I got these because I needed a solution to cut my dogs nail. Going to the groomer has become so expensive that trying it myself is the only solution. Though Carl (my dog) has some pretty thick tough nails these worked. They were sharp enough to cut through quickly which is the trick. He hates getting his nails cut so the solution had to be quick and efficient. For roughly $10 they do the job that is expected with the required efficiency. These are fairly smaller handled than most of the tools made by this company. They are easy to grip and use. The nail guard is nice as it make sure you don’t cut too much nail, and the stores file in the handle is nice for any sharp edges that are left. The file does fall out of the handle randomly and I have to hunt for it, it would be nice if it locked in place like the handle locks closed. ... show more

    • I'm glad it has a shallow guide
My dog hates his nails bring trimmed. I had a nail trimmer but I felt the guide was way too deep and it was easy to hurt my dog by accidentally trimming too close. This nail trimmer has the guide set way more to my satisfaction. There is also a smoothing emory type file inserted into the handle. As I was trimming my dog's nails, it fell out and I thought I broke the trimmers, ha ha! It was easily placed back into the bottom of the trimmer. I'm not going to traumatize my dog at this point by filing them after cutting...baby steps! But this is a sufficient trimmer and it worked just fine for us! I was less scared to hurt him and that is a great thing. The price is very competitive as well. My other trimmers were twice this price. ... show more

These large dog nail clippers work very well on my giant breed dog. They feature a nice rubber texture that's easy to grip, a safety guard to keep you from cutting too deep, and a small file tucked away in the handle. The file is a great idea, but it's really too short to handle easily and work on very large claws. They deliver a straight, clean cut with a smooth, steady squeeze. I’ve always been scared to do my dogs nails. These nail clippers don’t seem any different than any other inexpensive pair of clippers. I do appreciate the safety stop that prevents over cutting, and it can be moved aside if you feel confident in your cuts. The nail file is small but handy to have for those frayed nails or rough edges. My dogs nails were long over due for a trim so I only took a little off for now (it was both of our first time since she joined our family and we were both nervous). ... show more

This is a nice item and essential for dogs. However, there were no instructions, so it took me a while to unlock it, but also figure out how to remove the cover. I accidentally cut my dog to the quick, so I feel terrible. My previous method I did not have this issue so unfortunately now my dog is terrified of the nail clipper so it’s gonna take me a little bit for him to get used to it again ... show more

This is one of those “you get what you pay for” products. If you’re looking for a pair of budget clippers for standard at-home pet use these will likely do the job. They clip nails as they should, all though I find them to be a bit on the dull side. The mail guard is more obnoxious than helpful so I flip it out of the way when in use. I don’t find the tiny file to be that useful either because of its size, but I suppose there’s someone out there who would use it. I previously had a cheap, clunky pair of clippers that my wife threw away because they always seemed to cause the dog to bleed. I replaced them with the Doggiez nail clipper. Here is my impression after one use: 1. Pleasant color handles and sturdy feel in my hand. 2. Handles have a bit of cushioning to them, which seems to give me better control. 3. The guard that helps prevent cutting too much nail off is stable and works. On my old clippers the guard was loose and useless. 4. Blades cut cleanly. My dog still doesn’t like it, but this makes the process faster. 5. In the end of one handle there is a small nail file that pulls completely out of the handle for use.
