After reading all the glowing reviews about long battery life I bought one. Apparently they have changed the light over the years because this one goes for 11 hours and becomes a night light for another 12 hours or so. I tested it twice with fresh batteries. It doesn't get anywhere near the advertised 70 hours. On fresh batteries it's pretty bright but the new bulb arrangement puts more light in your eyes than downward. I have purchased several dozen of these and they are bright but not blinding. Easy to install 4 AA batteries and has an on/off switch. No variable brightness settings. Simple to use. I have been using one every night for nearly 10 months. The only complaint I have is with the last shipment. The lanterns were simply placed in a box and shipped without regard to protecting them. The box was dropped and the globe on one of the lanterns broke. The light still worked but I cannot give this as gift. I noticed packaging is very poor or non existent recently. ... show more

An awesome product! I bought these for a something special for my young girl's for a backyard camping night. They LOVED them! They give off great light, as other reviews say, and I picked them over other options because they are plastic. My girl's have dropped them and there are no cracks or breaks, only a battery slipped out of place - slipped it back in and they were good to go. I'd like to eventually buy more to keep on hand for emergencies. I definitely recommend them! ... show more

I'm ordered this lantern to use on my back patio. I didn't want anything huge and super bright as the patio isn't that large. This lantern is approximately the same height as a soda can but almost double the diameter. It puts out an ample amount of white light. Not so much as to disturb the neighbors but more than enough to read by. Its very lightweight, which gives me concerns about its durability but I don't intend to go running through the woods with it so I'm thinking it should be fine. ... show more

We bought these little Dorcy lanterns a few years ago for our Hurricane Bin - but everyone likes them so much, they "disappeared" - gotten used all over - for the closet with no inner light, by the kids who went camping, the grands for a sleepover, out on the porch in the evening, in the back yard, a few are in the hall closet "just in case". So I had to replenish the stock this year - these lights are VERY bright. I even had one about 5 years old - with a little corrosion on the spring - washed with a bit of coke - and it works just fine. ... show more

DIFFERENT STYLE. They altered this lantern, for the worse, making it smaller and changing to LED lighting. The light now is fainter and more like neon, very white. It comes from a short round bulb at the base, so the light does not emanate out the sides and top as a glow but rather is like staring at a naked light bulb. As another reviewer noted, very uncomfortable. It may have a longer life than the style they were selling just a few years ago, but nowhere near as good and you wouldn’t want to sit around reading or talking with this light nearby. I bought this for my shelter-in-place weather emergency supplies. It's very lightweight, yet it doesn't seem flimsy at all - that's good. However, the light is blinding, even when seen out of the corner of the eye. As best I have been able to figure out, I have a choice of hanging it above head level (not an option for me) or setting it on the floor or a low stool for area light. I have a good supply of small flashlights, to light my way around; I got this because I wanted to be able to read, fix simple meals, wash dishes, use the bathroom, etc when the power is out, but it doesn't look like it's going to be really practical except for the last. ... show more

This is such a great little product My lights were out a couple hours after I received these and They were just great bright lights.. Have had a Dorcy Flash light for years and when I saw these were made by Dorcy, purchased them and my daughter is going to orders some and I have ordered 3 more they are GREAT and good price .. an asset camping, Hurricane, when lights go out and just soooooooo many uses...
