After getting a check engine light on my jeep wrangler , I was able to read to code and found it was a P0128 code indicating the engine was running cooler than expected. This could indicate a thermostat that was stuck open. To further verify that the thermostat was the culprit I used my ODB2 scanner to monitor the coolant temp. With the engine idling in my driveway, the original thermostat was cycling the coolant temp between 190 and 200 degrees which seems a little low for the 3.6L Pentastar engine as that thermostat should just start to open at 203 degrees and reach fully open near 215 degrees. My cabin heat, while ok, was also just not as hot as I was used to. This thermostat install is a relatively simple procedure and there's already a gasket installed on the replacement. I cleaned up the mating surface on the engine with a green scrubby pad to help insure a leak free seal. I also used a small bicycle sized torque wrench to reinstall the bolts and torqued to 105 inch lbs. This is just a little over 8 foot lbs - don't get these mixed up. So the bolts are snugged up nicely but do not need to be cranked super tight. With the new thermostat installed, the coolant temp is now cycling between 200 and 213 degrees. The P0128 code is also gone, and the cabin heat is back to its normal "nice and hot". Make sure you have the proper coolant to add back in to your radiator as you will probably lose 1/2 gallon or more minimum. ... show more

Great product, if you have a jeep expect the thermostat to go bad between 90–100k It will give you the code P0128, engine running to cold, easy replacement it took me about 30 min, there is great tutorials online.

I received a PO128 code indicating that I have a bad ECT sensor (Engine Coolant Temperature) or a faulty thermostat to be replaced, which eventually led me to purchasing this thermostat. I started with the easiest of the two, being the ECT sensor, swapped it out without any issues until roughly 5 days later when the PO128 code reappeared, now indicating I needed to replace the thermostat. The reason I didn't get a CEL code immediately is because when you do a small repair such as replacing the sensor and thereafter erasing the codes, the computer in the vehicle which stores all of this information, sometimes takes roughly 50 starts before it can identify that there is still an issue, so this was completely normal. The thermostat arrived the next day and was properly packaged, and new I might add. The process was easy and only took about 20 minutes. Utilize some videos on Youtube as there are several out there that will be beneficial if you become unsure about anything. Once the install is complete, it's important to know that you are NOT FINISHED. Because you have now invited air into the cooling system, it is crucial you get the air out. You can use the relief valve on the thermostat to get some of it out, but you will also need to purchase a coolant system bleeder kit which run about $20.00. Again, don't be intimidated as this process is super simple and once again, utilize some of the videos on Youtube to help walk you through the process, if you're not familiar with it. I bought this to get rid of a P0128 thermostat Code, replaced the old one and the next morning I drove to Walmart 3 miles away and in the way back the alarm/PING began to go off. By the time I was able to safely stop the ALL the coolant had spilled from an area by the side of the engine due to damage resulting from overheating. Towed the Jeep to get that expensive problem fixed. And guess what the mechanic said “I fixed the problem that caused the leak, but the Jeep is overheating”, “the thermostat is bad”. I’m so upset that I didn’t get an original manufacturers recommended part. I did get the manufactures recommended coolant and a kit to burp the radiator. 2000 plus dollars wasted for buying a low quality item. ... show more
