  • Great compact power all day
Style: NEW - 20V MAX XR Impact Driver Kit
I generally buy Milwaukee or Dewalt system tools because they are available locally and they both have systems that are uniformly excellent and well supported. Along with my miter saw, I use my drill driver and my impact driver most out of all my cordless tools. I recently started upgrading my cordless tools from 18v to 20v and went with Dewalt because most of my old tools were Dewalt. My old tools still get work done and I could use 20v adapters on my old Dewalt 18v tools to extend the time to replace those, so I stayed with Dewalt. The first purchase was the 791 drill driver, which I immediately loved for it's ergonomics, small form factor, light weight and long run time on a 2Ah battery. After that experience, the impact driver was the next logical thing to replace. I had an upcoming deck replacement, so I bought this little 787 with the 4Ah batteries. There's really no fun way, outside of fire, to remove old deck boards that had been screwed down decades ago. You can muscle them off, cut them off, disassemble them or a combination of all three. I elected to disassemble them, to later avoid hitting cut screw shanks or tearout voids with the new Trex connectors that were going in. This little guy had to work hard to unwind close to 1500 rusty screws on a 600 square foot deck. The result? Awesome. This thing unzipped screws all day before needing a charge. Some of those screws it had to hammer at for 10-15 seconds to get them to break loose, so this was no cake walk. The LED light was awesome for finding sunken screw heads as daylight waned and the belt hook was great for hanging the impact on my belt as I moved around. When reconstructing portions of the framing of this deck, I had to run a series of lags and even at the end of the day, this thing zipped them in like it would break them off before it ran out of torque. One thing to note is the move to brushless motors. Brushless motors are noticeably more efficient and if you are on the fence about replacing perfectly good older tools, this feature alone may make it worth the switch. I really notice the effect of the brushless motors most on the bigger tools, like the reciprocating and circular saws. My older tools run down even the bigger 20v batteries much faster than the new brushless version of the tools. To sum it up, this is a very impressive little impact driver in a kit that gets you two 4Ah batteries to boot. It's a solid buy. I love it. The Milwaukee M18 Fuel driver looks to be every bit as good, so I think it boils down to if you're already red, go red, and if you're already yellow, go yellow. The 787 won't disappoint. ... show more

  • Great for driving 4 inch lag screws, soft enough to drive 1/2 inch cabinet screws all week long
Style: NEW - 20V MAX XR Impact Driver Kit
Strongest drill I have ever used. I was looking to replace my ryobi drill of 10 years. I was hesitant on going from an "adjustable chuck" for my drill bits to a "non adjustable" chuck that is fixed at 1/4 inch. Since most of my household uses will be for driving screws this impact feature will outweigh the need to for drilling. I can use the old ryobi for the rare drilling of holes. This drill handles great. First of all i love the ability to carry the drill on my belt as this has a built in clip that connects by sliding over my belt. I do not have to buy a holster that I have snap open and close in order to access my drill. I can quickly use one motion to put my drill onto my belt and off my belt. I do like the accessory that has to purchased separately to carry an extra bit. My favorite part of this drill is that you don't feel the torque on your wrist, elbow and shoulders with driving in 3.5 lag bolts as I felt on my old ryobi. I know that is not a fare comparison from this drill compared to a 10 year old ryobi. Keep in mind that the purpose of this is a my review of the dewalt verses a comparison of the ryobi. The impact feature really pushed lag bolts much faster than my ryobi. I would recommend to buy the bit holder. This drill is precision enough to screw in 1/2 inch cabinet door scews without screwing the screw too far into the wood. I like the 4.0ah battery much better than the 2.0 because it last so much longer. I think that is good enough trade off of increased weight.I have had this drill going all week without putting back onto the charger. I also like the one handed bit removal feature. Thisis very nice feature when my hands are greasy and I can change the bit without holding onto the body of the drill. I can pull the chuck with the fingertips of my 1-3 fingers and then pull to remove the drill bit verses using my right hand to hold the body of the drill and pulling out or on my ryobi holding the drill chuck and then squeeze the trigger to loosen and remove the chuck or holding the chuck and to tighten the drill bit. I also like the hard case in which I can throw in my trunk without fear of getting banged around. ... show more
