  • This Thing Rocks
I had to replace a pressure tank for our house's well water supply after the old one blew water everywhere spectacularly. I had assisted (or more accurately watched) our plumber friend install the original system using pex-a/uponor tubing and a battery powered pex expander. In my deluded mind, I judged the job of replacing approximately 4 feet of 1" pex tubing with 6 joints and reusing a metal shut off valve as easily accomplished using a manual expander tool... In case you are wondering if I had actually tried the manual spreader prior to my emergent project, I had, but with one small difference. I had connected 1/2" and 3/4" pex tubing joints in a controlled setting NOT in a wet environment and where I was forced to spread the connectors in awkward angles and positions. I quickly learned the folly of my deluded confidence after making several less than optimal connections which revealed through both slow and fast leaks, my utter lack of good judgement. My house went without water for the next 2 days while I waited for my Dewalt power pex-a spreader to arrive. Finally, after watching using the online tracker, my delivery driver take an extended lunch nearby then leisurely bounce around the neighborhood a mile or two away, the supply-chain gods smiled upon me and I had my new tool in hand. From that point, the longest part of my project was waiting for the battery pack to fully charge. I popped the second battery onto the charger just in case, but the first one did the trick solo. The design of the tool was perfectly suited to the confined and cramped space I was forced to work in. But, the best part was the raw power that this expander has, which (as I now understand) one needs when using 1" pex-a tubing to plumb a project. I looked at the reviews for both this unit and the Milwaukee M12 version, which was comparably priced but described as a bit underpowered for continuous 1" connection expansions and didn't really want to spend 2x the price for the more powerful Milwaukee M18 tool. I think I (finally) made a good decision and I'm finally in a leak-free house with good water pressure and flowing faucets once again. TLDR: While expensive, this unit is definitely worth it if you are plumbing a big project or expanding multiple 1" connection joints ... show more

  • Works as expected
Works as expected PROS: Came with carry case, battery charger, 2 spare batteries and the 1/2", 3/4", 1" attachments. CONS: If you are not a plumber, you really don't use this often. Its a bit expensive for single use but not available to rent anywhere. Overall, if you plan to use it frequently then its a good purchase. but I can't image anyone except a plumber using it frequently. ... show more

  • Must have
Works great. A must have if working with pex A 1inch pipe. Tried a good quality manual tool first and stopped project and ordered the Dewalt. Much easier, faster, and less labor intensive.

  • So easy.
PEX-A is so easy to DIY to replace existing plumbing. I haven’t had a single connection even think about leaking. Ensure you cut the pipe flush put the ring on all the way and then hold it still as this tool auto-rotates. It’s a bit heavy, but feels very well built. Clips onto my belt like other utility tools. Came with 2 batteries and they seem to last a long time. The chargers are the new style though and not as mountable as the old ones. Feels like it is very consistent until the battery starts getting low - but it doesn’t consume much power. 100+ connections for the first full charge. If you have more than a few connections to do, get this tool, it’ll be a life saver. ... show more

  • Game Changer, Just a Fantastic Tool
I actually enjoy plumbing with this. Cheaper than the Milwaukee, works pretty much the same. And for anyone not familiar, three really big advantages to Expansion PEX (aka Wirsbo, PEX-A, Pro-PEX, etc.): 1) Unlike crimp/clamp PEX where the fittings are smaller inside diameter (ID) than the tubing, the fittings are the same size ID as the tubing, so no reduced flow rate. To give an idea, for 1/2" PEX, the reduction between crimp/clamp and expansion PEX is 30-50%, for 3/4" it's closer to 20-30%. So pretty significant. 2) This tool fits in tighter spots than the handles on crimp/clamp tools. Not a big deal....until it's a REALLY big deal in tight quarters. 3) Easier on your hands/forearms if you're doing it all day Bonus) The built in light comes in really handy when when you're working in less than optimal lighting situations. Total game changer for me, highly recommend. ... show more
