  • Fun and Educational Bionic Hand Kit – A Big Hit with Our 9-Year-Old
Our 9-year-old son has been building robotic hands out of cardboard, straws, and string for quite some time, so we decided to surprise him with this Bionic Hand by Discovery. Needless to say, he was mind-blown when we pulled it out of the box. We spent a couple of hours putting it together, and the assembly was surprisingly easy. The instructions were clear enough that he was able to do most of it himself with a little help. One minor issue: the kit came with parts L5 and two L6 pieces instead of an L4. The L6 piece worked in place of L4 but left a small gap at the joint. So far it has held together just fine, so it’s not a big concern, just something to note. This kit is both fun and educational and it’s a great way to introduce kids to basic engineering concepts in a hands-on way. Seeing his excitement as the hand came to life was worth every minute we spent assembling it. ... show more

  • My 6-Year-Old and I Built This Together and He Loves It!
I helped my mechanically inclined 6-year-old build this wearable robotic hand, and he absolutely loves it! The 87-piece kit was a fun and engaging project that introduced him to real mechanics, hydraulics, and engineering concepts in a hands-on way. We chose to build it for his right hand, and the adjustable design fit him perfectly. The targeting light feature is a great touch — he couldn’t stop showing it off once it was finished! The instructions were clear, and watching him learn how pulleys and hydraulics work was amazing. It’s both educational and entertaining, making it a perfect STEM activity for curious kids. Highly recommend this for parents looking to spark creativity and a love for science — we had a blast building it together! ... show more

  • Engaging and educational build-your-own robotics kit for kids
This STEM Bionic Hand Robotics kit was a great hands-on project for my 8-year-old son. He loves building and tinkering, so this was right up his alley. There were no missing parts, and he was able to handle most of the assembly on his own, only needing a bit of guidance here and there when some steps weren't immediately clear. It turned out to be a rewarding and educational activity that held his attention. Once assembled, the bionic hand fits on the right hand and uses finger slots to control the robotic fingers. He thought it was really cool to play with something he had just built himself, which added to the sense of accomplishment. The movement of the fingers works well, and the whole setup feels surprisingly sturdy. The design is clever and well thought out, especially for a kit meant for younger builders. Overall, this was a fun and worthwhile experience that combines creativity, problem-solving, and a bit of early engineering exposure in a way that’s genuinely enjoyable for kids. ... show more

  • Impressive STEM Kit That’s Fun for All Ages
I ordered the Discovery Bionic Hand Robotics Kit as a Christmas gift for my grandson, who’s already into building robots. At first glance, I thought it might be too simple for him since it’s labeled for ages 8+, but once I opened the box and looked through the instructions, I was tempted to build it myself! The kit includes 87 pieces, plenty of small parts that require careful assembly. The instructions are well-written with clear illustrations, and each section is thoughtfully laid out to guide the build step-by-step. It’s not a quick snap-together toy; this is a hands-on engineering project that will take time and focus, which makes it all the more rewarding. I love that you can build it for either the left or right hand, and the adjustable design means it can fit most hand sizes. The targeting light on the back adds a fun, techy touch, and the hydraulic system introduces real mechanical concepts in a playful way. A nice surprise was the included Brain Game with explanations, perfect for sparking conversation and learning during family gatherings. It turns the kit into more than just a build; it’s an educational experience. Overall, this is a well-designed STEM toy that offers challenge, creativity, and learning. Whether your child is just getting into robotics or already has experience, this kit has enough depth to keep them engaged, and maybe even a few adults too. ... show more

  • Took a few hours to assemble, thumb stopped working, Laser is just a flashlight
Well this kit was quite doozy to assemble. My kids are younger than 8 and they still enjoyed putting it together, although parents will obviously have to "help" them through 90% of the assembly. The hand itself is a pretty cool toy once assembled and has stood up well to rough play even when a toddler accidentally got hold of it. The fingers have rubber pads on them where your finger prints would be, so you can grip things easier. The overall build quality is pretty good. Unfortunately my thumb stopped working. While the fingers just retracted with a spring, the thumb uses a vacuum chamber to actuate (there's a syringe mechanism and air tubes) and there must be a vacuum leak or something that developed. The laser is also not a focused beam like advertised, it's just a simple green color flashlight. They could really improve the design by making the beam was more focused and changing the dial to a button so kids can point and blast things. Fit is accurate based off of age, as even with the grip rail set full front or rearwards a regular adult cannot fit their hand into it. For $25, I do believe the price was fair and my kids got $25 of entertainment out of it. They just need to redesign the green light and thumb mechanism to make it a 5-star product. ... show more

  • Engaging for a 8 year old
This was fun. I helped my 8 year old built this, well really I offered helpful comments while he put it together. :) Really though, it was challenging enough to assemble it that it kept him engaged. Once assembled, it moved and functioned like a robotic hand! It is clear this is a toy and so the quality and durability is that of a toy. It was challenging enough to keep an eight year old engaged for a few hours. ... show more
