I started playing acoustic guitar recently - and for the record, I am more of a rhythm player / strummer. My first guitar was one of those combo box guitars that come with everything - guitar, amp, picks, strap etc - for a few hundred bucks. After I played on that a while I wanted to get a nicer, more advanced guitar. I ended up purchasing a Taylor 114ce Acoustic Electric. Anyway, when I first got my guitar home I noticed that while doing some basic strumming of chords with a pick (most notably G and D) my guitar was giving out this echo-y reverb-y sound that was highly noticeable and didn't sound right. Almost as if a small crash symbol was being played as well. I was disappointed with the sound and disappointed with my purchase. I didn't know what to do... Was it the strings? Was this guitar not meant for rhythm guitar style playing? Then I realized - those picks that came with that combo box guitar (that I was still using for my new guitar) were very plastic-y, very hard. I started wondering if the picks were the culprit. I started doing some research for picks that were good for rhythm guitar / strumming. I found out about the Dunlop Tortex picks so decided to give them a shot. I decided to pull the trigger on some smaller / lighter ones as that seemed to be a recommendation if you are a strummer. I ended up trying out the .60mm gauge - on the lighter end, but not ultra flimsy... Once I started playing with these IT MADE A WORLD OF DIFFERENCE! I can't stress enough how much more amazing my guitar sounds when I play. Chords are bright, full, crisp - and most importantly - that annoying reverb sound is gone. These picks are durable, light and smooth. All my guitar needed was a more delicate touch. I am extremely happy with my purchase. Come to find out, the Dunlop Tortex .60mm is the same exact pick that Dave Matthews uses - and I can totally see why! Don't underestimate how much the right pick will have on the sound of your guitar with your playing style! I purchased these Dunlop 418P.73 Tortex® Standard, Yellow, .73mm, 12/Player's Pack and find them very useable and the surface texture seems to be made to allow a good sure grip. I find the pick to be small, not a bad thing as my smallish donald hands are more adept with a smaller pick. If you also have a small hand, give them a try. This pick is stiff and produces a crisp sound maybe to one liking if control and a stiffer pick is more to your liking. I like them well enough for four stars. ... show more

This is the first time I've bought a Dunlop product, and the last. I really don't need my fingers turning black every time I play the guitar. Edit: Added a photo. I played with each of these picks for a few minutes, all the ink came off on my fingers. HOW IS THIS EVEN A THING?!?

As and electric guitar player I prefer the heavier picks such as 1.0mm or heavier. I used these years ago and recently started playing again. Shipping was super super slow I guess because of covid-19. In the meantime I ordered some Fender Extra Heavy celluloid picks on eBay. Now I have both and I think both are really good picks. The Fenders are a little heavier and slicker. But I do like the texture of the Dunlop Tortex picks. However I think if you rough up the Fender picks with some sandpaper they might be slightly superior to the Dunlops. But both are top notch pieces of plastic. ... show more

Nice solid pick. 1.14mm Purple Tortex. I have heard good things about them, but I have been playing with a medium to thin pick. Lately I decided to up the attack a bit and go with a heavier pick. Great choice. Good attack, good feel great tone. I have a literal bowl of picks of all different sizes, and brands. But for the time being, these are my obvious favorites. I have been using the same one for several weeks while noodling around on several of my guitars, all with Regular Slinkies, and no wear is showing at all on the pick. These picks are just stellar and I cannot say enough good things about them. I do wish they lasted a little longer but, it is what it is! I've since moved to Jazz III max grips and .73 sharp tipped Tortex (Yellow picks with the 3 bars). But from about 2001 to maybe 2013 (?) I used NOTHING but these picks. For any style of music. I still buy them by the 72 pack. Obviously! But I haven't been using them like I used to. If I'm gonna plan on playing a "summertime" song, these are my go to. Then the .73 Sharp Tip EB are the in between for that and picking, then I have my Jazz IIIs which, I use the most nowadays. It took a bit to get used to strumming with them, but they work if you work em! I use these for parts that are single note line riffs, etc. OR solos. (If the pick's attack fits the solo as well. Which it usually does. EB made a GREAT thing (Tortex). I do wonder what a REAL Tortoise shell pick feels like though. Probably snake oil. But these picks are a no brainer. If you are on the fence and looking at these, I'm here to tell ya, go for them! You won't regret it I promise! ... show more

I used the point 60 for 22 years and I wanted to start useing a pick that was a bit stiffer it kinda moved around in my hand for a wile till i got used to the pick you have to hold it tighter in your thumb and finger becuse its stiffer but I like it now that Im used to it Dunlops are the best most pros use them and many use thiker pick than me I may even try some thiker ones again to see how they improve my attack ... show more
