The material feels like a very hard plastic-type material, so it is not a soft or flexible chew toy. For my dog, that has been a good thing because many toys do not last very long. Our dog is a HEAVY chewer, and when I ordered it I kind of eye rolled, expecting it not to last. A month and a half in and it's still her favorite toy! Yes, some small pieces have fallen off but that's going to happen to any toy. It's nowhere ready to be tossed yet, and we ordered a backup to have on hand. It is heavy and if (when, lol) you stub your toe in it it'll hurt, but that's the same with a bone or Kong so I don't take that as a negative like some reviews mentioned. We just got this sweet girl from the shelter a few days ago. She's had this toy for 2 days and already chomped off one of the legs. She does have other toys so she doesn't play with this one all the time but she does like it a lot! It's very hard and durable on the ends. But as you can see, it's not indestructible. The squeak made my dogs excited, but when I left them in attended, they tore apart the belly where the squeak was. It held up for a few weeks. The arms and tip of the tail were chewed off. Had to throw it away so my dogs wouldnt eat the parts that they chewed off. It kept them busy for a while.
