I've tried a couple brands of these OTC devices plus tried the real deal prescription type a few years ago. Essentially, they all do the same thing but I've been happy with the performance of these in light of the price so far. My comments below reflect my own experience with my own hearing loss problems and they may not perform the same way for your own hearing issues. 1. What these do well are improving your hearing/conversation ability in a quiet environment. 2. I like that they come on immediately when you insert them in your ear (and saving your last settings). 3. They are useless listening to the radio in the car because the road noise and AC sounds are also amplified. 4. They are useless in a busy and loud environment. 5. The buds are extremely difficult to get out of the case but they are great in my ears. 6. The sound settings are very easy to adjust and understand. 7. The lights on the case and the devices don't match the lights mentioned in the directions. The only useful lights to me (while the case is plugged in) are the blinking blue light on the case when it's charging and the solid blue light when it is finished charging. There are no lights telling you what's going on when you insert the buds back into the case so you're flying blind on the charge status of the buds. 8. I haven't worn these for any length of time yet so I don't know how long they last in a real-world all-day environment. The takeaway, I'm happy with my purchase (so far) as long as they do what they do well and last for a reasonable period of time. I'll update with any radical changes in performance. ... show more

    • Surprisingly good hearing device.

I'm an experienced hearing aid user. My high-end BTE (behind the ear) hearing aids quit working and decided to take advantage of the OTC hearing aids the FDA now allows. I purposely sought out the ear bud/pod type so that it wouldn't be apparent whether I was listening to music or using a hearing device. These are great when I watch TV. I'm one of "those" old codgers that the family complains about having the TV blasting so I can hear it. With these I can turn the TV down so low that other family members can't hear the sound level - but I can! Pretty cool. I really like the volume control on these, but one the other hand it's annoying when inserting the pods into my ears because you can help but touch the volume control which causes me to need to adjust the sound every time I put them in my ear. By default they save the volume setting from the last time they were worn, but as I say, the volume gets reset when inserting the aids into the ear. Also, you can turn the aids off by holding your finger on the volume for 7 seconds. However, the only way to turn them back on is to insert them into the charging case and removing them again. Not a game breaker, but a tad bit inconveniencing. Also, these things are powerful, they pick up ambient background noise as well as the human voice and TV. Air whooshing in the background, circulating fan noise etc., but in defense of hearing aids this is a common issue that your brain adjusts to after a few weeks. All-in-all, for the price, I would not discourage anyone from choosing these. Would I buy them again. Yep. ... show more

Hard to beat for the price. There is no such thing as a perfect hearing aid; it will never be as good as your hearing used to be. My husband received his new hearing aids yesterday. His hearing had been getting worse and worse over the last 50 years. It's amazing that something so small and so inexpensive could make such a big difference. He had been watching television with the volume up to 100 and still not make out what was being said. This morning he had the volume on 20 and could hear just fine. He could hear me at a quiet or normal volume with my back to him. He said that they only squeal briefly when he puts them in. He only has static when he touches them. I can see that these hearing aids will be a life changer for both of us. I was leary of buying "cheap" hearing aids. Mine were $1000 in addition to insurance. I know this may not fit the actual definition for a miracle but it seems like a miracle to me. He says he doesn't even notice he had them In. This device was purchased for my Dad. I was skeptical at first because of the design-my Dad had always work the wire piece that wraps around the back of the ear. Wasn't sure he would adapt to this new sleek design change. I was wrong! He loves the design and the whole touch sensor to control the volume. He says it works wonderfully and does exactly what he needs it to do-hear without a bunch of background noise. The product is easy to use and works great. I use them in meetings, at social gatherings where there are low talkers, etc. The simplicity of the volume control makes it very handy to quick adjust.
