I'm sure this has more to do with shipping routes and timing, but the generator arrived almost a full week before the estimated delivery date. The driver was very professional and friendly. The DuroStar generator was well packaged on a pallet that unit was easy to move. After removing plastic straps I unpacked by opening the top and splitting the box at each corner. The ground was wet, so this provided dry cardboard work areas around the generator. Accessories were packed in a box and easy to install without reading instructions. The generator is fairly heavy, but I had no problem lifting one end enough to put wheels on, then lifting the other end to attach the legs. The handles are individually mounted and do not have any of the pinch points that were designed into the handle on our old Generac unit that this is replacing. I hope we get better use out of this generator. The Generac failed after logging less than 2 hours on the meter. We purchased this DuroStar model specifically because it does not have the carbon monoxide sensor system and it is not a dual or tri-fuel version. We just wanted a simple gasoline generator with electric start. This generator is more than enough to run our well pump, water heater, kitchen and living room outlets. Our house has a separate emergency panel with a transfer switch, so we don't want or need to use this as a whole house generator. If we need heat, we have a wood stove in the basement that can keep the house reasonably warm. The DuroStar generator came with an excellent manual, that is by far the best I have seen in recent years. The accessories included electrical plugs for every type of outlet on the generator, a tool kit, a funnel/hose for adding oil and a set of DC charging leads! Amazing and very much appreciated.

Preliminary review, as I have not installed the interlock yet, so I cannot comment on how well it might run the house... First, Amazon truck shipping was outstanding. They arrived within the stated window, were polite, and put the unit exactly where I wanted it. Earned their tip. Minor assembly was required (wheels and handles, no big deal). The unit comes with basic tools, but only basic wrenches are needed, and I preferred using my own. As an aside, it also comes with connectors for all the outlets, in case you want to wire your own, which I don't. The manual is "OK", but I don't expect decent documentation from China. It's good enough. It seems to be reasonably well built. Again, the kind of nuts and bolts I expect from Chinese hardware. Nothing spectacular, nothing unacceptable. You'll need slightly more than a quart of 10W30 oil to get going. I filled the oil, added some gas, and the unit started on the first pull. A little rough at first, but calmed down quickly. Part of this was my fault, as I thought it needed more choke time. It doesn't -- with the idle control on (comes that way), the idle calms down quickly and you think the engine is stopping, but it isn't. Runs reasonably smooth. I put my SPL meter a foot away from the muffler, and it generates 89 dBA at idle, and about 96 dBA with a load. For comparison, my little Champion generator (3000/3500) produces 87 dBA at idle, apples to apples, and is fairly quiet in my experience with generators. So all in all, not bad. The electric start did not work, but, as others discovered, I realized later that one of the battery terminals isn't connected. I haven't bothered to connect it yet. Honestly, I find electric start systems to be not worth the cost and would have happily spent less on a unit that didn't have it in the first place. But I guess it's nice for those who like it. I will update the review after I use it more extensively. 10/17/2016 Update: I finally connected the battery, and the electric start works fine. Still awaiting the interlock installation.

This generator was the best deal I found when you compare wattage / dollar ratio. it comes well-reviewed, and on first impression, i'd say it will live up to it's ratings. I'm not too bothered by the noise level. it is about expected for an 18HP motor. one thing i was very pleased with was the idle control switch. with this turned on, the machine idles low when there is no load, and then revs up to meet the demand when there is an electrical load (something is plugged in). This will reduce fuel consumption during times that there is nothing drawing power. I was not too impressed with the packaging, though. The box was pretty badly mangled when it arrived, and some of the sheet metal panels (not any essential parts - just heat shields and cosmetic panels) were bent, as well as one of the wheel rims. the tires are solid rubber, not pneumatic, so there is no risk of flat tires due to a bent rim. Overall, I am very pleased with the product. It cranked up easily with both the key and the pull-starter. Looking forward to getting a transfer switch installed and the wiring ready for our next major power outage....BRING IT ON!! ;-)

I received my unit on time as promised. It is easy to assemble. The battery ground wire is disconnected as expected and after connecting the wire, filling the fuel tank, and adding a good grade of 30 weight oil it started up in a couple of seconds. I have not put a heavy load on the unit but I did connect a large shop vacuum (120v) and the motor throttled up to handle the load. Overall the unit appears well constructed. I am installing a transfer switch in a few weeks and hope the generator can handle a few dedicated circuits I installed for lights, freezers, and my UPS units for computers and TVs. The price is certainly low when compared to the most popular generator in this wattage range of which I can't mention here. The connector panel is certainly well laid out with receptacles, breakers, and volt meter. Funny thing is I had a power outage the day after this unit arrived. All I could do is scratch my head and laugh. I'll have it all built out soon. North Texas ice and storms are coming.
