They are certainly black out if you have the correct curtain rods. If you have rods that just come straight out and don't allow you to fully close the curtain then you are absolutely going to have light leak. If you have the right curtain rods like me, then this will definitely block out the light coming in. I have an out of the norm sleep schedule and I'm often going to bed when the sun comes up. These are nice, blackout curtains meant to look like linen. Though nice, they do not look like real linen. I like the grommet use but in this case, for living room or bedroom curtains, the grommets make the curtains look more like a shower curtain. As I said, nice curtains all in all and quite inexpensive. They do keep the heat and cold out a bit, which is worth something. This review is for: Eclipse Pembroke Blackout, Faux Linen Grommet Window Curtains, 84 in Long x 42 in Wide Color: I got Dark Blue/Indigo. It’s almost a denim color. Texture: very similar to a slightly nubby linen, although it doesn’t have the nubs. Room darkening: the liner is attached to the whole back of the curtain. It isn’t a separate piece of fabric attached at the edges. It does a very good job blocking light. The picture is actually more light than the room really was since the camera couldn’t focus without a bit of extra light. Of course, there is light leakage from the top, which is unavoidable with a curtain. This curtain is also washable! Wash on cold, line dry, cool iron as needed. This is great since we put this in our 5 yo daughter’s room and she often has messy hands. She also will go to sleep better with less light coming in. The package comes with two panels. They slide well on the curtain bar, which was also important to us so that the 5 yo can open and close the curtains without pulling down the whole bar. The rings are brushed nickel and look very nice, not cheap. Overall, I’m happy with these curtains and would buy them again. ... show more

These are great curtains! They blackout a room minus whatever light would come in around the edge of the curtains. We tried putting a flashlight behind our old curtains which you could clearly see through the curtains. With these curtains, you can't even see the light at all. These are great curtains. They're heavy so they hold their shape and they don't blow around. They're a beautiful color - I got them in gray. They block out light excellently which I love. I have them in my living room and I like to be able to close them to watch TV or a movie or sometimes just nap on my couch. I definitely want to get this brand for the rest of my house, especially my bedroom.
