    • Accurate measurements, but be aware of protruding plastic piece and recess in jaw
High accuracy: It took me a second to pull out that tab so the battery would function, but once I had it zeroed out and calibrated, I performed a couple simple tests. I measured 2 inches on my tape measure and then changed it to 5 inches to test shorter and longer distances and they both were dead-on, so this measures very accurately which is the most important quality in my opinion. Narrow piece of plastic: Other important factors to consider is that as you open the jaws of the caliper, the rail goes up as the jaws widen, but there's a narrow strip of plastic that protrudes from the center of the sliding ruler that is fairly narrow of a static size. It's pretty thin and liable to snap eventually if you're not careful. Slightly wider near the ruler: It's worth noting that using the ruler may seem a little off at first and this is just because the distance between the jaws is slightly wider near the ruler, than the edges near the points of the jaws. The means that if you're using the ruler measurements, it will seem a little off right near the ruler itself, but it's actually accurate on the edges furthest from the ruler. ... show more

The headline is the review. I have two high-end SS large digital calipers, but they are too clunky and unnecessary for a lot of what I do. Over the years, I have purchased numerous six and eight inch plastic digital calipers. A few drifted too much and were nearly useless. They all had sketchy battery compartments and most problems stemmed from that. This caliper has a robust (if a bit thick) battery compartment with a burly (screw secured) lid. As for drift, I could not make it do any. ANY. I zeroed it, and cycled it back and forth irregularly for long periods. Each time it returned to exact zero, and repeatably miked things to two digits. Awesome. I see they make a metal one that is 8-inches, but I like this one and hope they make an 8" in plastic in the future. A+++ all day. ... show more

    • Decent Quality, Inexpensive, Accurate Digital Caliper
I was looking for a decent inexpensive caliper and came across this. Very accurate, and has a nice plastic case to go along with it. Battery is also very easy to replace if it goes out as well. For the price it is a pretty solid caliper. Don't think you could get much better then this for the price.

When I order this, I didn't realize that it was made out of plastic and not metal. That being said it works surprisingly well for woodworking and for some of the soft materials, but if you press it on something very hard and try to squeeze it like you would a metal one to make sure you get the exact measurement it does flex and deflect a little bit. The screen is really nice and easy to read and the storage case that it ships with works fairly well. I will definitely like to see a metal version of the same design, but for now this one will do great. ... show more

I use digital calipers all the time for designing models for 3D printing. I got this one from Unipec. It's reasonably priced compared to most of the ones I have used. I comes with a decent plastic case for storage. I compared its results to another digital caliper and they measured the same. This is lightweight and glides well. It works great, good price. Metric or SAE. I bought a similar caliper a couple of years ago and have used it extensively inside the house. This one will stay in the garage so I can use it on automotive applications and similar projects. This micrometer/calipers seems to function well down to a tenth of a mm. The protective case doesn't not prevent the power button from being pressed, and even seems to invite being pressed while trying to close. The listing (at time of writing this review) states a spare battery is included along with the one installed, but non came with the package. The display is similar to that of an old solar calculator with 8 segments characters. It can be somewhat difficult to see in certain lighting conditions. However at this price it is definitely a good value for what you get. If you are looking for super precision you'd likely not be getting a plastic version at this price point anyway. ... show more
