We bought 2 of these for our 8yr old Pointer Hound. We have a large yard, but it isn’t fenced in. It’s hard to take him out in the MN winter. I was very nervous about training an older dog to use this “grass”, but it was amazing, there was no training necessary!! He just walked up to it and went potty. Both #1 and #2! It’s so lifelike, it nearly fooled me. It even feels lifelike. We are so excited about this product. It drains nicely to the ground below the deck, and we can just rinse it with soapy water and wash any messy parts and store it for the summer. We would definitely recommend this product to anyone who could use something like this, it would be fantastic for puppy training or for older dogs who can’t use stairs, or a situation like ours! 3-19-24, 5 stars, Thick and Lush This is great as an outdoor area rug under a 2-4 seating arrangement, or a nice place for your pet to hang out. This looks and feels similar to our professionally installed artificial turf, but this is not as thick or dense and sparser in comparison. Not that you can see the backing from the top, but if you spread the blades of grass with your fingers you can. It feels quite lush when you step on it. It comes rolled up, so you'll need to shake it out and sweep or rake it the opposite of how the blades are layed down to get the full effect. And since this is cut from a much larger piece you'll have a little shedding initially. This has multicolored thin blades of grass similar to tiff, and then a light tan curly Q's underneath to appear as thatch. The backing is very rough and not skid resistant. It's not something you'd want to lay on a slick smooth surface otherwise when you step on it it will slide. It's perfect to lay on top of dirt, gravel, concrete, weeds or wood decking. It's fairly heavy in its rolled form but once you lay it out the wind could still easily lift a corner and flop it over. It wouldn't necessarily take flight unless you have really strong winds and nothing setting on top of it. From experience, if you're going to be using this out in the open yard and not on a patio with furniture weighting it down, you'll want to have at least the corners anchored down with nails, landscaping staples or something. It can be cut to fit using the same type of blades you would cut wall to wall carpeting with, heavy duty scissors, or if you're skilled with a razor knife. We have a batting cage in our back yard that our pups have run so many circles around it's all mud. It looks like we have race horses LOL. With the rain, it's been a huge mud pit. I have some rubber mats to cover the tracks, but wanted something for the small patch next to it. This certainly does the trick. My dogs pee and poo on it just like real grass. It's helped keep some of the mud out of my house. It will be just fine if that's all you need it for. The grass blades come out if your dog likes to scratch at all. Not a huge problem, but if you are going for aesthetics, it pales in comparison to the turf we will be installing in a couple weeks at $25/sq foot. So, at around $100 of, it looks pretty good and is a great value for 5 x 10 piece. ... show more

Training pups is not particularly difficult but starting them on "turf" is a benefit. At approximately 4 weeks of age I began putting the babies on the grass as soon as they finished eating. They toddled around for a bit and then began doing their business. As they progress in age and when the weather is mild enough for them to be outside the turf will be moved to my deck and eventually to the yard. This turf did have a chemical smell but every piece of turf I've ever purchased does. I opened and let it air out for several days before introducing my pups to it. The other purpose that served was to flatten it out. It has held up well to being hosed down and scrubbed with dog safe cleaners. It does not retain and smelly odors which is a huge benefit. Blades of grass do wash and shake off but I expected that. I believe it will hold up for a long time. I will purchase again when needed. ... show more

The Good: wow this is a very quality and thick turf. This is on par with the highest grade of turf you can buy for yards. The grass blades are over 1” thick and look and feel wonderful. This is way better than I expected from buying online. This is a very realistic turf When first unrolled the blades were pushed down / compacted but leaving it in the sun 1 day they had all stood up without any effort on my behalf. The bottom is rubber and has drainage holes and ridges for longevity and, well quick drainage. That’s what is on professional grade turf and this turf could be easily staked down to prevent movement. We got the 6’x8’ size and it was uniform throughout the turf The Bad: this smelled terrible upon opening! To the point it was nearly nauseating. After a day of airing out it was better and after hosing it down and keeping it outside for a week the smell is gone. You will need to air it out before using it Apart from the initial smell, this is a solid buy recommendation from us ... show more

Does not like walking or peeing on the grass and weeds in our big back yard, but will rush across them to get to the patio where she always goes to pee. I got this for my dogs so they could do their business on the patio when it's raining or when the yard is too wet after a storm. However, they seem more content just falling asleep on the thick artificial grass so we ended up using it as a rug for our back patio. At any rate, it looks very realistic and it’s pretty easy to clean with a water hose and a spray nozzle.
