I purchased the generator for my house in the event of a loss of power. It arrived well packaged and with instructions for a break in period. I followed all the instructions to a tee. The unit started fairly easy but was obviously struggling to maintain an RPM to generate power. Upon looking at the oil an excessive amount of metal was found in the oil. A claim was filed with them for a refund which they denied. Thet said SOME metal was to be found in the oil at break in. I have over 40 years experience with internal combustion engines, rebuilding, building new and repairing. I understand a small amount or material is to be found in the oil at break-in. The unit had been run at the factory so the metal left from manufacturing should have been cycled through the filter and caught by the filter then. something is self-destructing internally in this engine. They will not stand behind the product. Amazon will not stand behind their so-called A to Z guarantee. I have exhausted my claim and appeal opportunities for this and am now just stuck with it. Could I repair it myself sure. but after spending over 5000 dollars of hard-earned money why should I have to do that for a brand-new piece of equipment. All I can say is buyer beware! move to some other vendor for a better generator. I feel the price that is involved here is preventing a satisfactory outcome. I hope it is not the keep denying until they just get tired of trying scenario. If something changes in this process, I will update this review to reflect the results. Update: Amazon will not stand behind their warranty. I have provided pictures and professional opinions to no avail. The third party reseller will not respond. This item because it is an expensive unit has caused them to look for any loop hole to deny a refund. This is a shameful example of blatant disregard for the customer. This is a great generator for large loads. I have had this hold up my 2000 square foot house and is now currently managing my camp at elevation levels 6500'. Tech support is great and I can find repair shops nearby who work with DuroMax but mine is now in the shop for starter replacement in less than 50 hours with two starts. Unfortunately because they don't make inverter generators at this size except Duromax I had to purchase another one for backup. ... show more

I was genuinely excited to use this Duromax 16,000W inverter generator, but my very first experience with it was frightening and unacceptable. Right out of the box, the unit showed an “Overload” error even though nothing was plugged in. After speaking with a technician, we were able to get it running and began the recommended break-in period. About five hours into the break-in, the generator suddenly made a loud popping noise, started smoking, and then caught fire between the alternator and exhaust. We had to call the fire department to put it out. For a brand-new unit, this is extremely concerning and clearly a major component failure. This was my first time trying any Duromax product, and it could have seriously injured someone. I’m now waiting to speak with Duromax about what went wrong and what they plan to do to fix this situation. Until I get real answers, I cannot recommend this generator at all. ... show more

This is NON-RETURNABLE…and apparently non-refundable as well. So when you get it delivered after waiting 2 weeks and it doesn’t run, you get the privilege of trying to get your $5,000 back from Amazon, 6 times reaching out and 25 days later I still have not received a refund. These are impossible to get repaired with there not being any compatible parts available. Save your money and your sanity and just by from Harbor Freight like I should have, their warranty is awesome and they won’t make you wait 25 days just to be told it’s going to be at least another 7 days. We love the generator overall. It’s quiet, and has great features like a key fob to turn on/off. However, it leaked oil badly on arrival and once we’d disassembled found there was a scratch on the engine block and a missing o ring causing the leak. I was about to purchase this product because its the most powerful inverter generator on amazon. Then I noticed it has a 10.5gal tank and runs for 10 hours. In a hurricane or after one the LAST thing I wanna do is risk my life going to get more gas because the generator runs a w16 bugatti motor in it apparently. Then I see all the other people's reviews who actually spent 5 THOUSAND American dollars on this chinese made product and see the one guy who had large metal chunks in his oil (indicating the engine had exploded internally) and the company refused to give him a refund and amazon wouldnt return it either. So even if you get a good one its still going to have the WORST gas mileage of any generator on the market. ... show more
