  • Understand its limitations and it's fine
If you're looking for something with the utmost precision, this isn't for you. This rounds to the nearest 0.01" or .1mm. If you're looking for a toughness and durability, this isn't for you. It's plastic, and not "carbon fiber" as noted on its back label. As I could tell, it's a reinforced type of nylon/plastic. If you're looking for something faster to read than manual calipers at a friendly price, then this is worth it. I mean, a cup of coffee can cost more than this! Naturally, no case is included, though a spare battery is. It's a "good enough" set of calipers at a "good enough" price. 5 stars for the value. ... show more

  • Would benefit from a locking mechanism, but still a fantastic deal!
[BRAND]: HnoaTovy [ITEM]: Digital Caliper Calipers Measuring Tool, 0-6inches Electronic Caliper with Premium Large LCD Screen, Inch and Millimeter Convert, Auto-Off Feature, High Precision and Clear Display, HnoaTovy [SELLER]: HANKOOKER HnoaTovy [MATERIAL]: Plastic [SIZE]: 9.4"L x 2.9"W (9.3"L x 3.1"W) [MEASUREMENT ACCURACY]: +/-0.5% [POWER SOURCE]: 1 LR44 batteries required. (included) [MODEL]: KTL-DC-001 [BARCODE]: X004C17B63 [ASIN]: B0DCBB6HZ9 [EASE OF USE]: These digital calipers are quite easy to adjust, but there's no mechanism to lock and hold them in place. You can see the difference in the photos of it measuring the cardstock. In one photo, I’m holding it securely in place with my right hand, and in the other, I’m just closing the clamp on it without any means of securing it steady. It’s not a huge difference (0.3 mm), but the lack of a secure way to lock it in place does alter the precision slightly. [VERSATILITY]: You can zero out the measurement at any point to measure from further extension, which makes it more versatile. It appears that 6.1 inches is about the maximum width it can measure. [BATTERY AND POWER ISSUES]: The instructions seem to cover two different models of these calipers, suggesting the unit can be powered with either an SR/LR44 button battery or a CR2032 battery. From the photos, you can see the CR2032 battery I had on hand is way too big. This is a bit of a bummer since I stockpile CR2032 batteries for multiple items and would prefer not to buy additional button batteries just for this one item. On the bright side, it came with one installed and a backup, which I appreciate! The biggest downside is the power management. While there is a power on and power off button, anytime you move the calipers to open or close them, it powers the unit on. There doesn't seem to be an automatic timeout to power off. For battery-operated items I don’t use often, I typically insert the batteries backwards to prevent drain, but you can’t do that with a button battery. This means I need to keep track of the tiny battery between uses or risk it draining when jostled in storage. To be fair, it stays closed pretty well, so just make sure you close it all the way when you put it away. If you plan on keeping it in a junk drawer where it will get jostled a bunch, maybe put a rubber band around the mouth. [PRICE AND VALUE]: Honestly, for under $5, these digital calipers are a steal. Sure, there are a few quirks with the battery and lack of a locking mechanism, but at this price, I can overlook them. It’s surprising how affordable it is for what you get. I recommend it, especially if you need a budget-friendly option for occasional use. [PROS]: • Easy to adjust • Zero out measurement versatility • Inexpensive • Comes with an extra battery [CONS]: • No locking mechanism for measurements • Confusing instructions regarding battery compatibility • Potential power management issues ... show more

  • Has a couple flaws, but is good for budget calipers
Full disclosure, I received this item as part of Amazon's Vine Program in exchange for an honest review, good or bad. If you need budget friendly calipers this a pretty good. They are priced right, so you could buy several pair and leave them around your shop. They work well and seem to be reliable. I would not be afraid of dropping these. They are also easy to read. They do have two issues. One is they "turn on" when the jaws are slid open or closed. This means they don't actually turn off. If you put them in a vehicle or tool bag, every time you move them, they will turn on and run the battery down. Many inexpensive calipers do this and it is hard to find a set that does not. Because of this "feature", they are for shop use only. The second issue is that they only display 0.00 inches and not 0.000 like the more expensive models. They will be fine for woodworking, 3D printing or other makers. Machinist need to look at something else, with at least a 10X or more higher price tag. ... show more

  • Very good, easy-to-use digital caliper (inches or mm) at a great price.
I have a cheap, plastic mechanical caliper, an expensive stainless steel digital caliper (that goes to ten- thousands of inches and hundredths of millimeters), and now this HnoaTovy digital caliper (which goes to hundredths of inches or tenths of millimeters). This caliper is very good if you only need hundredths of inches or tenths of millimeters—which is plenty good enough for most tasks. It comes with a spare (LR44) battery. It is very intuitive to use, and the display is easy to read. Although it’s plastic, it seems very sturdy. Relative to my stainless steel digital caliper, this plastic digital caliper has the advantages of being lightweight and not scratching the items being measured. It also has the advantage of being far lower cost! This HnoaTovy caliper comes with a (LR44) battery installed so you simply have to turn it on, select your desired measurement unit of either inches-decimal (to hundredths) or millimeters (to tenths). As can be seen in the attached photo, I verified accuracy against my expensive stainless steel caliper. The readings match. I also verified the reproducibility by measuring the same battery 10 times. Each reading was identical. It can be zeroed by tapping the “zero” button, and it holds zero very well. I ran it out and back to zero 10 times and it was exactly 0 each time. If it’s zeroed at some intermediate length, it can measure positive and negative (“-“) lengths. It has auto-shutoff, which is nice. It doesn’t come with a case, but it can be slid back into it's plastic package. I’m very, very happy with this digital caliper and I think it’s a fantastic value ($4.59 as of this review) so 5-stars. ... show more
