I traveled with it backpacking for 2 months through multiple countries in Southeast Asia. 12+ flights checking the bag and I did NOT go easy on this thing. It held up so incredibly, I was genuinely impressed! The material is very durable and you can tell it is very well made/stitched throughout and waterproof. SO GREAT! Now that I'm back from my African safari trip, where I was told to use a duffle bag with certain proportions, I can honestly say this bag was amazing. And So GLAD I purchased it. I went on a two week trip so I needed a good mix of clothes - I rolled all my clothes. I could not believe how much I could fit in it. (and it was jammed!) Here is the list I fit in (totaled 17 lbs): two jeans, 2 lightweight nylon type track pants, 1 skort, 1 shorts, two sport bras and 5 underwear (I could wash them), 6 tops (4 short sleeve tees and 2 long sleeve shirts), a sweater, a maxi dress (jersey tank style), a bathing suit, 1 pair each - sandals and sneakers. In the outer pockets: toiletry bag, medication bag, electrical outlet adaptors, cord chargers for phone and watch, baseball hat, and a book! The sturdiness of the fabric was surprisingly rugged and definitely waterproof. It felt like a rubberized canvas. The straps can be fitted to wear as a backpack or carry cross body and there are handles to make it easy to carry by hand. Used this bag on a couple of treks overseas. It stood up well to checking on airlines and daily bag taxi service. I like that it's water resistant in cases where it sits out on a sidewalk for a bit in the rain. If completely full, it's oversized for carry on, but I've taken it on several weekend trips when its loosely full and carried it onto the plane and didn't hear any complaints from flight attendants. I like the material of the bag, while not waterproof on the bottom, the rest of it is at least water repellent. Handles buckles and zippers are all good, the backpack straps are meh. I don’t like that they don’t tuck flat into the lid, so if the straps are tucked it creates extra bulk going into the bag. ... show more

Expands and holds so much, yet fits under the airplane seat. Sturdy and attractive. Outside-accessed pockets keep toiletries/make-up away from inside stuff. Inside is open with center separator option. Best thing for me personally is, even with a sweater and pair of shoes inside it holds my purse, allowing me to consolidate my carry-ons to 2 before I board a plane (this duffel and a small suitcase). The bottom of the duffel appears to be a different (non-waterproof) material, but it is just an extra layer of protection for abrasion. The fabric material holds up to running water for 15 minutes and does not soak through. The seams may or may not be so waterproof, however, so I would not use this if it will be submerged. But it's great for rain and snow. It keeps all my things dry in bad weather. The fabric material is not excessively stiff and is easy to handle, unlike some competitors. For travel it's the perfect carry on bag size to go in the overhead bins on aircraft. The hideaway backpack straps are quite easy to use and do the job of hauling your things through all the world's airports. ... show more

    • Too Fussy, Zippers a Bit Too Hard to Operate
I bought this based on the fairly strong reviews from others. It’s the right size for what I needed. After using it once, I have to say I don’t rate it as highly as others. I like the general spatial design, but the details are flawed. For the money (and the strength of this company which I’ve loved over the years), I would expect the zippers to slide open and closed easily (they do not). On one side, the side pocket has a flap over the zipper that I assume is meant to protect it from water (but there’s not one to protect the pocket on the other side??), but this flap got in my way of trying to get the zipper open. The zipper that opens the top of the duffel is not as hard to use as the 2 side zips, but the top flap and connectors get in the way of this top zipper. It all looks pretty cool and technical, but I am not sure all that technicality is needed. I didn’t get to try the backpack straps, so can’t comment on those. I ended up feeling like the technical design was more to make the bag look cool and compete with some others out there rather than for any particular purpose. I like that I can use the pocket on one side to stuff the entire duffel into it when not using. I’ll keep using it, but I don’t think I’d recommend this or buy it if I had to do it again. ... show more
