Works great on plastic, resin, wood and pewter and sprays thinly enough that I use it on miniatures ranging from 1/9 scale to the tiny 1/64th scales, which puts my smaller sculptures at about the size of a coin. So long as you keep it to about 2-3 thin coats, this primer will preserve detail at that scale, which I found pleasantly surprising from a primer product that wasn’t intentionally designed for miniature painting projects. The rust is my favorite for pewter minis as it has a stronger grip on pewter and so far hasn’t scratched. Rust also offers the best tooth for airbrush acrylics and for hand painting oils (the hot rod grey also offers the same tooth if you don’t want a red base to paint on). I also use these primers on cradled wood panels for quickly achieving colored grounds for acrylic and oil paintings. It gets along well with Testors Dullcoat sealer and Winsor and Newton Professional Picture Varnishes. If you filled seems or imperfections with Bondo, you’ll likely need to spray additional layers over those areas to fully coat the Bondo and give a consistent ground for your paint, otherwise you may see the paint react to the Bondo. White primer will need more layers yet, both for consistency and to build enough opacity to cover the red of Bondo. ... show more

Dries so fast!!! I love it. When I get ready to paint mini's I hate having to wait around FOREVER for other primers to dry, this one I feel comfortable putting paint on top of it within 45 mins to an hour after I put the last coat of this (which I have only ever needed 2-3 light coats). Wish the price had stayed lower, then it would get all the gold stars, but it is what it is. Worth the cost when needed quickly. I watched several YouTube videos on this system and the results they got were really good. Mine were not. Two things: a) it took a number of coats to cover the black filler I used, and b) in spite of taking extreme care in painting, the finish was not smooth and required a considerable amount of sanding and in doing so, the black filler remained visible. ... show more

I've used the red gray and black in the pass best sandable primer in a spray can you can buy, but on this project the car is going to be white so l wanted to use a white primer bot happy with the white at all doesn't cover good it's like there's hardly any white pigment in the paint takes 6 or 7 coats to cover were you patched, I'm happy with all the other primers you make just not the white ... show more

I wanted to test out the actual color of the Duplicolor Metalcast Smoke so I got an old juke mirror with a "chrome" plastic cover that had scratches on it and did a quick degrease and sand job (about 5 minutes total for both) just to give the surface a prep to hold the primer and paint. This stil left the original scratches that were too deep for the quick sand job I did. I followed the instructions and applied three light coats of the primer with about 10 minutes between each coat. This primer is great! By the time I applied the third coat and let it dry for 20 minutes, it was still smooth and had completely covered the scratches on the mirror cover. I did not sand this but immediately went to the Smoke Metalcast with the same three light coats 20 minutes apart and then three light coats of clear 10 minutes apart with no sanding. The portion of the mirror cover that I painted looked fantastic with very little prep. This primer definitely fills in the small stuff and allows you to make a much quicker paint job or touch up. If you're willing to take the time to do the wet sanding on the primer, it can only look even better. I highly recommend this product. ... show more

I use this for light filling and priming of items I'm painting, and this is about the best I've seen. Does light filling and smoothing of surface, give it a day and can sand it to glass like surface. Highly recommended.
