  • A must-have for Dior fans or someone who is into fashion
Format: Hardcover
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and found it to be both informative and visually appealing. It offers a fascinating look into the history and storytelling behind some of Dior's most iconic creations, making it an engaging read for both fashion enthusiasts and anyone interested in how great brands are built over time. Pros: Beautiful illustrations throughout the book Attractive cover that looks great on display Easy to read and move through the pages Provides a comprehensive look at the Dior brand Offers insider stories behind many iconic Dior creations Makes an excellent coffee table book Would make a thoughtful gift for fashion and luxury brand enthusiasts Very fairly priced at $16.76 after a 16% discount (price at the time of review) Cons: None that I can think of I finished the book in just four days, which speaks to how accessible and engaging I found the content. The writing strikes a nice balance between being informative and easy to digest, while the illustrations help bring the stories to life. I particularly enjoyed learning about the inspiration and history behind some of Dior's most recognisable products and designs. Overall, this is a well-produced book that combines beautiful visuals with compelling brand storytelling. If you're a Dior fan, have an interest in luxury brands, or are looking for a stylish gift, this book is well worth adding to your collection. ... show more

  • Beautiful, Accessible Survey of Dior Beautiful, Accessible Survey of Dior
Format: Hardcover
Although this is an "Unofficial & Unauthorized" book, it is still one that does a good job showing the history and scope of the house of Dior. It is not a start-to-finish linear biography or history; the book is more like a series of short essays, each focusing on a symbol important to the brand, in a tiny coffee-table-book-style format. The numbered symbols include places, colors, people, and iconic garments (mostly dresses). For each, there's an illustration and a few paragraphs of text describing the history or significance. At #14, Houndstooth, for example, the reader learns that Christian Dior was one of the first designers to bring the Houndstooth pattern to fashion in the 1940s. The history in the book extends from the early 1900s of Dior's childhood to the 2000s, when Dior has outsourced its design to new people, with their own styles and ideas. One thing that never appears in the text is the presence of its author, Glenys Johnson. Even in the Introduction, there is no opinion, or anecdote about the author's relationship to or feelings about Dior as a label, and it's never even mentioned whether Johnson is the author, editor, compiler, illustrator, biographer, or any combination of these things. Especially because I like the simple, fluid, vintage-style illustrations, I'd like to know more about the creation of the book, or even its inspiration. As a fan of early Dior designs, I like having this book around for its aesthetic, and I enjoyed reading each of the short essays over a few weeks. It's an easy book to pick up and read in short bursts, and doesn't even have to be read in order. I wouldn't consider it to be comprehensive or authoritative, though, and the information is almost secondary to the pictures. As a fun coffee table read, the book works, but if you're looking to research Christian Dior or his impact on fashion, you might want a more conventional biography. ... show more

  • Beautiful coffee table fashion book
Format: Hardcover
This book is really gorgeous in person and feels like the kind of coffee table book people actually stop and flip through when they come over. The photos and overall layout are really well done and it gives a nice overview of Dior’s most iconic designs and history without feeling too overwhelming. I liked that it focused on specific pieces and creations because it made the book feel more visually interesting and easier to casually read through. The quality of the printing and images also feels high end and the cover looks really elegant displayed out. Even if you are not deeply into fashion history, it is still enjoyable to look through because the visuals are so strong. Overall it feels like a really nice gift or display book for anyone interested in fashion, luxury brands, or design. ... show more

  • Interesting topics in a bite sized format.
Format: Hardcover
Ive enjoyed browsing through this book ‘Dior in 50 Objects’. When I first received it, I went to the table of contents and skipped around through the pages. I was particularly interested in the pages of Elizabeth Taylor and Princess Diana, but the book ranges in topics from people, to iconic designs and pieces, to buildings, to perfume- basically everything touched by or pertaining to Dior. The information is bite sized, with each topic being condensed in to 3 paragraphs or fewer. I have found myself pulling out my phone to further investigate certain subjects discussed in the book that I find extra interesting (like the scandal of Elizabeth Taylor and Gina Lollobrigida showing up in the same dress). The illustrations in the book are well done and the writing is done well. I’m leaving this book on my coffee table and I enjoy thumbing through it. ... show more

  • Matches my spring decor and home aesthetics nicely Matches my spring decor and home aesthetics nicely
Format: Hardcover
I love high fashion and using the books to decorate with. I put them on end/coffee tables, serving trays, bathrooms, and on my book shelves. I really liked the design of this book and thought it would be perfect sitting out for Spring. It’s a nice quality lovely book and the aesthetics match my spring decor nicely. Although I mainly get these for display, I also enjoy looking through them from time to time. As do my friends when they come over and this one’s been a big hit. It has beautiful designs inside and great stories and facts. There were some black ink smudges on the back of the cover, but otherwise it’s perfect. I like that it looks good from all angles, whether it’s flat on a tray or standing up on a book shelf. ... show more

  • lovely book lovely book
Format: Hardcover
i used to work in luxury retail, and always find the history behind the pieces and brand to be interesting to learn about. as a fan of christian dior, i was excited to order this "unauthorized" or unofficial book that highlights some of the designs. at first glance, i love how beautiful the cover of the book is. it showcases a black dior lady, with the blue signature brand accents on the hardcover's borders. additionally, the text is in a beautiful gold font. i love flipping through the pages of this book. there's just the right amount of text to be informed, but i especially love the images and the style of the illustrations. i love how all of the iconic styles including couture outfits, accessories, shoes, and purses are showcased in this book. it's a perfect decorative book for our living room space, and i've found myself flipping through it a few times already in awe of the beautiful images. such a fun book to have, and i even thought this would be a beautiful book to order as a gift for someone who also loves high fashion. ... show more

  • Pretty to Look At And To Read
Format: Hardcover
I am very much into books on art, fashion and home decor, and so I tend to gravitate towards books that marry those topics. My favorites are the big, heavy coffee table books with tons of photos and really detailed information about the designers and their designs, so I had a certain expectation in mind when I ordered this. Once it showed up, it was pretty clear right away that this is a much smaller, more pared-down version of that kind of book. This book is built around 50 Dior pieces and moments, each with a short write-up. The author, Glenys Johnson keeps the text really easy to read, but the illustrations by Francesca Waddell are what gives the book some personality. It's very short in stature and in length, so I found myself flipping through it pretty quickly, very much interested in the vivid illustrations. This is much more of a cute intro to Dior type of tome than a deep dive into the history of the brand. It’s one that you'd gift to someone you know who has a casual interest in fashion. I can see also see it appealing to anyone who wants to add another pretty tome to their bookshelf or table. ... show more
