I am not a cajon player, but my friend who plays percussion doesn't have an Amazon account, so I bought it for him. Now with "social distancing" we have to wait until we play together! So I am going to write the review from my point of view. My Donner cajon is the full size one, measuring 12 x 12 x 18 height counting the rubber feet. When it is not being used, it can become a side “table” to place a recorder or other electronic equipment. The hole allows you to place some things like papers, etc inside the unit for transport. I would be careful not to put something hard so the snares (see below) get damaged. The cajon comes with a nice black carrying backpack, with good all side protection and bottom reinforcement pads, solid backpack straps, a top handle and a zippered pocket 12 x 10 x 1.5 in. to carry accessories, papers etc. The cajon itself is light (9 pounds), with solid supporting sides and well made, with an attractive finish (clear in my case). It is well put together, with nice rounding edges and tight joints. Four solid rubber feet isolate the cajon to improve the sound. The front sounding board or "tapa" (tah pah) seems to be birch, and it is well secured to the supporting walls by 16 removable screws. After watching a couple of videos, I could get different sounds out of the cajon. The volume is more than adequate to accompany acoustic guitars, etc. This being the larger size cajon, the bass depth is pretty good. The cajon has 2 internal snares (similar to guitar strings) placed close to the internal side of the tapa, each snare shaped like an "A" shape. The top the “A” for each snare is fixed somewhat to the top of the inside of the tapa and the A legs for both snares go to a wood piece that can be adjusted - via 2 hex screws in the bottom of the cajon - to "tune" the snares. Inside, there is a holder for the hex wrench which comes included with the cajon. Additionally, on the inside of the tapa, there are two velcro strips that can be positioned to adjust the "muting" of the snares, letting you go from a drier sound similar to a conga drum to one more similar to a snare drum. Comparing prices, I only saw one unit with a lower price, from a brand not known for its quality. The higher prices could be up to two and half times more than this unit. All in all, the Donner cajon is a well made unit, with a very good sound, accessories and a very reasonable price.

I love this cajon, it has great sound quality and is built tough. My only issue was not with the cajon itself but the bag broke after only about 2 weeks. Other than that it is a great instrument

Well, you can do it instead on a Donner DCD-1T Compact Size Cajon Box Drum. Are you a musician, singer, or songwriter who wants to try a new or different beat or tempo? Are you a parent of a child who shows inclination towards becoming a drummer and want to be spared the prospect of an aspiring Phil Collins practicing on a drum set all day? All kidding aside, the Donner Compact Cajon drum can teach your child music beats associated with playing a percussion instrument. The cajon drum is also a favorite of the street performer who doesn’t want to drag along a complete drum set. Then there are those of us who appreciate and recognize the cajon drum as a beautiful instrument in and of itself. The Donner DCD-1T Compact Size Cajon Box Drum for Kids or Travel is a portable, beautifully handcrafted birchwood percussion box with internal guitar strings that serve as snares. It has a refined finish and tight joints and rounded edges. I have only had the cajon for a couple of days so I have a long ways to go in learning the proper strike of the palm for the base sound and the finger joints for the snare. There are ample videos on the web that are great to follow in learning. You can get creative with the cajon, for example using a drum brush in the upper right corner for a high hat effect or sliding your foot up or down the front of the box while playing for a tom effect. I look forward to becoming proficient and the funtime getting there! The Donner Compact Cajon has two adjustment methods, An Allen wrench is provided to for the adjustment screws at the bottom of the box for adjusting the front plate, and two velcro strips to adjust the guitar strings for the snare effect. The box is light-weight and very portable, making it easy to carry to any room in the house or out on the deck to play. Also included is a nice waterproof vinyl case with ample padding to protect the box and a strap so you can sling it over your shoulder for easy transport. The Donner DCD-1T Compact Size Cajon Box Drum is a top quality instrument for a child or those on the go at a great price!

The media could not be loaded. Not bad, you can make it sound like a drum set by just using your fingers... which I like. That's how I only play it tbh... not much of a congas guy...

This product arrived damaged with no wear or tear to the cardboard box that it was shipped in, nor the case included, which leaves me to think that this cajon drum was damaged at some point between the build dept, and packaging dept. Is this worth returning? No. Was this product salvageable? Yes. Will it perform as a new product? Yes. No reason to cause a huge fuss over it, but quality assurance is lacking. Obviously this damage happened sometime between the building department, and the packaging department. Why nobody caught this flaw in beyond me, but it is probably something that doesn't happen often, so I won't penalize Donner for this. After scraping the jagged edges off, realigning the panel board, using a little duck tape for backing, and putting several layers of Elmers construction wood glue on the damaged area (outside and inside), I was able to salvage this cajon drum, and the patch should last many years to come, so no need in returning this item, but why didn't the packing/shipping department catch this? They probably did, but shipped it off anyway. Maybe it's time to see what's going on in that department. Like I've mentioned, I won't take even a star off of the rating because I'm sure that this is a freak occurrence, but you guys should at minimum send me a free coverup sticker or something.
