  • Dry Packs Silica Gel Desiccant, 40gm Work As Described
I have a Samsung French Door refrigerated that I love in all ways but one, the crisper drawers on the bottom collect so much condensation that anything you put in them spoils before it should regardless of whether or not you line them and change the lining often. Doing an internet search will prove that I am not the only person that has had this problem with this refrigerator, so I'm sure it's some type of design flaw in the fridge. I purchased four of these 40g desiccant dry packs because I hoped to be able to recharge them. I expected them to last at least several weeks to a few months as others here have suggested they worked for them, but also realized that I might be asking too much of them with my refrigerator. Although I was skeptical about the recharging I decided to give it a try. I put two in each crisper drawer and found that the two that were in the drawer with the fruit and veg went green in about a week or so, but the drawer stayed completely dry. There wasn't even any build up on the paper towels I line the drawer with. The other drawer I tend to keep cheeses and deli meats in and the packs in there only began to slightly turn to green in the same time. Last night I put the two that were completely green in the oven for the prescribed amount of time and they did, indeed, turn orange again and are back in the fridge keeping my produce fit to serve. It will be interesting to see if they will last longer in the same place now that I've gotten the humidity in the fridge down. I don't suggest hard handling for them because the little boxes are a cheap metal that is quite thin. Otherwise, these do exactly what they say they will do. I recommend them. ... show more

  • Work Well, Double Up for Volume
This kind of pack is rated for 3 cubic feet. I have an 8.1cu.ft. gun safe and bought 4 of these for it. Ambient humidity is 65% but these take it down to about 50% (that's what you'd hope for in this case). This performance is along with a safe heater which circulates the air in the safe. Since the safe is opened briefly about twice a day, the packs saturate and lose effectiveness after about 2 weeks and need reactivation. I don't think they're really fully effective past 2 weeks. I'd recommend at least doubling up for your needs, and maybe quadrupling if you're going to be opening whatever you're putting these in. I'd say if you have a 3cu.ft.container which will almost never be opened, two of these is good. If you're going to be opening it once in a while, get 4 and plan to recharge them every 3 months. The silica beads are NOT as bright orange as in the picture. With the plastic window always picking up glare it can be very difficult to accurately gauge if the beads have turned green or not. Once you're sure they have, it is very easy to recharge them and they do seem to regain effectiveness. I'll be upgrading to something bigger since I don't even think 8 of these are enough for something 8cu.ft. that will be opened often. ... show more

  • How dry I am
I recently purchased a safe for my office in which to keep some important papers and a few portable USB drives. I noticed, when selecting my safe from Amazon, that there were some desiccant packs displayed on the same page, which I thought was curious. I investigated and found that flood proof safes are notorious for holding IN moisture as well as keeping it out. I read a few reviews of safes where people complained that some old documents were actually destroyed in their new safes because the owners locked their stuff in and didn't check on it for months. Do that on a quite humid day and you're locking all that humidity in your safe, along with your copy of the Guttenberg Bible. So, at the same time I purchased the safe, I got a couple of these 40 gram silica desiccant packs. They came nicely sealed in a plastic wrap. They seem smaller than the photo would make them appear, but size matters in safes! The smaller, the better, as long as the desiccant does its job. So far, after a few weeks of rainy weather and multiple openings of my new safe, the first pack seems to be doing the job. My papers are fine, the silica hasn't changed color yet, and I have a fresh one, still in the plastic wrap, ready to go into service if duty calls. ... show more

  • I am very pleased with the performance of this little pack
I bought this desiccant pack to place in my (2 cu. ft.) safe after I noticed a musty smell and what appeared to be mold or mildew growing on some paperwork. I throughly cleaned the safe and its contents, let it air dry, and then put everything back in place along with one of these 40gm desiccant packs. Ten days later, I opened the safe to remove some documents, and checked the pack while I was in there. All of the orange "crystals" (or at least the ones visible in the little window) had turned green. I popped it into the oven at 280Β°F for a little over two hours and the crystals were orange again. I promptly returned the pack to the safe. Two weeks later, I checked the pack and the crystals appeared to be halfway between orange and green. So far, I am very pleased with the performance of this little pack. It seems to be working as advertised, including its ability to "recharge", and my safe no longer has a musty odor. I was a little surprised by how small it is (I didn't pay attention to the dimensions in the product description); it's nice and compact with a low profile so it doesn't take up much room in the safe. Photo attached with U.S. quarter for scale. ... show more
