Do not hand-hold the router in an upside-down or horizontal position From the Manufacturer Powered by an 11 amp motor, this fixed base router features the micro-fine depth adjustment ring which provides precise, quick depth adjustments in 1/64-inch increments and constant switch and cordset location. An adjustable, tool-free motor cam lock and quick release motor latches provide easy depth change, quick motor pack removal and solid base locking. Precision-machined die-cast aluminum base; nickel-plated, die-cast aluminum motor housing; detachable cordset; dust-sealed switch; and a clear, Lexan sub-base provide enhanced durability. Rubber overmolded handles and low center of gravity design provide best-in-class comfort, balance, and control. Part of an interchangeable router system of two motor packs and three bases: fixed, plunge, and D-Handle. Includes 1/2-inch and 1/4-inch one-piece, self-releasing collets, two wrenches, and a concentricity gauge to ensure bit to sub-base centering.

I bought a slab-flattening jig and went to install one of my two routers. Neither lined up with the holes in the mounting plate. I know I'm a little eccentric, but I like to have multiple tools for specific jobs, so I wasn't happy about taking my router off of my router table to use with the flattening jig. I was also not happy about using my smaller router I use for making edges on smaller projects. So, I didn't adapt the mounting plate to install either of those routers. I bought a new one. This DeWalt was just-the-ticket to meet my needs. It mounted directly to the mounting plate. It has both, 1/4 inch and 1/2-inch collets so I can use any of my router bits. I have a couple different sizes of flattening bits with different shank sizes. Height adjustment is easy to use. The power switch is good. Great router but doesn't have variable speed. 1/4" and 1/2" collet. Removable power cord. My old Dewalt router failed after 30 years. (Actually I broke it.)

This is my 4th Dewalt router from this series. All of them work beyond my needs and I have no complaints. Why so many? I have one base attached to a table top router. I have a fixed base attached to a custom made router sled that I use to make tapered legs for my modern pet furniture. I have a plunge router base that I only use for certain aspects of my pet furniture and I have a fixed base that is available for other projects. All in all, I have 3 motors and 4 bases. If you are not familiar with this interchangeable series from DeWalt, you should seriously consider it. I am not a serious wood worker even though I make furniture and I couldn't imagine doing what I do with out this type of system. Since I have some bases permanently fixed to a number of jigs, I can simply add the motor when I want to use a particular base. So easy to use and really a great value. ... show more

I am a home woodworker who used to work in a custom woodshop. Our favored brand was Delta (later Porter Cable) and my home router was one of these smaller PC models. Worked well for many years and small enough to fit into one hand. That model recently quit working and is no longer made. Other more recent PC tools have been poorly made and seem designed for the home market and not nearly as robust as before. Hence, this DeWalt router was the closest model I could find. VERY happy with it. It's a bit bigger and not able to fit in one hand, but still small enough to handle easily. The depth adjustment is far better design than the PC model giving much better control to small adjustments. Plenty of power to handle 1/4" or 1/2" shank bits and totally pleased after one month of use. ... show more

Great router! I wanted a second router so I could leave one set up for dovetails. This Dewalt router fits the bill. We actually use the same router at work (I work in a cabinet shop) for the same purpose. You can't go wrong with this router!
