  • Excellent Budget Acoustic Electric Guitar
Color: Wine Red
This arrived in a broken box. I had a moment of worry before opening the gig bag to find a fully intact, unharmed guitar. So, I'm pretty sure the gig bag is relatively protective, although it has an area on the front of the neck area that is nothing but plastic. No padding in that area at all. It's a bit odd. The rest of the bag is thickly padded. Anyway, it protected the guitar, so no problem. I really like the guitar, but first to the extras. There are extra strings and a cleaning cloth. Some really coarse picks that I won't use. And a stick on scratch guard. But the strap is wonderful. Rather than the usual two slits with holes that are too small especially in extra stiff leather ends, there are larger holes for the strap buttons, and that's a good thing because the end strap button doubles as the the output jack (really nicely done) and if you have to tug and push on it all the time, you'd quickly loosen the output jack. So, kudos. Also, the mechanism for tightening and loosening the strap is like that of an airplane seatbelt. Very nice and easy to use. The guitar is really comfortable to play. The headstock is attractive. The tuning keys are sturdy and very responsive. The nut is cut well. It feels like plastic. The carve is a very comfortable slim C. The fretboard is well hydrated and the frets are close to perfect. No corrosion. No sharp ends. No high frets. Just great. The neck had some relief and the action was crazy high, so I straightened the neck with the truss rod. Really like the magnetic truss rod cover. This broght the action down quite a bit. It ended up at 2mm on the low E and 1.75 on the high E. I'll probably file the nut down a little in the future, but for now it's very playable. I tend to like a very low action. The fit and finish of the guitar is very good. The wood seems to be open pore and a very attractive muted red. The output jack is in the end strap button. The controls and tuner are in the offset sound hole. The guitar sounds very good acoustically. When plugged in, the piezo pickup sounds really good also. The battery pack is velcro'd to the inside against the back of the guitar. All of the electronics work well. The scale is Gibson's 24.75 inches. And the nut width is 43.34mm. Overall, this guitar is an excellen budget acoustic electric and the extras are mostly very good as well. And for the current 200 dollars it is an excellent value for money. ... show more

  • Great sounding hybrid guitar backed by excellent customer support
Color: Brown
This Donner RISING-G2 acoustic electric guitar turned out to be a very pleasant surprise. The combination of a carbon fiber top with mahogany body and neck gives it a really nice balance between durability and that warm, natural tone you expect from an acoustic. It’s lightweight, comfortable to hold, and the overall finish looks great, especially with the carbon fiber design. Tuning was quick and straightforward. The 18:1 tuning gears make a noticeable difference, and once tuned, it held pitch very well. The low string action and smooth fretboard make it easy to play for longer sessions, which is ideal for beginners and intermediate players alike. The built-in electronics with a 2-band EQ, phase switch, and onboard tuner are a big plus if you plan to plug into an amp or PA system. I also appreciated the included accessories. It comes with an extra set of strings, an Allen wrench for adjustments, a cleaning cloth, a protective adhesive pad, and a surprisingly nice lightweight case, which adds a lot of value to the kit. The only issue I ran into was with the initial packaging. My first unit arrived without proper outer protection or sealing, which allowed it to move around during shipping. As a result, there were some loose internal components and minor damage. However, Donner’s customer service handled it exceptionally well. After I shared videos, they promptly sent a replacement guitar, no hassle at all. That level of support really stands out. Overall, this is a solid, well-designed acoustic electric guitar with modern materials and thoughtful features. With the added bonus of responsive customer service, it’s an easy recommendation for anyone looking for a good beginner to intermediate instrument. ... show more

  • Amazing starter guitar pack
Color: Black
This classical sized acoustic electric is an amazing deal for someone starting out, but as an experienced player, there's a few things to point out. For starters, the battery compartment is tucked inside the sound hole. That's not abnormal, but with the narrow entry, make sure you have someone with small hands to help you manage it. I had to get my wife's help, but we were able to get it plugged in and re-situated. The fret edges and edge of the body are a bit sharper than I'd like. This can easily be smoothed down by a skilled guitar repair person, but is probably manageable with a Youtube video tutorial as well if you are on a tighter budget. This may have just been the guitar I received, but I wanted to point it out in case others dealt with it. If this is a gift for a new player, this could be a factor that causes a comfort issue and could dissuade them from practicing. On to more positive notes, the guitar holds tuning well and had no problems getting into tune. The intonation was perfect out of the box. The guitar sounds good acoustically, but the built in pre-amp and eq were amazing. I played them both out of a direct input speaker and through some reverb on my Quad Cortex and it really punches above its weight class plugged in. This guitar is light to hold. The case that it comes with is very secure and nice. The neck is supported well in the case and the material feels like it would be fairly water resistant for if you got caught in some light rain. The strap it comes with is sufficient. I liked the variety of picks that it came with. Overall, I think this an amazing starter kit for the value. It plays well immediately and is a great setup for beginners and someone picking it back up alike. ... show more
