Whether you want to teach yourself or have an art teacher, you have all the supplies you need to do all sorts of sketches with this set. I feel like a lot of these mini components alone could be a pain to find, or get pricey. Keeping tools like this organized really saves a lot of fuss in the long run. There may be a few colored pencils included, but this is more for creating sketches with the pencils or charcoal- black and grey. I appreciate that the charcoal comes in a mini box, as it can get messy. The case is perfectly portable and zips up easily. Inside the case, there are little pieces of elastic that help hold down things like the pencil sharpeners and erasers. There are so many components in here that are new to me, but I am excited to learn to play and create with them. There is one sharper item inside that I still don't fully understand but I believe it is the charcoal sharpener. It is placed on the left side next to charcoal pencils- long and slender- I almost thought it was a protractor folded up at first I have used charcoal sticks in the past without any sharpener, and jut use the corners and freehand. I just wanted to note that this sharpener is a bit sharp and should be maybe even taken out completely if this is going to be around children! Ultimately, this set is targeted more toward adults. (If wanted to give to a teen or child, it is at your own discretion. I would say teens and above). The pieces in this help for fine detailing, and may take some research if you are a beginner. The sketchbook that comes with the set is a bit too big to actually go into the zipper pouch. If you put a notebook into the pouch it may get some residue from the charcoal- so it may not be the best idea. Also, it may not be able to withstand expanding. I like to keep things as compact and together as possible if I am traveling. I am not the biggest fan of the looped wire binding of the book, but it helps the pages stay in place. The pages themselves are thick and the right material for the charcoals. You can also apply a decent amount of pressure down on the pages with the tools. I really like these pens! They are vibrant, and I like the case they’re kept in. The one drawback for me is they aren’t numbered/ don’t have names, so it’s hard to know which is which for a swatch. I had to manually number each individual pen.
