I am genuinely impressed with the DJI Osmo Action 6. It is impressively small and light, and the magnetic snap on mount makes switching setups so effortless. I picked this up primarily for my outdoor adventures and for recording Little League baseball games. The 4K60fps footage looks fantastic for sports. While the default wide angle is a bit aggressive, there are simple settings to straighten the image, and it provides perfect coverage for the entire baseball field. When I take it out for other shoots, I love that it is compatible with all my existing GoPro accessories. The Capture More Combo is definitely the way to go. The included extension rod and the extra battery are absolutely essential for longer days. I am very happy with this purchase.

When I heard that the US government had security concerns about DJI drones being a national security risk I figured their action camera would be OK. I was wrong. The setup experience was like a phishing email. Create a sense of urgency, ask you to give them access you normally wouldn't. 1) Camera can only be powered on 5 times without activation; it has a countdown timer on the screen. 2) No apparent way to transfer data off of the camera without activating. 3) Activation QR code caused and APK file to be downloaded and prompted to side-load to bypass the Google Play store (and the basic security protections that offers). 4) There was a version of the DJI app on the Google play store (why not have me go directly there instead of trying to sideload?) 5) Even the DJI app on the Google play store would not allow me to activate the app without first requiring access to all of my phone's files and media. Activation should NOT require this! As a software engineer I tried to think of reasons why they might need these access rights; but I doesn't add up. Too much risk giving them such broad access to my phone especially for a connected video + audio device. I've purchased and used a lot of apps/devices and haven't yet encountered such an invasive situation. ...so I purchased the GoPro Hero 13 Black instead and had none of these issues where I felt my privacy was being violated. The unboxing and setup experience was superior; I was impressed.

Bottom Line Up Front: The DJI Osmo Action 6 Capture More Combo is a great action camera and the first one I've owned. It has a massive 1/1.1-inch square sensor and a true variable aperture... it's great that it breaks away from that overly sharpened, cheap "fisheye" look that plagues other action cameras. This is a premium, beautifully built system that handles harsh shadows and dark environments with professional ease. The Capture More Combo is absolutely worth the investment, giving you two high-capacity batteries and a solid 1.5-meter extension rod right out of the box. The build quality is incredibly rugged and it is completely waterproof down to 65 feet without a separate case, and I like that it includes 50GB of fast internal storage in case you ever forget your SD card. Here are the settings I use to get a "Cinematic" Look: Action cameras are known for looking overly contrasty, digitally sharp, and hyper-stabilized. If you want your footage to look less like a viral stunt clip and more like a high-end film, use these specific settings: - Turn on PRO Mode: Swipe left on the rear screen and toggle the "PRO" button to unlock manual controls. - Frame Rate & Shutter Speed: Set your resolution to 4K (16:9 or 4:3) and your frame rate to 24fps. To get natural, cinematic motion blur, follow the 180-degree shutter rule by locking your shutter speed strictly at 1/50s. - Use ND Filters: Because your shutter speed is locked at 1/50s, bright daylight will completely blow out your image. You will need to pop a physical ND filter over the lens to act as sunglasses for the camera. - Color Profile: Switch the color profile to 10-bit D-Log M. This captures a flat, wide 13.5-stop dynamic range image, preventing your skies from blowing out and keeping details alive in the shadows. You can easily apply the DJI LUT for the Action 6 and apply it in editing software like DaVinci Resolve to bring the colors to life later. - Dial Down the Digital Sharpness: Go into the Image Adjustments menu and drop both Sharpness (Texture) to -2 and Noise Reduction to -2. This completely removes that harsh, crunchy digital look and provides a much softer, more organic film texture. - Field of View: Switch from the ultra-wide "Fisheye" look to Standard (Dewarp). This straightens out your leading lines and keeps horizons flat, making your footage look like it was shot on a premium cinema lens. Overall I think this is a great camera and I highly recommend it!

Action cameras have come along way and this gives a BEAUTIFULLY WIDE image that's nice and crisp. They advertise 8K resolution and while technically true, that only helps bridge the gap vs. pricier 4K cameras, you'll still have cheap action camera image in low light obviously. The stabilization in camera is surprisingly good, iPhone quality, and bike bumps shouldn't be an issue. The main issue I do have is the fixed focus. This lens is so wide, if you want to capture everyday life events as opposed to sports/action, they you may want the pocket. This is a fixed focus camera, which works well, even though that sounds scary, but everything close to it will be out of focus. It works well as soon as you get a foot away, but this is so wide, you may not get the best closeups of kitties and the rest of the family. It's not what it's made for. There is a 2x zoom, but has a major quality loss, so be comfortable staying wide and only using the zoom/2x mode in well lit situations if you want to use this as a family camcorder. Wrist strap is a must as this thing is small and you get a clear plastic lens cover, which I keep on for protection, but since it's clear, I want it the clear protector protected so it doesn't get dirty and show up in the footage. I do wish it came with a simple lens cap, which most camera cages come with. I do recommend getting a cage for protection as this thing is small. But also, the button ergonomics aren't the best. The power and shutter buttons can be tricky and require a bit more force than usual and camera cages help make it easier to press. This kit version comes with 2 batteries, which is nice, as well as an extension pole and backup mounts. A welcome plus is the front screen for framing, but it's square, so it may still be tricky framing things when using it, where something like the Pocket 4 works much better, but can't knock this as it's a different use case product. So overall, minus a star for ergonomics and lens cap and wish the extension pole had a mini tripod leg system.

I'm so impressed with my action 6, the video quality is great using the settings right out of the box. It's very easy to operate, the touchscreen is sensitive and responds well. User friendly, changing settings isn't hard to figure out even for a DJI newbie like me. As soon as I turned it on I had to connect it to the dji app to proceed. Good thing I already downloaded it because there was a countdown and only 5 times to connect initially. I guess it won't work after that? I don't know, I did it on time, so all is well for me lol. Why I chose the action 6 over the nano was the durability of the 6. I wanted something I didn't have to baby around. To take with me on my bike rides, runs, and when I went swimming. I needed something rugged and durable, and this fits the bill. It came packed with accessories too, so I don't need to buy much else- although I did get a small selfie stick tripod for more discreet shooting. The camera itself has a textured surface almost rubber like on the front and back that lets me get a good secure grip on it when I don't have it mounted. It's a good size, not too big, not too small. I have large hands, and I have no problems operating the camera. Awesome image stabilization, I've been using HorizonSteady since I got it and I love the footage it's been giving me. I will say that super night mode is good, but I prefer my own settings for less over exposed footage. But, to each their own. Both battery life and sound quality is great, I purchased mic minis but that'll be a separate review. Also, forgot to add. the 1:1 sensor means I don't have to take footage twice. I can use the same footage and easily use it for reels without losing quality. It's a great feature that none of their previous models have. Overall, love it. I'm so happy with the footage I'm getting with it, even photographs great! The photo I’m sharing is the first I took with my action 6 with the settings set to whatever they were out of the box. Photo was taken at 11:15 pm. No filter or adjustments were made other than cropping a lot for privacy reasons. If I needed to, I’d get an action 6 again. Not that I will need to replace this one, it really does seem like a rugged piece of equipment. Highly recommend. I was debating between a 6 and the nano, and glad I went for the 6.

I've been thrilled to have The DJI Osmo Action 6 and the Capture More Combo. We have a full slate of summer adventures planned where the Osmo A6 will be a perfect addition. The size is small enough to easily carry in a pocket or bag, for use whenever you need it. The Capture More Combo has the camera, 2 DJI quick release magnetic mounts, two batteries, 1.5m extension stick and a USB-C cable. To activate the device, I used a secondary Android phone and the the DJI Mimo app from the Play Store. The functions gained using the app are: Firmware updates, using the phone as a larger monitor, access to some special modes, and direct file transfers. My take after using the Action 6: There are some standout features I've wanted in an action camera. The biggest ones are: 1. The 1/1.1-inch square sensor! This feature alone makes this a go-to for vlogging and social media. A custom mode allows you to shoot video using the full square sensor at 4k x 4k 30fps. In editing, you can reframe the same footage for both landscape and portrait without compromising video quality. 2. Front and back touch displays. The rear is 2.5 inch, and the front is 1.46 inch. 3. Excellent stabilization, with both RockSteady+ and Horizon Steady. 4. Waterproof to 20m without a case. 6. Insane battery life, up to 240 minutes. 7. 64GB of built in storage, and if you need more, an SD card slot for up to 1TB more! 8. Camera features such as interchangeable lenses, variable aperture, solid low light performance with a wide f/2.0, and onscreen D-Log preview. Subject center tracking. Shooting modes from 8k/30fps, 4k/120fps, 4k/60 and1080p/240fps. I found shooting with the new custom full square sensor mode offers such flexibility when editing. Captured sound quality is fantastic with three-way mic and 48k/24-bit noise suppression. i found the Action 6 intuitive to use, easy to learn and fun to shoot with. The build quality is top-notch, the device is rugged, weatherproof and waterproof. The combo accessories are all welcome additions. The extension stick is very nice! The DJI magnetic quick release connectors are great to have, just don't lose the locking screws which are loose. There are a whole range of compatible mounts and accessories for the Osmo lineup. To transfer video, I merely attach this device to my MacBook via USB-C cable. A folder called Osmo Action mounts on my desktop for straightforward file transfer. Loaded with advanced features and modes, this little camera will serve our family for some time to come!
