The 2976 Chelsea boot has all the toughness, fit and ease of use as its Victorian predecessors plus killer style. It serves up all the signature Doc's details like iconic stitching, grooved sides and heel-loops. Built to last, this unisex boot is forged using one of the finest methods of construction: utilizing a Goodyear welt and heat-sealing it to the sole. The 2976 is made with highly durable leather and sits on an AirWair sole, which is oil and fat resistant with good abrasion and slip resistance. Use Dr. Martens Wonder Balsam to protect the leather and keep your boots clean, soft and supple. Dr. Martens is the stuff of legends. It all began near Munich, Germany in 1945 when Dr. Klaus Maertens injured his foot in a skiing accident in the Bavarian Alps. To make walking easier during the healing process, he designed a shoe with an air-cushioned sole. Using old rubber tires, he constructed soles that had air trapped within closed compartments. He showed his prototype to his engineer/inventor friend, Dr. Herbert Funck, and together they decided to develop and produce the shoes. Not only did the shoe solve the doctor's immediate problem, but it also started to sell well in Germany. By 1959 the two decided that they needed a company to produce and distribute the shoes, then called Dr. Maertens, in other parts of the world. At first, many manufacturers rejected the concept of an air cushioned sole as a short-lived gimmick. However, the R. Griggs Group, located in the village of Wollaston in England, decided to go along with the idea by creating the first work boot with the revolutionary sole. On the first of April 1960, the first cherry red eight-eyelet work boot was produced and named 1460. To sell the brand name better in England, the name was anglicized to Dr. Martens. The range was branded AirWair and the rest is history.

Very cute and decently warm. I am typically a size or 7 or 7.5. In euro sizes, a 37 tends to fit me better than a 38. I have a very narrow foot. According to Dr Marten's size chart I should wear a 6 and with the reviews and Amazon saying they run large, I ordered the 6. They were too small and very tight. One of my toes was rubbing the inside of the top of the boot. I returned for the size 7. Still snug (but I was also wearing them with thick socks) but fit is much better and no rubbing. Mine did need some break in time and continue to feel better and better the more I wear them. I wear a 7.5 in Blundstones, my feet were swimming in the 8s. They were also snug at first but perfectly hug my feet now, so I'm hoping that's what happens with these. On a side note, I have struggled for many years to get a black Chelsea boots that I like and can easily style. I've sent so many shoes back or never wear them. THESE are so cute and easy to style and look natural on where I've either felt unnatural, too dressy, or too clunky in other black boots. ... show more

My 90s self would be so proud of this purchase, as a Gen X I think we get to claim Dr Martens as cultural heritage. I love the look of this boot. I love the fur lining, they are comfortable to wear, and they can be styled with different outfits. I’m really thrilled with this purchase! But I STRUGGLED with the sizing of these shoes. I’m a 7.5 and I generally prefer a tight fit for my shoes, I hate feeling like my foot is floating around in a shoe. But I also need the shoe to be comfortable. So I really struggled with what size to get. Dr Marten’s website recommends ordering a size down.i measure my foot. At anround 9.6 in I should have been good with a 7. And there is a lot of information on the web about how to break in Dr Martens and since they are leather, they are supposed to loosen up over time. I read Amazon reviews about other’s experiences. Most 7.5 people ordered the 8. My husband just bought himself a new pair of cowboy boots and exchanged them for a smaller size because leather stretches. And he broke his boots in and advised me to go smaller. So I ordered the 7. I followed the recommendations about breaking them in. Plus there’s faux fur lining and I figured the fur would flatten out with use. I basically wore them in the house for a little bit at a time and put a small water bottle in the shoe at night to help stretch out the toe box and the dorsal foot piece. There is no insert in this version of Dr Martens with the fur lining, so disregard that. Some people said taking the insert out helped break them in but it must’ve been referencing a different style of shoe. After a couple of days my right foot was still tingling and sightly squished, so I panicked and decided I’d ordered the wrong size after all, and ordered the 8. I put the 8 on and my toes were immediately happier but I have pretty thin ankles and my ankle were now swimming around in the boot. The length was a little too big. My foot was moving a little bit. The socks were falling a bit and the ankle boot was rubbing my skin. They just looked bigger clunkier and oversized. Not as cute as the 7s. I figured if the leather broke in and the fur flattened out they’d be even bigger. I went back and forth multiple times on which size to keep. I finally decided on the 7. I dug in to the breaking in process and a few days in I’ve noticed an improved already. I’ve been in them all day today and I’m fine. It was a process. Buying shoes on the internet is not easy. This is legitimately the best footwear purchase I've made in a long time. I've had these carted forever and on a whim one night finally ordered them. I'm so mad I didn't buy these sooner. They have all the appeal and timelessness of a typical Chelsea boot, but with some classic Dr Marten style. And the furry lining is such a bonus for both comfort/warmth and style. It makes these boots stand out a bit. These fit as expected. I absolutely always wear a 10 and the 10 fit perfectly. A bigger size would have been a mistake. I've worn these with both thin and thick socks and the fit feels great either way. They were also totally comfortable out the box which is amazing. I did wear them the first few times with thicker socks like bombas, so I'm sure that helped there to be no rubbing while I broke them in. While the fur keeps my feet toasty warm on cold days, I also wore these on a 65° day and I was not too hot. I know the price tag hurts a bit, trust me, but this is a quality boot that will last years. That sole is indestructible and the style is classic. Truly, I can't say enough about these. In all honesty, Docs sizing is.... weird. Got these in an 8 (my usual size for Docs) and a 9 because others mentioned these run small - they do, and I assume it is due to the lining. Tried on the 9s first, they fit with regular-weight Darn Tough socks. If I tried thicker socks they'd feel too tight, so here's hoping they are as warm as advertised. The 8s never made it out of the box and will be returned. If 9.5 existed I would be tempted, but a 10 would be too big. They are comfortable. The lining is soft and feels warm. I do expect they'll stretch out a bit with wear, as that's what leather does (🤞) and I don't think these will need the same break in period of old school Docs like I wore waaaay back when. Putting them on and taking them off is easy. I'm glad I decided to just get them. ... show more

It's mostly cold where I live so I can wear these faux fur lined boots Fall through Spring. I love the look! Sometimes I don't want to wear a snow boot or hiking boot but need warmth and grip and these give me a more stylish look. Wore these one day and by the end of the day it was rubbing at the top of the boot on my skin even though it has faux fur. Need to break them in. The sole of the shoe never hurt though. Thinking I should wear with jeans in teh beginning so my skin isn't so raw. Also, I'm usually a size 7. I have narrow feet and ankles but I hate when my toes are tight so sometimes I size up to accommadate essepcially if I wear winter socks with boots. I sized up to the 8 and it's perfect. No tightness and since it's a boot it wont fall off even if it's a little loose. ... show more

Comfortable right out of the box! I've worn them every day since I got them, including quite a bit of walking as soon as I opened the box, and they're extremely comfortable. The lining makes them warm, they fit perfectly with standard athletic socks, and they're easy to tug on in a hurry. I am a 9, I wear a 9 in these with standard-thickness athletic socks. It’s been a long time since I’ve bought Doc Martens, and I was hesitant to purchase them again. I still had painful memories of wearing clunky doc martens in my early 20s and the process of breaking them in for weeks and having painful blisters. I loved the look of doc martens but was looking for something slightly more subdued and comfier then my previous boots. It also gets extremely cold here in winter so being lined is a necessity. These appeared to check all the boxes! When they arrived I was immediately impressed with how gorgeous and well made they looked and felt. Although they have the typical clunky doc marten style, they don’t make my feet look huge either. Being a size 10, I’ve had the issue where clunkier boots can make my feet look like clown feet. These thankfully do not do that. The fur inside is a nice addition, but don’t expect them to replace your Ugg’s, they are more comfortable then traditional Doc Martens but they are still somewhat stiff. As someone who often experiences heel blisters with shoes, I felt the backs rubbing on my heels the first couple wears and immediately purchased some gel heel pads to stick inside from Amazon. They are now much more comfortable and I haven’t had to go through any breaking in with these. I also get a ton of compliments on them! ... show more
