  • Great vac!
Style: Wet/Dry Vac Only
This thing is awesome. I would say it's slightly less powerful than a corded shop vac, but way more convenient. The only thing this hasn't been able to consistently pick up is small nails. When it does they sometimes get stuck sideways in the hose so I probably shouldn't vacuum them anyway. I was a little leery about the smaller size but it hasn't been an issue at all. My only beef with it is my beef with all wet/dry vacs, the filters get full of saw dust or whatever particulate matter is floating around and then you lose suction. This is where the vac being small comes in handy. My old corded shop vac never got more than 1/4 or so full before the filter clogged up. There was no point in taking it apart to clean the filter and then not emptying the thing, so the extra space didn't really matter. Depending on how much dust is around this thing gets 1/2 to 2/3 full before the filter needs to be cleared out. So the size is just right. Being able to carry it around without a cord is huge though. I use it on my car and around whatever job I'm working on. I can easily carry it around with one hand and it makes light work out of cleaning up. I wouldn't mind having a longer hose or a few other attachments for it, but I'm overall very pleased and would recommend in a heartbeat. I'm using a 60v 6ah flexvolt battery, but the battery life has also been very good from my experience. I also appreciate that it has a cord too. I have a few batteries so I only needed the cord the first day I got it before my batteries arrived. But I'm glad that in many years when dewalt changes up their batteries this will still be a useful tool. ... show more

  • This Works Great
Style: Wet/Dry Vac Only
This is the best battery vacuum I have ever seen or used. This is as powerful as my Mini-Shop Vac. As an added benefit if your battery charge drops you can plug it in. Whether on Battery or AC Power the vac seems to have the same function. I have been running mine on the same 4.0 Amp/Hr battery since I got it; I've used it for probably 15-20 Minutes and still have 3 Bars on the Battery. ** UPDATE ** I have used this vacuum for a few months now and it is still running great. The filter is simply rinsed under running water to clean it; I've sucked up all kinds of things including drywall dust and saw dust from my Dewalt sander and the quick emty and cleaning is great. The suction of this vacuum is astonishing especially given that it runs on 20V. I get well over 30 Minutes of solid vacuuming with a 3 Amp/Hr battery. While the power is not real increased by using a 120V outlet it does help with battery usage; though with over 2 dozen batteries that doesn't effect me too much. This vacuum is just so convenient because of the effectiveness and battery power. It is great being able to quickly clean up a job site that doesn't have power. I'm nearly elusively running Dewalt Max battery tools now; except for the occasional job my plug in tools are relegated to the garage and because of this vacuum that includes my Shop-Vac. Add (04/24/2016): I have added the 20 Volt Max sliding compound miter saw to my collection and while this vacuumed isn't a perfect fit a wrap or two with electrical tape makes it one. Added to the saw, to replace its horrible dust collection bag, the combination makes an almost dust free saw. Both work on batteries and allow me to bring the saw right into finished living spaces to cut. Saves time running outside and doesn't add too much bulk. I have tried the vacuum in wet mode without the filter and this thing sucks, fast, it will fill up its just over a gallon tank within 20-30 seconds. And the float ball stops the suction before too much water gets in. My only real CON with the vacuum is the worthless flat car attachment, it just hasn't worked for me. As a side note in recently redoing my kitchen pairing this vacuum with my Dewalt Palm sander made sanding the drywall another dust free job. ... show more

  • The ability to carry it around when you need a quick cleanup is important
Style: Wet/Dry Vac Only
Is this as powerful as the big shop vac in my shop? Well, not remotely so. But being able to run on a battery is a huge plus. If I want to clean out the inside of my car or boat, this is the perfect tool. And being able to use it as a blower can sometimes be nice too. It is easy to drop the tank to empty it, though if it was full of water, be careful. Finally, it was pretty quiet. From 3 feet away, I measured 66-73 Db, depending on where I was standing, around 70 on average. Looking directly at the blower port might be the highest volume, but that would be expected. Finally, I did listen to the volume when run on the cord versus a battery. It seemed to be slightly more throaty on the cord, but not by a lot. I could probably rig up a way to compare the two power choices. ... show more

  • Good; not as good as previous model
Style: Wet/Dry Vac Only
I waited awhile to post this review to see how this vacuum performed for a month or so. I have the older DC500 model, and was always very pleased with it. It worked well, was quieter than most similar products, and lasted for years with a lot of use. Finally, it started hesitating to start, and when I took it apart, I could find no problem, and the motor seemed clean and the shaft moved freely, so, while I still suspect a motor problem, I decided to get a new machine instead of springing for a new motor (still available, however) for the old vacuum; especially since I wasn't even sure that that was the problem. The new model is a little different, and I'm not impressed with the changes. It is still quieter than most, and works effectively. I leave it plugged in in my workshop most of the time, and use it enough to have to empty it about once a week. I do not use it on battery power, so I have no comment about that feature. I give this vacuum four stars mostly on the basis of it's effectiveness and my expectation of longevity, but otherwise I would rank it lower for the following reasons. Unlike the old model DC500, there is no cover for the battery plug-in area, leaving the contacts much more likely to pick up dust and grit in the shop. As I said, I don't use that feature much, but I do have other DeWalt tools with compatible batteries, so I wouldn't want to find myself wanting to use it on batteries and find it gunked up. I duct taped a Ziploc bag hanging over the battery contact area--a solution I think will achieve the desired effect; although unsightly. Another issue, albeit a minor issue, is that unlike the earlier model, there is no drainage port in the base. I wouldn't remove any stars because of that, but it bears mentioning if a potential user doesn't have the muscle to lift up a vac base full of water and turn it over to empty it. I haven't actually done a comparison test on this, but it APPEARS that the new model would hold less in its base than the older model. In any case, the filter is definitely smaller than before, so if a user happened to have an extra filter or two on hand for the older model, they will not fit the new model. Most annoying of all of my quibbles is the hose. The hose on my old machine is still good, but the fit is not the same, so my old hose cannot be used on the new machine. Besides that--and this may just be my particular unit rather than all of them--the hose on the new unit fights removal and requires considerably more effort to remove when I want to switch from vacuum mode to blowing mode. It is somewhat more cooperative when It's time to remove it from the blowing port. Lastly, and also having to do with the hose, the rigid attachment at the hose end that receives the various extensions and other attachments came off in my hand while using it to vacuum up some sawdust on my workbench one day! I tried to kind of screw it back onto the corrugated hose, but that was insufficient and I ended up with the duct tape again; this time to secure the hose end onto the body of the hose. This never happened with years of use on the older model. I'm still giving four stars--at least on an interim basis--because of effectiveness, relative quietness, and EXPECTED longevity. It does bother me, however, that this vacuum has these issues that it's predecessor did not. ... show more

  • It SUCKS, But In A Good Way! Great Portable Vacuum. (UPDATE)
Style: Wet/Dry Vac Only
I just recently took on a job driving a school bus and if you are a school bus driver, you understand how much of a pain in the you know what it is to sweep in between the seats to get the dirt out and all other kinds of things that children drop on the floor of the bus. I bought this vacuum because I have already invested into the DeWalt 20V Max tool line and have a few of those batteries around to run my tools plus I needed a vacuum that would be much stronger than your usual big box brand store type dust buster. This vacuum does fit the bill and does the job nicely. It has strong suction for a battery powered vacuum which supprised me, even to the point where it is almost as strong as my 5 gal shop vac that I have in my work shop. It comes with on board tools that you would most commonly use on a shop vac and this vac with the cord option weighs in at just over 9 pounds. The only cons that I am finding with this vacuum which are not many... - It does not come with any extension wands to allow you to reach into that hard to reach areas like what a school bus would have but you can get generic extensions at your local Lowes or Home Depot. - On a 5Ah 20v Max battery, it will run about 20 minutes only. BUT will run off a 120V power inverter that is capable of supplying over 300W. (If you have the corded option with this vacuum) - Lastly, This vacuum from what I have researched is not packaged with a battery and a charger if you want to use it in the battery mode. It will require you to purchase a battery and a charger seperatly wich can be an additional $150.00 or more, depending on the size battery you get. I have this vacuum now for some time and it continues to work flawlessly! I have purchased the 60V Flex Volt Batteries to use on not only this vacuum even though it will only draw 20V. BUT IT IS 20V at 9Ah, but other DeWalt tools that I have and this vac will run for a VERY LONG TIME before needing to charge the battery. I am finding that when I need to do small vacuum jobs around my house, I pass up my dust buster that I have and use this vacuum. ... show more

  • Works well
Style: Wet/Dry Vac Only
I’m very happy with this vacuum. I’ve used it a few times now and it works great for locations that AC power isn’t available. Good suction and it’s fairly easy to clean out the filter too

  • Very Impressive Vacuum
Style: Wet/Dry Vac Only
The Pros; I must say that I am very pleased with my purchase, it is very sturdy and well designed and having a cordless along with a cord is very useful in some situations, I found that it seals well and the attachments are readily accessible and well stored to where they won’t fall out, the 5 ft hose is flexible and extends well enough to keep you working and easily stores away and stays put. Would I recommend this to a relative or friend? Yes I would. Is it worth the price I paid? Yes I is. Is it practical for everyday use? Yes it is. Now the Cons; It’s not the lightest and not too terribly heavy either but I could see where it would get to you on a prolonged period of use. It did not come with a foam cap for the wet suction vacuuming, you need to buy that separately, overall a great purchase for the price ... show more
