  • Been using it for 3 years and still love it.
I am a long-term cordless tool convert. I had decided to go cordless to get the extra safety of the tools. You can't accidentally trip over a power cord or accidentally cut through a cord if there isn't one. I converted to DEWALT cordless after the brand I owned stalled out driving a lag bolt into a pressure-treated 4x4, despite having a full battery. It wouldn't turn the bolt at all. I made a big box store run and bought a DEWALT cordless drill with a fast charger and 5Ah battery. When I tried that same bolt again, the DEWALT drove the bolt straight into the post without any hesitation. Since that day, every tool or battery I've purchased has been DEWALT cordless. As a DEWALT convert, when I saw the new 60V Flexvolt system, I just had to try it out. Then, I saw this sliding compound miter saw. So, I bought it. That was 3 years ago. I expected this saw to offer the same jaw-dropping experience I had with that first DEWALT drill I bought. I wasn't disappointed. This machine is a beast. It's more powerful than any saw I've ever used. Plus, out of the box it was already fairly accurate. Still, I used a couple of precision squares to align the blade vertically perpendicular to the cutting surface and also align the slide to be perpendicular to the fence at zero. I carefully adjusted the pointers on the angle gauges and verified repeated cuts to be perfectly accurate. I recommend doing those slight tweaks when you first get it. You will fall in love when you see a series of cuts line up perfectly after watching while the saw effortlessly cuts your favorite hardwood. When I bought this saw, I also bought the power cord, just in case this saw wasn't powerful enough on batteries. After using the saw for a couple of days, I put the power cord in a storage cabinet and forgot about it. Even though the batteries seemed to last for many hours of cutting, I sprung for a pair of 9Ah batteries. Then, when I saw the 12Ah batteries, I bought a pair of those specifically to use with this saw. I have never run those below 40% after cutting for a couple of days. I didn't need to buy a second set. I just pop those two on the chargers at the end of the day. Granted, this saw would get used and abused more at a job site. There, the 12Ah batteries might be the only way to run 8-12 hours of non-stop cutting. For the rest of us, those batteries may last days before needing a charge. While I see a lot of folks saying they're using this on job sites with great success, I personally think a saw that cuts this clean and accurately is more suited to furniture making or other precision decorative millwork. Yeah, it will cut 2x4s all day long, but hardwoods like Bubinga are where the power of this saw really shines. One last thing. I know there is a DEWALT rolling stand matched for this saw, but in my opinion, it isn't the best one out there. It has no added functionality beyond being able to roll the saw around. There is a Bora stand that has extension wings that fold up from the sides. It also has a top that flips upside down to stash the saw inside the cart. Plus, when the saw is folded inside, you can still fold out the wings and use the full width as another work surface in your shop. When I replace my old Porter Cable stand, the Bora is what I want. The only drawback I can think of is the fact that it needs extra space for the sliding mechanism. So, you can't push the back of the saw up against the wall and be able to use it. It needs space behind the saw. I keep mine mounted on an old Porter-Cable cart which I simply roll to where I want to do the cuts. If you found any of this helpful, let me know by clicking "Helpful" below. Thanks! ... show more

  • A MUST FOR CROWN
Man, what a beast. This thing is bigger than I'd imagined from the photos, but it should be twice that size with all the features Dewalt has packed into it. The lock out on the right side tilt and the physical, positive stops on the bevels are simplistic genius. The cutline system saves so much time double checking and repositioning, and the 60° miter capacity and Smooth fence adjustments are worth every penny. Feels like Dewalt designed this specifically to address complicated crown molding cuts and heavy framing alike. The double charger is a bit slower than my yellow fast chargers, but that's what the make the yellow multi chargers for, and it gets the job done. Even has a cord clip and a security strap/ port plug for the A/C adapter. A+ Dewalt. ... show more

  • A solid buy
This is a great piece of kit. 20 years ago I bought a DW708 (12" sliding double bevel). It's worked hard and seen much abuse but it will not die. However there are some components on it which are now failing, mainly the safety mechanism. So I figured I'd retire it and I bit the bullet and got this beauty. A few weeks in now and it's definitely worth the cost to me. It's actually an extremely good deal if you consider I paid more for my first one 20 years ago and this model is so much more capable. Batteries have lasted all day every day I've used it so far. It's extremely accurate and the blade shadow is brilliant. The cut is actually a hair wider than the shadow but you get the hang of it pretty quickly. It has all the power as the corded version and is by far the best 12 double bevel on the market right now. I've used many other brands and none of them come close. I will update as needed in the future if anything goes wrong or disappoints. But for now, I'm as happy as can be with it and obviously I'd recommend it to any contractor for framing or trim work. ... show more

  • A quick review of the DHS790AT2 Saw
This new DEWALT Flex volt miter saw is awesome. I've used other miter saws before, but this one is the most accurate. Though it does not have have a laser guide, the led lights a shadow of the blade where the cut is made. The flex volt batteries can be used with other DEWALT 20/60 volt tools. This saw even has fittings to allow crown molding to be cut. I would also recommend to purchase the DEWALT miter stand with this saw. When I purchased this saw through the seller, I received it quickly and in excellent condition. I am pleased with the seller and with this purchase. This saw also comes with an adapter that plugs into an 120 volt outlet in place of using the batteries. No more cords to deal with when taking this saw to a work site. I've made many cuts with this saw so far and the batteries still show full charge. Keep in mind this saw weighs about 80 pounds in shipping. I was surprised to find Fedex can ship a heavy product like this to one's doorstep. Also, there are preset degree increments that the saw locks into when adjusting the angle for the cut. The angle's can also be adjusted freely without the preset locks. ... show more

  • Great saw but didn’t work without cord
I was so stoked when I got this. I am working on a treehouse and bought this to avoid having to use a cord on the platform in tree. It worked wonderfully for one day. Batteries died after about 5 hours of use. Sadly it never worked again after that with the batteries. I was able to get it to run with cord but the purpose is to use batteries. It would just click and light would blink. I gave two stars because while it worked was a great saw. ... show more

  • Best Miter Saw money can buy!
There are many reviews about “why one would but this miter saw vs other DW options @ half the price” some are valid some not IMO but I’ll just say my reasons- I’ve already purchased most of the other 20v/60v power tools and this is also a corded option if/when the 60v is obsolete. This saw is amazing- I’ve got 2 9.0ah flexvolt batteries running it and I’m a casual weekend woodworking at best and have made easily 200 cuts and both batteries are @ 3/3 charged. Obviously it depends on wood/board thickness and kind but I’ll say I’ve used walnut/maple/pine/cedar and stock big box store lumbar. Couldn’t be happier w this miter saw, even at the price point. ... show more
