  • Wonderful value for the price!
I'm not really picky about guitars that are a bargain and this one certainly is a great bargain. Just think of how many hundreds or thousands of people were needed to make a guitar like this. The wood, rosewood, basswood and maple had to be harvested, cut and shaped. The metal parts like the bridge, the tuners, the pickups and wiring had to be mined from the earth, refined and processed. The paint had to be made from resins, colored to the right color and shade. Then the painted parts had to be polished by hand to a high gloss finish. The parts were then assembled with skill to make a guitar of really good quality. The tuners have to be tightened and the fret ends have to be filed a bit because they have somewhat sharp edges. Check on Youtube to see how easily this is corrected. The intonation was almost perfect and the action was set to a medium height. I am not really sure why buyers expect a perfect guitar when even the ones costing hundreds have issues. The completed guitar come from thousands of miles away and are subjected to heat, cold, dry air and humidity in shipping - but most make it into your home okay. Don't even ask about what kind of strings are on it because they are pretty good and a new set only costs about six bucks for a good set. It does have a Stratocaster tone so the pickups are really pretty decent. I just tried it clean with no overdrive so far, but I think this guitar is a real bargain for the price. Don't be wuss! Learn how to setup and care for your own guitar. It's very simple and fun - just be careful, make sure you have learned what you need to know and use a lot of TLC in handling it. If you do, then a guitar like this will last you a lifetime plus. Not sure what this "beginner guitar" stuff means, but it is a ridiculous term - the guitar does what it is supposed to do regardless if is played by a newbie or a pro. It basically all depends on your skill, pedals and amplifier. If they all suck, then you will too -it's not the guitars fault! Thank you Donner! Nice product! Note: I just wanted to affirm that there are only three spring holes in the tremolo block, but the spring claw has five hooks. I also noticed that there are pre-drilled dimples where the other two springs would mount. So if you have a drill press, you could drill the holes with the proper size drill. Not sure why Donner would do that? Maybe to save on production costs or perhaps limiting the pressure on the body wood to a workable string gage to10's and below to keep the basswood body from breaking out? It's okay as "is" but one wants to take a chance, you can always replace the bridge with a vintage 5 spring Fender bridge. ... show more

  • Surprisingly Fantastic Quality!
Style: ST-30 INCH Color: Black
Seriously, this is really good. Like better than some beginner guitars at guitar center. Now in order to get this to a pretty nice setup, it did require a lot of adjustment--but guys, it HAS ADJUSTMENTS! I changed all the intonation of each string, I lowered each string independently for optimal action, I raise the pickup for higher sensitivity. The strings are going to be so easy to play for my 4 year old daughter. Now it doesn't have an adjustable truss rod, but it's made so well, it doesn't need one for now, hopefully stays that way. The practice amp was super garbage, but they always are. But it's got a USB-C rechargable battery and belt clip, so hey what's not to love there! ha! Gig bag is very nice, the tuner works, comes with all the starter accessories, no brainer. It has 11 gauge strings on it, I've got it tuned to D-standard which seems like a good balance. I think I'll put 10s and tune to regular E-standard should have a nice balance of playability for kids. ... show more

  • Nice guitar but flawed speaker
Style: ST-30 INCH Color: Green
Got the guitar for our 8 yo son. It has the coolest look and great sound, also loved that it comes with all accessories. But the speaker didn’t work pretty much in the first week or two. It’s a bummer because your ears get used to the electric guitar sound via the speaker in the first week, then it no longer works. Doesn’t give the same excitement :((. Many weeks after, we still like the guitar but wish they improve the speaker. ... show more

  • Get your kid started for < $100
Style: ST-30 INCH Color: Red
General Review: If your kid is interested in learning an instrument, then get this. For under $100, you can get them everything they need to get started without breaking the bank. The guitar itself was actually pretty nice. Unlike some other reviews, I didn't have any problems with scratches on the body or roughness on the side of the neck. The frets were smooth, the pick guard had a plastic wrapping that we peeled off. I was pretty amazed at how nice it looked and felt versus some $300+ starter guitars I looked at years ago (and those didn't come with a case, strap, etc.) The only thing I had to tweak was tightening the low E string at the bridge because it was a little bit raspy sounding. But, that took under a minute. Itemized Review: - Guitar: Really good value and quality (for the cost) - Picks: a bit flimsy thin but get the job done - Amp: Good for learning and portability. - Tuner: Not great. Suggest finding a free tuning App on your phone that will be easier and better - Case: Decent - Strap: Decent ... show more

  • Worth the $110, better than other cheaper ST models
I have purchased multiple variations of affordable strats and this might be one of the best, certainly better than Glarry for example and is slightly better than the Grote version as well with better PUPs in my opinion. The closest comparison I would say is the Sawtooth version but the neck on the Sawtooth was terrible compared to this Donner at least with the version I received. The neck is really nice (reminds me of an actual Strat neck profile) and has a super smooth finish on the back with some interesting wood patterns in it. Frets were gritty and some minor rough edges but zero dead frets up and down the entire neck. Had to lower the bridge PUP as it was way too hot. Tuners seem fine and the nut cut seems to be good though it is a plastic nut. Fit and finish appears to be perfect unlike my last Donner LP that showed up with cracks all throughout the heel. The bridge appears to be sort of lightweight so I plan to at least swap the saddles for something heavier if not the entire bridge itself. Having played around with this for most of the morning I plan to change out the tuners to some locking ones I have on the bench, polish and cleanup the fretboard and will likely swap out PUPs for some Alcino ones I have sitting on my bench as well. I must stress this, NONE of these upgrades are needed for a beginner except the polishing of the frets and lowering the bridges. The action out of the box was PERFECT. ... show more
