  • Thrilled that I've finally moved up the ladder.
I ordered this DeWalt kit to replace a menagerie of corded and cordless tools of various brands acquired over many years. My collection ranges from Craftsman, Black and Decker, Makita, and Dremel to Harbor Freight... along with a mix of batteries. So, it was time to finally consolidate and upgrade to DeWalt quality. The combo kit was packaged with all of the tools, accessories, and product documentation as advertised. I checked each of the tools to verify that they matched the detail tool descriptions - which they did. After that I charged the battery and power tested each tool to make sure they were in working order - which they were. Rather than repeating the details of each tool that you can read in the product documentation and other reviews, I will highlight what I've found so far that stand out the most to me. So far, I've tested the impact driver, the drill and reciprocating saw so I can't yet comment on the performance of the remaining tools. 1) If I were going to make a change to the tools in the kit, I would include a 4 1/2-inch angle grinder. I have a corded angle grinder but will probably buy a DeWalt cordless. An angle grinder is a must have. 2) Nowadays, almost all tools have LED lights, hard rubber hand grip areas, safety settings and insulation, etc., but it's still a good reason to upgrade if your old tools don't have these features because they really make a difference. 3) DeWalt's quality is evident in the construction and material for each of the tools. One stand-out example is the sturdiness of the circular saw's shoe/base plate. It's far superior to my old Black and Decker 7 1/4-inch saw with a stamped steel shoe. 4) The variable speed handle setting and different blade position settings on the reciprocating saw are especially nice features. 5) The weight to power ratio for the tools was a pleasant surprise to me. I'm used to larger size motors, in particular the drill and impact driver motors which delivered plenty of power when I tested them. The DeWalt 1/2-inch drill motor was significantly smaller than my old 3/8-inch drill yet was just as powerful. 6) Overall quality and performance - I only have one tool in the same category ad DeWalt and it's an 18-volt high end Makita impact driver that I really like. I tested both tools on 3-inch hex head wood screws and 1/2-inch steel bolts. Both drivers performed equally well with plenty of torque, and the torque settings on each tool were easy to set. 7) Value - Compared to what I've seen online for Makita kits, the DeWalt kit is priced lower and represents a better value for comparable performance. 8) Rating - I rate the kit as 5-stars without any reservations. I liked everything about it. I'll add additional comments as I get to experience more from each of the tools. Bottom line is that I'm thrilled that I've finally moved up the ladder to DeWalt. ... show more

  • This is a fantastic set of quality tools!
This DeWalt Combo kit is fantastic! I have been using Ryobi for the last 25 years. I have 20-25 tools from them and a large number of their batteries. I was hesitant to change platforms over to DeWalt but I’m so glad I did. The Ryobi tools are fine but after a two year home renovation project I’ve burned out two circular saws and two reciprocating saws. I have a friend who is a die hard DeWALT fan and raves about the quality of the tools and how long they last. I have to say, now that I have my own set, he’s right. These tools feel more solid then the ones I’ve been using. The batteries are smaller and lighter than my old tools and I like the slide in attachment method, the batteries are easier to swap out. This combo kit comes with a circular saw, drill, multitool, driver, jig saw, orbital sander, reciprocating saw, battery and charger. It’s a good selection and less expensive than buying the tools independently. Circular Saw (DCS391) - The saw and battery combo are much lighter than I used to but it has a lot of power. My old tool struggled to cut through a 2X4, this saw handled the 2X4 with ease and cutting through ¾ plywood was a pleasure. The blade guard on my old saw was always catching, causing damage to the work. This blade guard went up smoothly, I did not even notice until my cut was done. The saw has a blade lock so taking off and replacing the blade is very easy. It’s easy to adjust the cut depth and to set up the saw to cut a bevel. Drill (DCD777) - Again the drill and battery combo is light weight. The drill has two speeds and 15 torque settings. I’ve used it with small diameter bits, large diameter bits, and countersink bits. The drill function is smooth and effortless. The model in the kit is not a hammer drill but I did use it with a small diameter masonry bit and it was powerful enough to drill holes in a cider block wall. The integrated work light is a nice feature. Driver (DCF787) - Light weight and powerful, this driver is smaller than my old tool making it easier to use in tight spaces. The trigger controls the variable speed of the driver and I found controlling the speed to be precise and easy to control. The integrated work light is a plus. Jig Saw (DSC334) - I had given up on battery powered jig saws. I used a couple and they were always underpowered and inaccurate. This DeWalt saw changed my mind. It’s powerful and precise both with straight cuts and serpentine cuts. Changing blades is easy and the DeWalt method secures the blade better than even my plug powered jig saw. The cut, even in thick material, was 180 degrees, no blade deflection. It comes with a plastic shoe that fits the base to keep the saw from marring the work. Again a nice work light. Multitool (DCS356) - I really liked the method DeWalt uses for installing blades. Rather than having to unscrew the center shaft, you just push down on the clamping lever, remove/replace the blade. It makes changing blades quick and easy. You still have the option of using the center shaft method. The multitool is powerful with minimal vibration. Also a work light. Orbital Sander (DCW210 - I was very surprised with the small size of this sander. It fits my hand much better than the sanders I’ve been using. It might be small but it is quite powerful. Using a 40 grit sand paper I was able to quickly remove some pretty deep flaws in my work piece. The sander is powerful but it’s also precise. It offers 7 speeds making using finer grit sandpaper easy with a delicate touch on the work surface. I also like the locking dust collector on the sander, my job was pretty much dust free. Reciprocating Saw (DCS387) - This is the one tool that was heavier than the old tools I had been using but that is a positive. As I mentioned, I burned out two of my old brands saws on my current project. The DeWalt saw is more rugged and more powerful than the saws I had been using. I’ve used it to cut through wood, steel, and large diameter branches and it did so with ease. This thing is a beast. I am thrilled with all the tools in this kit. The DeWALT products are a little more expensive but now that I’ve used them I believe they are worth the premium. I just wish I had ordered them sooner. ... show more
