  • Beautiful layering and colors
Size: 72 Count (Pack of 1) Style: Metal Tin
These are very expensive pencils and for the most part they are worth the cost. However they are expensive enough I wouldn’t necessarily recommend them for beginners or for gifting. As far as the lightfastness of the product I haven’t had them long enough to know from personal experience. They layer beautifully and there are some beautiful colors. You’d have more options with the bigger set. The cost may keep some people from doing that, as it did me. I am happy with my purchase but am a little sad I didn’t splurge for the larger set because of the color range. Layering can help with some of that. No regrets on my purchase. Sadly however the tin was bent when I got them and it will not stay closed. I reached out to Amazon and they gladly sent me a replacement. The replacement was so damaged and bent it messed up a couple of pencils. Long story short I still ended up with a dented tin that doesn’t close. I have to keep it taped. Either way, great pencil set. ... show more

  • Nice professional pencils
Size: 72 Count (Pack of 1) Style: Metal Tin
These pencils do not lay down in a soft manner and are not bendable like Prismacolor. However, they will teach you to lightly build your layers and blend by melding the two together. They hold a sharp point. For beginners just starting out, one can use a solvent to get the pencil to break down and go into the paper and not seeing the white spots left nor where the two colors meet. People use solvents even with one color because most of the color sits on top of the paper to which some use a blending, colorless pencil, or a solvent, or when done, one uses a white color pencil and press down quite hard which does wear on your thumb. ... show more

  • One of the Best Colored Pencils I've Used.
Size: 72 Count (Pack of 1) Style: Metal Tin
I've tried and used several different brands of colored pencils, including Prismacolor, Faber Castells and Caran d'Ache. I find the Procolour to be better then any I've tried. At least for me. I have the 72 set and they came from Amazon global. It took less then a week to arrive. And the pencils were perfect. The color palette is great. Good color choices and it gives you what you need. The pencils sharpen well and the leads seem strong. The Procolour feels firm enough for detail and control and yet they glide and lay down beautifully. Not scratchy at all. They have a soft feel but, not smushy. It's not as soft as Colorsoft. More like Polychromos with a control and firmness of Derwent Artist. A perfect blend of firm and soft. They remind me of my favorite drawing pencils, Palomino Black Wing #602. The pencils glide across when laying down color. And the colors are vivid. Blending is a dream with a blend or solvent. I painting the pencil I find a softer pencil then bristle works best. With a softer brush you get the same effect as Polychromos. You can layer quite abit depending on the paper. I used Stonehenge. I would also recommend doing a color chart or playing with the different colors as some colors lay down a color that is not quite the same as the lead. Something I find standard with Derwents of all lines. I absolutely love the feel of the pencils and the colors. I love the colors in this line. Derwent really did an amazing job of bringing a firm and soft blend in this pencil and they have been a joy to use ... show more

  • Wut wuh Debbie downer!
Size: 72 Count (Pack of 1) Style: Metal Tin
I have determined that both derwent and caran d’ache best pencils are neck and neck as my favorites. Unfortunately this procolour line are lower grade pencils that don’t compare to the cream of the crop items that derwent also produces. The set I’m reviewing would be great for an elementary student type level of art. I have hundreds and hundreds of pencils and wanted to try these as well but these are a fail for me. ... show more

  • Meh
Size: 72 Count (Pack of 1) Style: Metal Tin
For the money I was expecting a bit more. I also purchased a larger, less expensive set and they are a bit better with blending, but not as vibrant. Also, the box these came is was severely dented, to the point that it won’t close and I can not put the pencils, with the trays, back in it.

Derwent makes a great product!

  • My Favorite Pencil
Size: 72 Count (Pack of 1) Style: Metal Tin
These pencils are a hybrid: part wax and part oil. They are awesome. You get the best of both worlds. The ease of coverage with wax and the beautiful results of oil. The pencils do not need to be sharpened very often because they hold their points which allows for detail work too. Vivid colors come easily from these pencils. I am a fan of Odorless Mineral Spirits and a Blender Pencil which these work beautifully with. Your pencil work will look like an oil painting. These pencils are in a league all their own. However, if I had to tell you what they feel like to use then I would compare them to the Faber-Castell Polychromos. And they are priced much better than the Polychromos so I bought the 72 pencil set. The colors are beautiful and you get a 4 mm core. Which means you get more pencil for your money. These are now my favorite colored pencil. Derwent has always produced quality products and these pencils prove that. I am a fan of Derwent products! ... show more

  • -1 for permenence
Size: 72 Count (Pack of 1) Style: Metal Tin
As a color pencil fanatic, I looked forward to trying these, and they do not disappoint. To my taste, the selection of hues is very well balanced, though maybe they could have omitted a green for a deeper red, like an alizarin crimson. As far as to application, they feel similar to Luminance or Polychromos, smooth and creamy. I'm uncertain just how many layers they can handle, but I have thus far applied 5 to a test drawing on cheap paper with excellent results. I would give them 5*s, but only about half are above average lightfastness. And why does every Derwent tin I order come with a dent? Totally unrelated, whatever brand I use, I put a small lamp just above them, warming them slightly. This minimizes breakage with even my notoriously bratty Prismacolors. ... show more
