Description

Duets for All enables any two instruments to play duets. Not only may two like-instruments such as two flutes play together, but two dissimilar instruments such as violin and tuba may perform all of the duets. The duets cover a wide range of styles and music from baroque through contemporary eras, and they range in difficulty from grades I through IV. • Boring Melodies and Harmonies
Pro: This book series appears to do what it promises - permit many different combinations of instruments to play 2 parts together. That's a great idea. Cons: 1. The melodies are not very melodic. The exercises in a standard first year student exercise book (e.g. Essential Elements Book 1, or First Division Band Method) are prettier and more melodic. 2. The harmonies are not very harmonious. Again, when first year student exercise books have duets or trios, there harmonies are often prettier. The worst example in this book is "Leaping" where part 1 and part 2 are in unison for the entire piece, with 2 exceptions: the parts are in different octaves, and one part will start each measure with an eighth rest and an eighth note, while the other part starts with a quarter note (but on the same pitch, off by an octave). In summary, these books offer the technical musical exercise of playing with another person, but the pieces are incredibly boring and not something someone would actually want to listen to. ... show more
