three minutes from the parking area, and now I know that the board is easily manageable and lightweight to carry. ... show more
