Description

The Maple is a women's steel-toe boot with plenty of technology, like a contoured memory foam SoftWair sock-liner with a moisture-wicking lining — and now comes with a medial zip. It all began near Munich, Germany in 1945 when Dr. Klaus Maertens injured his foot in a skiing accident in the Bavarian Alps. To make walking easier during the healing process, he designed a shoe with an air-cushioned sole. Using old rubber tires, he constructed soles that had air trapped within closed compartments. He showed his prototype to his engineer/inventor friend, Dr. Herbert Funck, and together they decided to develop and produce the shoes. Not only did the shoe solve the doctor's immediate problem, but it also started to sell well in Germany. By 1959 the two founders decided that they needed a company to produce and distribute the shoes, then called Dr. Maertens, in other parts of the world. At first, many manufacturers rejected the concept of an air cushioned sole as a short-lived gimmick. However, the R. Griggs Group, located in the village of Wollaston in England, decided to go along with the idea by creating the first work boot with the revolutionary sole. On the first of April 1960, the first cherry red eight-eyelet work boot was produced and named 1460 (1/4/60). To sell the brand name better in England, the name was anglicized to Dr. Martens. The range was branded AirWair and the rest is history. • PERFECT BOOT IF YOU WANT TO WEAR STURDY, PROTECTIVE DOC MARTENS FOR AIR TRAVEL
Size: 4 Color: White Milled Nappa Leather
I ordered, and received, a White pair, US Size Women's 5. Better than a pair of sneakers which will not protect your feet from being stepped on. Additionally, if your sneakers are made of cloth or some kind of canvas your sneakers will not keep your feet dry in winter/rainy weather. And....ugh and euwww....your canvas sneakers will not protect your feet from becoming polluted during your trips to the airplane bathrooms (ugh...dirt, human waste, germs). Doc Martens are my ultimate choice: Instead of sneakers (even leather ones), I got these comfortable platform zippered-closure Doc Martens in the colour white. These totally comfortable platform Doc Martens are a perfect solution because they are super easy and fast to put on and get off while going through inspections by TSA. These Doc Martens look smart. They give that polished, stylish, neatly put-together look and vibe while you are traveling....by air, train, or sea or during that long road trip. I have several pairs of Doc Martens (all of them platform models). This particular pair, like all my other pairs of Doc Martens shoes, is very comfortable, cradles my feet, supports my ankles, and can be worn all day and night. They also give me that extra appreciated height, giving me that desirable long-legged look. I got this model of Doc Martens (with the zipper in front) especially because I want to be comfortable on an airplane and be able to quickly and easily take off my shoes and as quickly and easily put my shoes back on when going through TSA inspections and lines. They might feel heavy at first, but at 81 years old, I can still trot/run in these shoes to catch a flight. For travelers....airplanes...these shoes are a surefire way to avoid wading around on the often sloppy floors of airplane bathrooms (euwww). Perhaps you've read that news about a lung haul flight having to turn back because a passenger defecated "all up and down" in the airplane. Imagine having to walk through that stinky mess in other kinds of shoes. You will wish you had on a pair of platform Doc Martens to "rise above the crowd". These shoes are made of high-quality, strong leather and built on a sturdy sole that can easily and quickly be wiped down with a damp cloth/towel or even rinsed off if someone vomits on your feet or spills/splashes yuk-poop stuff onto your feet. Just go for them....you'll be glad you did. These shoes arrived in record time and were well-packed. They come in several colours so you aren't limited to getting them only in elegant white. ... show more

  • These are the best boots ever! This should be your first (and maybe last) Docs!
This is my 8th pair of Docs and these are the best. The leather is so soft, there is very little breaking in time though I'd still only wear them a few hours a day at first because the heel cup is still rigid. The leather is very nice and matte. The product image has grainier or more textured leather--which is what I wanted--but I'm not too disappointed. These look and feel fantastic. With other Doc boots, the area around the ankle will still be a little stiff even after years of wear. This is no big deal because it's not uncomfortable and if you need the protection (like riding a motorcycle or stuff at work), it's nice. However these are very soft around the entire ankle from day one. They actually move and flex a bit. I can't tell you how nice this is! I know there is a lot of complaining about UK-made versus China-made docs. At this price point, obviously this is the China-made version. However, I think the quality and value is still excellent. The craftsmanship in the UK-made boots are noticeably better. However, will the China-made ones hold up? Absolutely. The construction is still the same in principle. Did it ever dawn on people that a big part of the price difference between the two is because UK wages are much higher than the Chinese labor--which is why they are mostly made in China? I can't fault DM for making a sound business decision 90% of shoe manufacturers do. (Redwing, Nike, Adidas, Uggs, Etc). The soles are great, darker than the other ones that look more clear and like hot glue. This tread pattern is the best. The other heavier lug sole tread kind of have a logger-look and make the boot look clunkier. I have both, and this is a good all-year tread. The only Doc boot I have that is more comfortable is probably the Rigal. However, it's more like a basketball shoe than a boot. Also, for me the sizing is way off (they run big) and they get a little hot inside. Inside, the footbed is super comfortable. Now these are boots. All boots get a little hot, unlike super-breathable mesh running shoes. But compared to other boots, these breath okay and are simultaneously water-proof. If you need more arch support--like many people do--SuperFeet makes a half-size plastic supplement for shoes. It only goes to the middle of your foot to the heal and it's very thin. It would not take up much of the foot room which can be adjusted anyway with the laces. It makes a remarkable difference and you can get few more hours out of these if you stand all day. It is a hard plastic device so do test them out first in stores. Mine never slip. I love these Carpathian boots and I think you will too. If you are looking to buy your first pair of DMs and you don't want them to be shiny, these are the ones. They won't kill your feet the first 10 times you wear them and they look awesome! ... show more

Size: 8 Women/7 Men Color: Dark Brown Crazy Horse
I AM OBSESSED!!! I have been eyeing these boots for a long while now and am beyond pleased with overall quality and next day shipping. The zipper is detachable via the eyelets and the laces have a bit of a stretch to them but still feel snug when tied. So far ive had no pinching or rubbing in my heel or toes. (Though I've had them for a very short time) I will give a more accurate update in about a month to three months. But as of right now, BUY THESE!!! 🫶🏼✨️ FOR REFERENCE: The ones I purchased are the worn matte brown leather with the zipper down the tongue. ... show more

  • Great Boots: Wide Feet Buy 1 size up
Great Boots: Wide Feet Buy 1 size up! Short review: if you have wide feet, and are a man, buy one size up from the recommended size. Wear them around the house for a week. After a week, the leather will break in around the heel and rub/move. Buy a Dr. Scholl's gel insert for work boots, trim to fit, and you have the perfect size boot. Long review: I have wide feet. I take an 8.5 EE, this size fits perfectly in the Timberland Earthkeepers 8.5 EE, but in the Rockport boots I take a 9 E. So shoe sizes vary and I understand that. I'd give the boot five stars, except I now have an expensive mistake. I went with the advice on Doc Marten's own website and the Amazon sizing guide, and bought a UK 8 which is the equivalent to a US 9 Medium. This has worked for me with a number of shoes. A number of reviewers have said the shoe runs "wide." I can only presume they have narrow feet or are women buying the men's style shoe, given that even women with wide feet will have narrower feet than men with wide feet. I've worn the boot too long to return them, in a vain attempt to "break them in." I will just have to sell them elsewhere I guess. On a hunch, I bought a size large (i.e. a UK 9, not a UK 8, which is equivalent to a US 10 Medium). Fit great, until the heel as noted above broke in and the leather around there started rubbing up and down. A quick trip to your favorite Large-Mart superstore and for $10 Dr. Scholls had me covered. Perfect fit. I like boots, with large toes I tend to get movement up and down the heel with a low cut shoe and with a boot you can dial in by lacing the upper part boot movement in the heel to an astonishing degree. Doc Martens are also VERY comfortable once broken in. Yes the Air Ware is old technology, so are V8 Engines, rear wheel transmission (featured on half a million dollar supercars like Bugattis and Ferarris) and other proven stuff. With the Doc Martens alone, absent the gel inserts, I find them at least as comfortable, maybe more so, than the Timberland "anti-fatigue technology." It is important to be clear what Doc Martens are, and where they work well for people. They are essentially a dress work boot for concrete and other hard surfaces. They were originally sold after all to UK factory workers and British Postmen, who love them. The patent leather gives them a dressy look, and polish allows you to keep them clean and neat. If you are on your feet a good part of the day on hard surfaces like me you'll appreciate them. Doc Martens don't have the aggressive tread that works so well in Rockports or Timberlands in ice, snow, mud, and muck. If you are looking for a boot for back-east Mud season, look elsewhere (I live fortunately in Sunny Southern California). Docs do alright in the rain, in getting you in and out of puddle-strewn parking lots. They are not waterproof like some Timberlands and Rockports though. Docs look nicer, are more dressy, and more rock-and-roll than Timberlands, the favorite of rappers and (in one Seinfeld episode), George Costanza. Fashion-wise, yes girls like them a lot, but so does Penn Gillete the magician, who wears them in his Vegas shows. Docs being a dress work boot, have a fully gusseted tongue, unlike most Timberlands and Rockports. I have a pair of Carolina Logger workboots with the same feature. This will press down on the top of your foot until the leather softens up, and is a feature of all good workboots. Which have the gusseted tongue to keep out debris and dirt from the inside of the boot. This is why I suggest for wide feet people, break the Docs in WITHOUT THE GEL INSERT first, and then when the heel starts to move put the gel insert in so the tongue is already broken in and does not press down hard on your foot. I would recommend a thick cotton crew sock. These socks can be found almost anywhere, are cheap, and easy to replace when they inevitably wear out. No need to go with a pricey wool sock. They are easy to wash too. Docs go well in a dress casual environment, and can be in a pinch paired with a suit for a rock-and-roll dressy look, much better than say Timberlands which are strictly jeans/khaki casual. Just remember, if you have wide feet, go one size up from the recommended size. ... show more

  • Love these docs!
Size: 10 Color: Black Milled Nappa
A flurry of packages has been going back and forth between Amazon and me. Trying to find a pair of doc martens I really love, trying to figure out what size will fit (their shoes are wildly inconsistent and in one style you'll need a 9 while in another you'll need a 10 and so on), returning a pair in the wrong color...and so on. I decided I was going to give up if this pair of Sinclair's wasn't right for me. Fortunately, it passed muster. True, there are issues. The 11 is HUGE on me whereas this pair of 10s is borderline too tight (why no half sizes, Doc?) but dammit, I'm keeping 'em. And, on NO size have I tried has the zipper fit me, so I'm just leaving it open. That said, I otherwise love them. They look badass even with the flower buckles and I love the platforms. I'm 61, a Doc wearer since probably before you were born, and "back in my day" there were no platforms. I just love them and now will only wear platforms because they feel lighter somehow (and these boots are quite heavy!) Anyway, despite the issues mentioned above, I love them. They look great with jeans and even some dresses or skirts. They're simple yet have a touch of uniqueness to them. Can never have too many Doc Martens. ... show more

  • They are super comfortable & warm; I love the style. They are super comfortable & warm; I love the style.
Size: 7 Women/6 Men Color: Saddle Tan Farrier
The fit: These boots are true to size and only comes in whole sizes. So - if you are in between sizes, size down for more of a fitted boot to prevent your feet from sliding around in the boot. I had my doubts ordering a size 7 (normally wear a 7.5), but I am glad I did since once I break them in they will loosen up more. How to wear them: honestly, you can pair these boots with any outfit and pair of pants no matter the style. However, given they are sherpa lined boots I would recommend wearing a breathable pair of thin style socks such as athletic walking socks unless you enjoy sweaty feet. I am wearing a pair of skinny jeans with a slim leg opening which allows the pant leg to tuck in without any overlap. I do plan on wearing them with a bootcut jeans and flare jeans. Whatever works best for you; i just hope this advice if helpful for someone. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ solid five star pair of boots. ... show more
