  • Great for Large Breeds
Style: Nail Grinder Pattern Name: Original Kit
Just received this item. The thin clear bag covering the drill in its box was open but nothing appeared used. The tip of the drill was already assembled and had guard on. Other small accessories (bits and extra files) were sealed in a small clear bag. The drill arrived with enough charge for me to test it out on my older lab’s nails. It’s great so far! She usually runs away but stayed laying down as I drilled switching often from one nail to the other so I don’t create too much friction that she feels a burn. The nail dust flew in the air and there was a slight smell but nothing alarming. Her nails were pretty long and often split or I cut her at least once when trying to clip them. This worked great. The “smoke” you see is nail dust that needs blowing out from time to time or the drill locks up. Makes sense to me. I took off the guard a time or two to blow everything clear and would easily start again. If there’s a smell, it’s likely the high speed that would smell up many surfaces, especially when it comes to a living being. Don’t stay on one bail longer than a few seconds. I’d just hold her paw in my hand and grind away switching nails quickly back and forth. There was still a slight smell but that seemed normal to me coming from nails. The guard does not seem to want to click into the 3rd and lowest level but I think that’s fine for a large bread. I won’t need that setting often. I’m happy. I used it on all 4 paws and still need to do more over the day but the drill is charging. Now to see if it lasts over a month or three as I’ve read some complain in their reviews. I’m hoping mine is the majority that people just tend not to leave reviews on because it’s working fine. This is the answer to many years of searching for some way to cut down my lab’s nails without having to pay someone… Even then she’d come home with a broken or bloody nail. So grinding is definitely the answer for my older pup. No regrets on first used. Thumbs way up. ... show more

  • Good, but......
Style: Nail Grinder Pattern Name: Original Kit
Good, with a couple of caveats. I'm not sure why a long-existing company like Dremel can't quite get this tool right. I bought this to trim my large dog's nails. I'm right handed and I hold my dog's paws with my left and the Dremel with my right. The first issue is that it blows nail dust right into my face and onto my hand. I fixed this after the first use by removing the allen head screws, removing the two wires on the motor and reversing them. Better! There's a video online of how to do it. I wish it had a better range of speeds. #1 is too slow. #2 is about right. #3 is a little fast. #4 and #5 are way too fast. IMO, they really didn't design the speed control to grind a dog's nails. I took off the guard and use the 60 grit wheel. Overall, I like it much better than my old, 7770 Dremel. ... show more

  • Pampering Paws: The Gentle Path to Pet Grooming with Dremel
Style: Nail Grinder Pattern Name: Original Kit
Pet grooming - an endeavor that's often met with apprehension by both pets and their human companions. Memories of my furry friend's anxious stares and jittery paws always made me reluctant to even approach nail trimming. That's when the Dremel PawControl Dog Nail Grinder and Trimmer came into our lives, reshaping our grooming experiences. The unboxing was promising. The device's design seemed thoughtful and ergonomic, fitting comfortably in my hand. Its cordless nature meant there were no pesky wires to get in the way, and the rechargeable feature assured me of its longevity. But the real test lay ahead. With some trepidation, I approached my canine companion, Dremel in hand. To my surprise, the device's quiet operation didn't ruffle his usual calm demeanor. The absence of the loud buzzing noise, so characteristic of other trimmers, was indeed a relief. The grinder's gentle rotation ensured that the nail trimming process was not only effective but also painless. The adjustable speed settings allowed me the flexibility to approach more challenging nails with precision. And for those uncertain moments, the safety guard was a godsend, ensuring I never went too far. One of the standout features was the battery life. Multiple grooming sessions later, the Dremel PawControl still held its charge, making it perfect for those impromptu grooming decisions or even travel. That said, like all tools, there was a learning curve. Initial attempts required patience and a steady hand. But with time, both my pet and I grew more confident, turning grooming sessions into bonding moments. In conclusion, the Dremel PawControl Dog Nail Grinder and Trimmer is not just a grooming tool; it's peace of mind in a sleek design. It stands as a testament to Dremel's commitment to delivering a humane, safe, and efficient grooming solution for our beloved pets. Whether you're a novice pet owner or a seasoned pet grooming professional, this device promises a gentle and effective approach to paw care. Here's to happier pets and even happier pet parents! ... show more

  • Much easier than clippers!
Style: Nail Grinder Pattern Name: Original Kit
For a very fussy dog, this has made life a lot easier. The sanding pad needs to be replaced fairly often, and that is the only reason for a slightly lower rating

  • Almost Worked for our Dogs
Style: Nail Grinder Pattern Name: Original Kit
We have two dogs that are resistant to nail trimmings. Appears somewhere along the way a groomer got too close to the quick and the dogs don't forget. Picked this up and one dog is resistant but okay with it after a few seconds and lots of peanut butter. Our older one is really shy and acts like she's being tortured. Have a new groomer that suggested we engage her with it more often and at small depth. And that's the nice thing about this trimmer is the depth and speed can be adjusted to minimize perceived trauma. It's just going to take consistent repetitive use to acclimate the dogs to it. Haven't given up yet, still working it. ... show more

  • Best Nail Trimmer I've Owned
Style: Nail Grinder Pattern Name: Original Kit
This is easily the best and easiest to use nail trimmer I've owned. I got my dogs used to the slight noise slowly at first so they don't mind it and this thing zips through their nails like butter. So much easier than other trimmer/grinders and without the worry of cutting them too short with clippers. ... show more
