  • Good Fit, a little taller than original. (See Pics)
Good Fit, a little taller than original. Use a hammer to knock the old one out of the base. Use a pipe wrench (like shown in my photos) to twist the small cylinder as you tap the bottom of the chair. Size and Fit was a big concern for me before ordering. I took photos with calipers to help you, the potential buyer, know what the dimensions are. Rate helpful, if this is helpful. :) ... show more

  • Easy to install replacment office chair gas cylinder...
Our Quill Hazen office chair had a base recall, they sent a replacement for it and the chair began to lower on its own while sitting in it. We're not sure if we accidentally hit the center of the original cylinder or if we had exceeded the weight allowance, as I'm around 220lbs and our toddler will sit on our lap at times and he's around 40lbs. Due to the cylinder not remaining at our desired height, I began searching for a replacement cylinder that would hopefully last for at least the duration of the chair, with us having a growing child. This cylinder caught my eye, due to the weight allowance and 5 year guarantee, and placed the order. This gas lift cylinder included the gloves pictured and a business card that says to search for instructions online on how to replace the cylinder. The included gloves are of decent quality and have been added as a keeper in the toolbox, which have already been used for projects since changing the cylinder. Removing the current cylinder is easy enough using a rubber mallet or hammer and a wrench or a pair of vice-grips. This is a slow and steady project and should not be rushed, otherwise you might break something in the process and will need to replace even more. 1. Raise the chair to the maximum height (this makes step 4 easier). 2. Lay the chair on the floor. 3. Using a rubber mallet or hammer, hit the outer ring of the current cylinder, not the inside, while holding the wheel base until the 2 become separated. 4. Using a wrench or vice-grips, rotate the cylinder where it connects to the chair until it disconnects. You will more than likely need to go different directions to fully get the cylinder to release from the base of the chair. If using vice-grips, its easiest if they're applied at a horizontal direction and you're able to push from the top downwards. 5. Place the base of the chair, where the wheels are located, in the upright position (the direction that it will be once the chair is fully assembled). 6. Insert the large end, non-red cap, into the center of the wheel base. 7. Remove the red cap from your ToolKee gas lift cylinder replacement. 8. Place the chair on top of the gas lift cylinder and wheel base. This took approximately 10 minutes to install, due to getting everything ready to take the old cylinder out, doing the removal, installation and cleanup. We've had this for almost a month and have not had any issues, even though we have a little director of operations that likes to periodically give himself a raise, while sitting in the chair. I would definitely recommend this gas lift cylinder as a replacement to any office chair, as it was easy to install and can support quite a bit of weight. • Leaked Within a Week
Color: Black
Within a week, with this cylinder installed, the seat sinks down a part of an inch a few times each day (eventually bottoming out) -- just like the old one I replaced. At least the old one lasted a year or two. ---------------- Update: It is now about 9 months since I purchased this crappy product. When you sit in it, it now sinks from wherever you position it to a fully bottomed out position in less than 30 minutes! It also sinks down completely in less than a day just standing there with nobody sitting in it. I think this is very close to the most worthless product I have ever bought from Amazon. Please stay away from this product and probably from this manufacturer. ... show more

  • NO MORE SINKING CHAIR!
Color: Black
My office chair had started sinking - what can I say, I'm not 115lbs and I don't have $500 to spend on a "good" chair (and I wanted a white chair instead of a black chair, so there were few options anyway), so I'd bought whatever $100-ish chair I found at the office supply store. But every day I would slowly sink, multiple times a day, which was annoying af and wreaked havoc on my posture. Bought this thing, figuring it was cheaper than a new chair. It was a little bit of a pita to install - I gave it to my husband to install, and he stained the carpet with oil gunk or whatever trying to pull apart the chair and the old piece, so don't do that [goo gone took out the stain, pro tip]. But that's not the fault of this cylinder, it just is what it is. Once the old chair was uninstalled [that was the hardest part], this went right on. And now, it's been months, and my chair hasn't moved a bit. Still adjusts up and down if I want it to, but stays put! Thank you for existing, heavy duty little chair cylinder! ... show more

  • Great price and works just like it should
Great price and works just like it should...can't believe I waited so long to replace my sagging lift from my chair. Install was straight forward. 1. Liquid Wrench, WD40 spray Spray overnight around the wheel base and lower chair where the old lift sits. 2. Med size mallet Flip the chair over.....give the lift a few shots and it should slide out. 3. Plumbers Wrench Use the wrench and place and lock it around the smaller end of the lift (the one connected to the lower part of the chair) little elbow muscle and the lift will turn breaking it's seal and it will come out. 4. Place the new lift in the wheel base. 5. Put chair on it's side allowing you room to slide the top of the lift. Once done lift the chair upright..double check it's stable. Then sit and enjoy. Steps 4 and 5 can be flipped...whichever way you prefer. Done! ... show more

  • Not exactly easy to install, but that's the fault of the chair!
Color: Black
My chair was an all-wood desk chair from Ashley furniture. It took all of my strength and the heaviest tools I have to batter the original gas cylinder loose. In fact, I couldn't get the base off at all w/ a rubber mallet. I figured it would be easier to get it in a vice if I removed the top fastening first (to the chair). I had to jump up and down on my biggest pipe wrench to get it free. Then, I took the base and cylinder into the workshop and had to pound the thing so hard, the original cylinder came apart inside the chair before if would break loose from the chair base! I was already half-way to calling it quits and buying a new chair, so I swung for the fences and it took my largest metal hammer to the knock out the fat part of the cylinder. So, get ready for some heavy work to do this. Cover the base and protect metal and wood surfaces as much as you can, because there will be damage if you slip. Wear gloves! I'm not sure it was worth the money saved, but we'll see what the wife say when she sees the scratches. ... show more
