I did a lot of research and watched many YouTube videos about the different drone options currently on the market: Mavic Pro, Phantom 4, Spark, GoPro Karma, etc. The Mavic Pro is by far the most well rounded, take anywhere drone. It is small enough that you almost forget you have a drone with you but large enough to handle a good amount of wind. The camera isn't the best but has some really great qualities that coupled with the portability make it the go to platform for everyday use. The controller is very compact but allows you to mount a variety of devices. I primarily use an iPhone 7 but have been able to snuggly fit an iPad Mini! The controller has a digital display that reports pertinent flight information to include speed, distance, height and more. The Dji Go 4 App is awesome and displays all other information to include battery life, flight mode, signal strength, satellites, etc. The app allows you to change settings on the fly and displays the image seen from the on board camera. The controller has several customizable buttons which make set up easy and to your liking. The app allows for touch screen operation of all settings obtainable through the display. The flight of the Mavic Pro is so simple and can be set up with very strict or lax limitations. You can cause the drone to feel very numb on the sticks or insanely aggressive. So many sensors keep the drone stable and in control, wind velocity is tracked via onboard sensors and will notify you if conditions are too bad to fly. The Mavic auto levels once the sticks are returned to neutral and the satellite connections keep it locked in a hover. Auto land is dead on as long as the precision take off function is done. It has always landed within inches of the take off spot. Don't get me wrong, you can absolutely crash this thing (flying sideways and backwards mainly) but you have to try pretty hard. The 3-Axis gimbal for the camera creates super stable images regardless of how aggressive the Mavic is flown. Becoming smooth on the sticks in conjunction with the gimbal makes for an incredible video recording platform! The app is also excellent post flight. It has a built in video editor where you can clip from the original recording to make your own compilation video. You are able to mute audio and add pre-installed music. The app also makes a quick 30 second edit automatically! It is slick. Speaking of videos, they are recorded to an on board Micro SD card, 16g included. The app also saves the video in cache which allows you to view the video in the app after the Mavic is shut down. From there you can edit and save to you local memory where it becomes available in your photos! Overall, I am very impressed with the Mavic Pro and highly recommend it. I am pretty experienced in flying RC Helicopters, Quads, and planes so it came easy to me however I believe the Mavic Pro has all the tools to get anyone off the ground safely! Style: Pro Configuration: Fly More Bundle
I'm not a professional photographer, videographer or drone flyer. This is actually only my second drone. My first one was of the 'selfie drone' variety and turned out to be kind of sub-par...however, it really gave me the bug for drone flying. With that first one, I kept running into limitations with range, quality and control. So when I ended up hitting a tree and dropping it into a pool I started trying to figure out what drone I really wanted. When it comes to quality (in every respect) and portability (something I really needed) it was easy to see that the Mavic is the gold standard. I. LOVE. THIS. DRONE. It's expensive, yes. But the build quality is fantastic (the controller, the Mavic itself...even the carrying bag). It really feels like something substantial...absolutely not a toy. My first drone was white plastic and kind of 'bubbly'. This drone looks like a shark...my kids call it the 'bad guy drone'. Even the app is great...it's got more settings than I know what to do with. And if the app is not to your liking...you can check out some of the many 3rd party apps available for flying. It's so easy to fly this thing! It hovers rock solid and even in windy conditions when it does wobble a little, the gimbal does a great job of keeping that out of your videos. There have been times that I've played back a video and thought that playback had frozen because the image was so still prior to the drone moving. If you can afford it, I highly recommend getting the combo. A single battery can last 20-25 minutes which is really a long time, but it's great to have spares to pop in. And the 4 battery charger is great for charging all the batteries quickly (it does not charge them simultaneously, it does it one battery at a time starting with whichever one has the most charge). And the bag is very nice...it's a rubbery/leather like material. Has room for the Mavic, the controller, two extra batteries, and a couple other small compartments for other items. If you've bothered to read this whole review...you probably already want this thing. And assuming you've got the money for it...do it! ... show more
