  • The perfect baby bottle
Style: Newborn Feeding Gift Set
This is the go-to gift set that I give to people who have just had a baby as the other sets Dr. Brown's Original Bottle Gift Set, 8 Ounce, Blue come in only one size and only with Level 2 nipples while the newborn set has: (3) 8 oz/240ml Standard bottles with Level 1 nipples (2) 4 oz/120ml Standard bottles with Level 1 nipples (2) extra Level-Two nipples (2) storage/travel caps (3) internal cleaning brushes for the vent At first glance, the extra pieces, namely the internal vent system, can drive a new parent to drink but I find that those complaints go away when you have a baby who is less colicky and suffers from less gas discomfort. (The newer version Dr. Brown's Options Bottle, 8 Ounce, 4-Pack even allows you to use the bottles without the internal vent system.) This set came highly recommended to us from our son's occupational therapist. On top of having issues with colic and gas, he also had severe reflux that needed modifications to his diet even when he went from breast milk to formula, the way he was being fed and held, etc. Our son also had trouble sucking and the bottles that "simulated" a natural latch proved more difficult. Before these, we tried Medela Breastmilk Bottle Set - 5 oz - 3 ct and the Medela Calma Breastmilk Feeding Set, 5 Ounce because we were using a Medela breast pump. You can actually use the Dr. Brown's bottles with most breast pumps as well though some require extra adaptors. The Medela nipples were just too fast and made his reflux and colic worst. We then tried Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature Anti-Colic Bottles, 5 Ounce, 2 Count (Packaging may vary) which were better for reflux and colic but trapped breast milk and formula at the bottom of the bottle. To deal with the extra pieces from the Dr. Brown's set, we tried both the Dr. Brown's Universal Drying Rack before settling on the adorable and more useful Boon Grass Countertop Drying Rack,Green and Boon PATCH Countertop Drying Rack, Green and we used the Dr. Brown's Deluxe Bottle Brush, Blue because it comes with an interior cleaning brush in the handle. ... show more

  • The only set of bottles you need!! The only set of bottles you need!!
Style: Newborn Feeding Gift Set
Mom of two whose tried many bottles~ This is the only bottle set my kids have needed. I have two kids under 2. Both have used Dr. Brown bottles with no problems. Many folks recommend buying several types of bottles for your newborn and testing each of them out. I say if they fail Dr. Brown, then try the other types. Reflux: My first child had a huge issue with reflux/burping/throwing up. She’s two now and it is still not fully resolved. She has used Dr. Brown bottles and they seem to be the best out of the several that we tried. With my second child, reflux was never an issue. This bottle was simply her preference. She seemed to drink more out of the Dr. Brown bottles compared to the generics. For most of the generics, the flow was too fast. With Dr. Brown the flow was good, she used the original level 1 nipple until 3-4 months, then transitioned to 2 around 5 months and is now at level 3 at 7 months. There was limited air going into her. I would always burp her after every feed. Sometimes she’ll burp, other times she won’t. The burping is a lot less when I use the Dr. Brown bottles compared to the generic bottles you get at Walmart/Kroger. Sizes: I love that the set comes with several size options. We used the 4 oz bottles for a very long time. With my first child, I only transitioned to the 8 oz bottles at 8 or 9 months. With my second we transitioned to the 8 oz bottles at around 6 months. My kids are smaller compared to other children. Cleaning: Dr. Brown bottles are never easy to clean. They come with a small brush which has come handy for several things. I put them in the dish washer almost every other day and have had no issues. The plastic is still in good condition. I attached a video of the different parts. Leaking: We used this bottle for >6 months and have had very minimal issues with leaks. Of course it will leak with vigorous shaking or if something is not properly connected. However, 99% of the time everything is simple and there is no leaking Markings: easy to see and clear!! Pumping: connects easily to the pump!! This is a great way to save time Overall: I highly recommend this set! ... show more

  • Fabulous bottles and way worth the effort
Style: Newborn Feeding Gift Set
I bought another brand (NUK) first for my newborn - he was using the ready use enfamil bottles the hospital provides for the first few days and was eating 2-4oz at a time. Then we ran out and started using the NUK bottles and almost immediately my baby got severe gas - spitting up, gas, diahhrea constantly, fussy, not hurting well and finally by day 3, he wouldn't even take the bottle and spit the nipple out immediately. I was a total wreck and sobbing bc he wouldn't eat. So we put two and two together and bought more of the ready use bottles he likes - turns out the NUK bottles nipples were WAY too big and allowed entirely too much airflow. Of course this was not a long term solution so we had to find actual bottles.. We ended up ordering these Dr. Brown bottles with amazing reviews and similar size nipples to the ready use bottles. Every baby is different of course, but he immediately loved these Dr Brown bottles just as much as the ready use ones. Yes, there are a few extra pieces and yes, it takes longer to clean so my suggestion is premake 4 or more bottles and it won't be near the pain. However, to see your baby not have super painful gas and eat as he should be vs not at all is well worth any extra time or effort. ... show more

  • Great for preventing upset tummies, no leaking problems
Style: Newborn Feeding Gift Set
We have been using these Dr. Brown's bottles for a year now and are really pleased with them. Our nanny or my husband uses them to give breast milk to our son when I am at work during the day. We tried both these and the Breastflow bottles when my son was about 5 weeks old, and although he was (after some encouragement) willing to take both types of bottle, we found these simpler to use. (To give one example, we kept having to remove the milk that was getting stuck between the two nipples on the Breastflow bottles, but there's no problem like this with the Dr. Brown's.) We also thought that the venting system was really helpful in reducing the amount of air baby gulped in when bottle feeding - we had fewer problems with gas pain and didn't need to burp him too often with these bottles. (Obviously, this is less of an issue now that the little guy is a year old, but it was really helpful when he used to get so upset about needing to burp.) Though these require a different latch/sucking action than breastfeeding does, we have never had any 'nipple confusion' problems. All babies are different, though, so you may want to try a couple of different types of bottle to see what works for your baby. One other advantage of these bottles (or of ANY standard, non-wide-neck bottles) is that the neck of the bottles is the exact same size as the bottles that come with Medela and Spectra pumps, so you can pump right into these bottles and save yourself from having to clean the pump bottles. (These bottles are taller than the Medela pump bottles, though, and too tall to fit in the bottle cooler that comes with the Medela pumps, so if this would be a problem for you, you either need to stick with using the pump bottles or find a taller cooler.) Here are my attempts to clear up a couple of issues raised in other reviews: 1) A few reviewers here mentioned problems with leaks, and at least in some cases, I am sure the problem is that they aren't using the included travel disks. When you are toting the bottles around, you need to put the travel discs under the nipples to ensure the bottles are sealed and won't leak in transit - simply putting the cap over the nipple does not seal the bottles! Refer to the owner's leaflet that came with the bottles, as it has a very simple diagram showing you how to use the travel disks. You must remove disks before feeding baby, though, as they really do completely seal the bottles off. When you are using the bottle for feeding, make sure you have pulled the nipple firmly into the collar of the bottle and twisted the collar firmly onto the bottle and you shouldn't have any problems with leaking in that case either. The ONE problem we had with leaking in the past year of regular use of these bottles was when a nipple got warped - you could see the slight wave in what should be the flat base of the nipple. Unfortunately, our sitter didn't notice this until she went to retrieve the bottle from the bottle warmer and saw that over an ounce of milk had oozed out of the bottle as it was heating. :-( Once we replaced that nipple, we never had another leak problem. This has only happened with one bottle nipple in over a year of using our Dr. Brown's bottles regularly, so I am very happy with how these bottles have held up. 2) It is true that this set doesn't include a bottle brush, but it DOES include a smaller brush (or maybe 2 smaller brushes - I can't remember now) that is perfectly sized to clean the little vent parts that go inside the bottle, and which is also handy for scrubbing out the nipple. Many have mentioned that it's a bit of work to clean all the parts of these bottles, and it's true that the extra little parts make for some extra work. On the upside, the parts are well-engineered to make it easy to get to all the crevices with the included brush. Also, even if you have to wash the bottles by hand, I think it's worth the work to prevent a gassy, fussy baby! But if you really don't want to bother, just buy a couple of the dishwasher baskets: Dr. Brown's Standard Dishwashing Basket, Polypropylene and put all the parts in them! All the parts, including travel disks, nipples, vent parts, etc., (except the bottles themselves, which can go into the dishwasher on their own) fit perfectly into these baskets. We bought three of these baskets when we bought more bottles early on, and it has definitely been worth this small expenditure when we consider all the cleaning time we have saved in the past year. Pro tip: if you have a fast letdown, like I do, you might want to try using the faster-flow level 2 nipples instead of the newborn ones that come with these bottles. At the recommendation of our lactation consultant, we switched to these almost immediately, and our baby liked these bottles better with the level 2 nipples. We still use them now - never saw a need to switch to even faster-flow nipples. (If you don't have a fast letdown, your newborn may feel like he's drowning with faster flow nipples, so you will have to determine which works best for your baby.) All in all, these bottles are easy to use and help prevent gas and stomach pain in your newborn. They are also pretty easy to clean, especially if you buy a few dishwasher baskets. I highly recommend them. ... show more

  • Excellent for preemies, but don't let it fall over (even with the lid on securely)!
Style: Newborn Feeding Gift Set
I had originally hoped to breastfeed exclusively, however because my son was born almost 6 weeks early, I was told I needed to fortify his breastmilk with special formula after he finally came home from the NICU. This meant I had to first pump my breastmilk, then mix in some formula & use a bottle to feed it to him. At first we tried Avent bottles, but quickly realized that those seemed to contribute to the already long list of things that upset his premature tummy. We tried everything: gas drops (before, after & mixed into the bottle), feeding him sitting up & keeping him upright for at least 30 mins afterwards (this was especially difficult at night), tummy massages, cutting back on the harsh formula that contained so many extra nutrients & minerals ... we even tried mixing THAT formula with a gentler kind & then adding it to my breastmilk. Still, my son would scream & cry after every feeding. It broke my heart! Finally, another preemie mom told me to try Dr. Brown bottles so I bought them right away & had them shipped same day. Immediately there was a noticeable difference. My son still has some issues since his poor little digestive system has to work so hard, but at least now I don't dread every feeding. I would highly recommend these bottles to anyone, especially those with a premature baby or a baby with a sensitive stomach. Edit: While these bottles are wonderful for my son's tummy, just don't ever let one spill! I've taken one star away for that because... augh! They do come with little caps to put on under the lids when traveling, but when you're just sitting down feeding your baby & you set the bottle aside to burp him, DON'T let it fall over, even if the lid is on securely! If the lid isn't on, it will spill everywhere. If the lid IS on, it will spill everywhere & you just won't find out about it until you turn the bottle upright & formula pours out of it onto you & everything around you. Incredibly frustrating. Please let me know if you found this review helpful, as I rely primarily on others' reviews before making my own purchases as well ☺️. ... show more

  • Best Bottles Ever! Saved my baby from painful gas.
Style: Newborn Feeding Gift Set
Best bottles ever! When my son was born I tried to breast feed but he had a terrible latch, was a lazy eater and I was barely producing 4oz a day, off the bat we had to supplement with formula. He was so gassy and would arch his back and push and try to pass gas, burping and spitting up after every ounce. When we switched to just formula a few weeks later it became worse and we were both sleep deprived. At first I tried vent air bottles and they only helped a little, drop in bottles had the same result and then I saw on a mommy blog that Dr. Browns bottles were the best for reducing air and inturn gas bubbles for baby. I was skeptical at first, I thought they would only help with breast milk and formula has a different consistency. However, I was wrong these were the best bottles ever! I am in love with them. I have about 8, 8oz bottles and 8, 4oz bottles. The only tip I have for formula users is to premix the formula before you pour it into the bottle if you use powder. Here is what I do, I mix up 20oz of formula in 2 blender bottles so a total of 40oz and refrigerate them. Then when I need to make a bottle I pour the formula into a Pyrex glass measuring cup, microwave it for 30-40 seconds depending on the amount and your microwave. I stir it, test the temp and then pour it into the bottle. The powder can get stuck in the blue part in the middle of you don't premix the formula but it's really not bad only a little and isn't the end of the world, I just find it easier then trying to clean out dried formula later. My son is now almost 4 months old and no longer suffers from excessive gas, it stopped the first time he was fed from these bottles! ... show more

  • GAME CHANGER for our GERD preemie
Style: Newborn Feeding Gift Set
We're first-time parents who originally purchased another brand's 4oz glass bottle set. Our daughter took to them right away, but was often gassy, spit-up, etc. As a physician (who only sees adults), I figured that this was "normal" reflux for our IUGR preemie as she was overall a happy baby. By week 2, however, her gas and reflux were so bad she couldn't be put down without constantly regurgitating and writhing around in pain... Soon, she was screaming 21 hours/day, feeds became impossible (it would take 1 hr just to get her to take 1 oz), bowel movements involved hours of torture, and she started losing weight. We tried every behavioral change imaginable, different bottles, and over-the-counter remedies... NOTHING worked aside from us holding her upright 24/7. At that point, our doc prescribed her ranitidine. I hated the idea of giving her a prescription at 3 weeks of age, so as a last resort, I bought these bottles... and oh my goodness, she became a different child within minutes!! In her first feed, she polished off 5.5 ounces and instantly fell asleep in her crib (which we have on an incline). Before then, the most she ever had was 2 oz and the second I'd put her down in the crib, she's start hiccuping, refluxing, screaming, etc. Since then, she is feeding like a champ, sleeping well, and is one low-key happy baby despite having the occasional bought of reflux. We never ended up giving her the prescription med, as these bottles and a few behavioral modifications have really helped. Finally, we have our sanity back and are sleeping again! CONS: They are difficult to clean if you don't do so right away as there are many small parts. I also really dislike having to put the extra insert to prevent leaking when you take the bottle somewhere. You also can't mix the formula in the bottle, but that's a simple fix as we mix a batch in another container and then fill these bottles up. Finally, they are not made of glass (my personal preference). However, given that our lives were a NIGHTMARE before these bottles, I'd gladly take these inconveniences any day. In short, if you are in the same boat as we were, might as well give them a try before throwing prescription meds at your kiddo. ... show more
