    • Great Drone for Beginners
I think this drone is a good choice for someone who is a beginner to drones. I owned a DJI Mini before this one and never had any issues with it. DJI makes good products and the Mavic Mini isn't any different. The camera images are great but there are a few things I don't like about this drone. The video isn't smooth at times with the drone while capturing video as it turns (my DJI Mini did the same). Unfortunately, when I was trying to capture video while flying between bushes, I ended up crashing it a couple times and it fell on the snow from a few feet off the ground. Since the video wasn't smooth, I ended up taping the gimbal but ended up taking it off since it wasn't helping. Since doing that, my drone keeps giving me gimbal errors and doesn't fly under control at times but I suspect it's either from the crash or when I taped the gimbal.     • Great little affordable drone
This is a very nice and affordable drone. The only negative is the lack of decent printed instructions. You have to go online to get the PDF manual which isn't much help if you are out in the field. I had trouble getting it to go very far or high and I scoured the web for advice to overcome the limits. I tried updating the firmware twice and removed and reinstalled the app before discovering the problem. If you put the propeller guards on it goes into 'payload' mode. Take them off and it will go as far as you set for height and distance. Bear in mind that it is legally limited to 400' of altitude and within sight horizontally but that is fine for my purposes. ... show more

My 12 year old is loving every minute with this drone! He has never had difficulty flying it. The training videos are great but he didn’t even need those to fly it the first time - it’s that easy.

    • Love the drone, not the seller
The media could not be loaded. The drone itself is very good. You would do better to just get it with the flymore package and buy your own SD card. The seller sent the wrong bag (looks like a water bottle carrier) so I ended up paying $50 for an $18 128GB SD card. It was 4 hours from receiving the package to my first flight. Everything has to be charged up. Installing DJIFly on an Android is a pain - you have to download and install the apk file manually. Then there was a software update, plus a firmware upgrade, and I had to download the flight restrictions map. I had no idea there were so many airports in Southern California. About 80% of the area around where I live is under some kind of flight restriction. The drone finally left the carpet after doing all that and watching some videos (I strongly recommend searching YouTube for "Mavic Mini beginner"). It freaked out the cats and landed safely. It was so cool! Today I took it out to an empty car park and learned the basic moves. I'm not thrilled with having to constantly take my phone out of the case and attaching it to the remote. I might spend $100 or so for a refurbished phone. It just needs to run Android 6 and doesn't need a sim card. Update - I got a used Pixel 2 with battery problems for a low price. The phone gets power from the controller so that's perfect. Plus it fits in the drone's excellent case. I uploaded a 720p cached copy of my first flight. Amazon compresses it a bit but it'll give you a feel. The camera's 2.7k video looks a lot better. It turns out this drone does not have follow or scan capability out of the box so I'm going to buy the Litchi app which adds this functionality and more. ... show more
