Bought this to place a two-tine core aerator that came with our property - and it's instantaneously better. Welds on the tines are exterior to the tube meaning that it's smooth for plugs to move through. 0 clogs at all without even worrying too much about soil moisture. Unclogging fork is exact width of tine tubes which actually means that it works pretty darn well (used it to clean the tool before storage.) Tine spacing is perfect. I feel like the four-tine version would be too close together but I guess if the cores are more narrow, maybe, or if the tool was wider. Seems very heavy duty with a strong finish that isn't going to wear easily. Thick rubber grips that I'm hoping hold up for a long time, but also feel like the only part of it that could possibly degrade eventually and require replacement. Bike handle wrap or tennis handle wrap might be a better option if the handles aren't some standard.

This product is very well constructed and easy to use. I wanted a smaller tine penetration and afterwards swept play sand into the holes. This is to prevent the holes from squishing back together.

I have a core aerator (fast friend) with 3 tines but I thought the 4 tines would be faster. The only problem I noticed was the spacing was too close and it tended to pull up a swath of topsoil. Maybe thinner tines would do the trick. If the soil is dry, it won't penetrate as well and is hard to pull out of the soil (if you spend a lot of effort to sink the tool).

This manual aerator is just what I expected. It is sturdy, easy to assemble and works great! Really the key to using this (or any other manual aerator) is the ground condition which is hard to know what works best until you try it. For example, my yard still has snow piles on it but I tried it in a sunny spot where the snow had melted (so the soil was sort of dry but still not too dry given the snow-melt) and it worked great. It does take some effort but I found rocking it side to side a bit helps to pierce the soil. This aerator may be short for tall people since the full length is 36.5 inches with 3.5 inch spikes resulting in a net 33 inch height once in the ground. I found (once in a while) when I needed to clean out the spikes it was best pushing the cleaning spike from the bottom end of the spikes (in the direction the plug would go out if it came out naturally). All in all a great tool !! Very satisfied ! Btw the only reason I only gave it 4 stars for "Easy to Use" was because... it is hard work .. not because of the tool itself.

Have been using the two core plugger for years… Unfortunately, the output of two cores is a slow and tedious process when you are trying to aerate a little larger area… This will double the output! It is sturdy and well constructed… I wish it was a double row, (now we’re talking). By the time you rent, pick-up, clean and return a machine, this will save time & do the trick for smaller areas, and give you a little exercise to boot…definitely recommend!

Two of the prongs did not work. They wouldn’t feed the soil through properly. One prong bent after only five punctures. Screws do not hold the bottom on for very long without getting loose and coming out, so I have to keep tightening them. Value is NOT worth the money.
