  • Wonderful keyboard. Wonderful company
Set name: Reddish Brown 88 key keyboard & Bench
What can I say about this company? They are great. Every single instrument I have ordered from them has been top-notch. This one, however, had a problem. We contacted them, and two days later, a replacement was at our door. Who has customer service like that? Wow! The sound is great. So easy to set up. Perfect for beginners and those who have played for a while. I will say, my daughter was putting together the stand for me--and she later told me she was going nuts trying to put it together. My husband said the instructions aren't always clear. But it didn't take much time at all to assemble it. I cannot say enough about this company. Thank you, Donner, for putting music back in my house. ... show more

  • 🎹 Surprisingly Good Digital Piano for the Money
Set name: Reddish Brown 88 key keyboard & Bench
I’ve played enough real pianos to be pretty particular about how a digital piano feels and sounds, and the Donner DEP 1S is an impressive little setup for the price. The 88 key velocity sensitive keyboard is one of my favorite features. The five levels of sensitivity give you noticeably more control over dynamics than you get with a basic keyboard, which makes it much more useful for someone who actually wants to develop proper piano technique rather than simply play around with presets. The piano sounds are also quite good. The grand piano voice has a natural character and responds nicely to changes in playing pressure. There are also electric piano sounds for when you want something different. The included adjustable X style stand and sustain pedal make this a complete setup right out of the box, which is particularly convenient for beginners. The included learning stickers are a nice touch for someone just getting started. I also like the built in recording function. Being able to record a performance and listen back is genuinely useful for practicing because you can hear things you might not notice while you're playing. The USB connectivity adds another layer of versatility for saving and playing back recordings. And despite having a full 88 key keyboard, the overall setup doesn't feel overly imposing in a room. Overall, this is a very capable beginner and intermediate digital piano. The realistic sound, velocity sensitive keys, included accessories, recording capability, and full size keyboard make it much more than a basic electronic keyboard. 🎶 ... show more

  • Perfect for a beginner
Set name: Reddish Brown 88 key keyboard & Bench
I got this piano keyboard for my daughter to learn how to play the piano. It certainly beats purchasing a piano for thousands only to find out that she doesn't want to keep playing it. It is also much easier to store a keyboard than it is to have a full size piano in the living room. The keyboard set is certainly a budget set, but provides everything needed for a beginner. The keyboard comes with a little bench, a double X frame stand, a power supply, and some labels for the keys. Setup for the frame is very confusing. I figured it out, but the instructions are of very little help. The stand is a little larger than needed for the keyboard, the bars stick out a little on all 4 corners. I would have preferred if it was fitted to the keyboard and had little fingers at the ends. The keyboard is heavy, but that's to be expected for an 88 key. I would not let my daughter carry this on her own. There is not case included, so you will need to purchase one separately. The voices for the keyboard are.. decent. Some them aren't that great, but given the price point, it's okay. There is no 1/4" jack, so this cannot be used with a PA without an adapter. It does have 4 1/8" jacks that can be used for headphones for some reason. There are 2 placed in the front, and 2 in the back. I'm not sure why the back ones are labeled as "Phones" and "Out", they seem to do the same thing. The keyboard really seems like its trying to be a fine piece of furniture, without it ACTUALLY being a fine piece of furniture. This thing is made of cheap laminated wood all over. The keys have a weird texture that I imagine is supposed to mimic wood. There's nothing wrong with this, however, given its price point. Once again, this isn't a $10,000 piano. It's a $200 keyboard trying to give you a "$3000 piano" experience. I don't really care what it looks like, as long as it's functional. I just figured it was worth mentioning because it's obviously a selling point for them, which I do not understand. As far as the playing experience, this keyboard is decent for the price point.. again. The keys are weighted and react to the way you play. This is something that's very welcome in a budget set. I suppose some of that feel would transfer to playing a real piano. The most important part is that my daughter loved this keyboard. It got her to practice every day so far and she's having a blast playing it. Later on, she can upgrade to something better if she feels like doing so. This is working great for her right now, and I'm very happy with it. ... show more

  • Fantastic for a beginner!
Set name: Reddish Brown 88 key keyboard & Bench
So far, I am really happy with this keyboard kit! I am completely new to piano, so I specifically wanted something budget-friendly that would give me pretty much everything I needed to get started without having to piece together a bunch of accessories separately. This set definitely delivers on that. You get the full 88-key keyboard, stand, sustain pedal, learning stickers, and even a bench, so you can basically set everything up and start practicing right away. As a beginner, I think the keyboard sounds fantastic. I obviously cannot compare it to some super expensive professional digital piano, but to my ears the piano tones sound full and really nice. The velocity-sensitive keys are also a great feature for learning because you can start getting used to playing softer or harder instead of every note coming out at the exact same volume. The keyboard itself also looks really nice. I got the reddish brown version, and it has a much warmer, more furniture-like appearance than the typical plain black keyboard. It does not look nearly as cheap as I expected from a beginner kit. My one real complaint is the bench. It is functional and I appreciate that they include one at all, but it is definitely not winning any awards for comfort. After sitting on it for a while, I was already thinking about replacing it with something more padded. It is perfectly fine for getting started, but if you plan on practicing for longer sessions, I would probably budget for a better bench eventually. Overall, though, I think this is a fantastic beginner setup. It gives you basically everything you need in one box, the keyboard sounds great to me, and I did not have to immediately go shopping for a stand, pedal, or other essentials. For someone just starting out like me, I think it is a really solid value. ... show more

  • Good for absolute beginner, but maybe not for more experienced players
Set name: Reddish Brown 88 key keyboard & Bench
I must say, this digital piano looks really nice out of the box. The wood veneer finish is very pleasing and would look great in any room. The piano tones also sound good to me and do replicate many acoustic pianos quite well to my ear. I am a beginner/intermediate player, for reference. What I don’t like, is the texture of the keys on this piano. They are not smooth, and I’m not sure what the manufacturer was going for but my other Donner digital keyboard has smooth keys, as does my antique upright Yamaha acoustic pianos. Note that both the black and white keys are textured. Now if you are an absolute beginner and never touched a piano before, you might not have the same reference as me. However, I can’t get used to the key surface feel. The rounded finish to the key edges could have also been better. See my picture, attached. The second thing which is not my preference is that the sustain pedal sound has a slow volume modulation which I notice and is not like my acoustic piano sustain. I find it weird. Again, an absolute beginner might not know the difference, but for me, I find it an odd effect. Keep in mind that many beginners don’t even use the pedal yet, so again, they might not know the difference. However, learning and using the sustain pedal is quite important to smooth, pleasing playing on piano and everyone should learn to play with one u less you are playing in a very rudimentary way. To be fair, this is marketed as a beginner piano. So could you learn piano basics and get started on piano with this model and then switch to something better later? Absolutely! However, the same manufacturer has a similarly priced model with no included bench, smooth keys, a decent sustain sound and which ( in my opinion) is much better. And yea, if you want to plunk down an extra 5x or 10x the cost of this set to Donner or another manufacturer, you are quite likely to immediately notice the difference and also probably like it 5x to 10x more. I do like the layout with minimal electronic setting panel. Like my other Donner keyboard, however, I don’t like the fact that settings, like the volume level, are not “saved” at power off. I always play at a much lower volume than the default volume, so this is a constant adjustment for me every time I turn it on. Still, this is ok for kids or absolute beginners to get started at a very cheap price. But you might also take a look at other similarly priced Donner options for better performance. ... show more

  • A lifelong dream finally came true
Set name: Reddish Brown 88 key keyboard & Bench
Ever since I was a kid, I've wanted to learn to play the piano. Life has a way of getting in the way, and somehow here I am at 51 years old finally getting my first keyboard. I honestly couldn't be happier, and I'm so glad I chose this one. Even before you play a single note, it's a beautiful instrument. It has a clean, elegant design that looks fantastic in my home office, and it pairs perfectly with my Donner electronic drum set. Together they make a great-looking music corner that finally gives me a place to start learning. The keys feel great for a beginner like me. The velocity-sensitive keyboard gives enough feedback that it feels like a real instrument instead of a toy, and the piano sounds are rich and enjoyable to listen to. Whether I'm practicing scales or just figuring out simple songs, it's been a lot of fun. I also appreciate that it comes as a complete package. Having the stand, bench, sustain pedal, and learning stickers meant I could get everything set up and start playing right away without having to buy a bunch of extra accessories. The recording feature is another nice touch. As I improve, it'll be fun to record myself and hear how much progress I've made over time. Pros: beautiful modern appearance, realistic piano sounds, responsive velocity-sensitive keys, complete beginner kit included, comfortable bench, recording function, easy setup, excellent value, pairs nicely with other Donner equipment. Cons: the included X-style stand works well, but as my playing improves, I could see myself eventually upgrading to a furniture-style stand for an even more permanent setup. Overall: This keyboard means more to me than just another piece of equipment. It's something I've wanted since I was a kid, and finally making that dream a reality has been incredibly rewarding. Donner built a fantastic instrument that's approachable for beginners while still feeling like a quality piano. I can't wait to learn new songs and see where this journey takes me. ... show more

Really wanted this to work. Great looking but sound drops out randomly while playing. I thought Donner was a decent brand, but maybe not.
